During the 2020 pandemic, President Akuffo Addo addressed the nation and described some of the restrictions that were going to be inforced as part of the lockdown. I fell off my chair when he stated that waakye sellers were permitted to continue trading. That's when I knew the importance of this dish to the nation. 😂😂😂

Ghanaians my fellow Ghanaian, please, it's about time we make it a point to learn the culture well, and 4:42 seriously,,,it really behooves us to take pride in our culture and traditions that makes us uniique. Every Ghanaian seems to like WAAKYE, which has been established, ok, so, why don't we learn about it? Every age group, from very grown adults all the way down to kids,(whom i cant blame)keep calling this beautiful ingredient, the most important ingredient that gives this food it's uniqueness and different taste and scent, and single handedly separates it from the 'run of the mill, ubiquitous "rice and peas, or rice and beans" from other countries or territories!! Please stop calling it "this leaves, this leaves" it's simply called SORGUM or SORGHUM leaves! It actually has a name and origin of where it comes from. Look it up, it's simple, we have the device in our hands, to help us learn a little something everyday!! My people, please learn about your food and where it comes from and what it's called, for your sake and the sake of these social media streets, the whole world is watching us oooo, I beg! If WAAKYE was just any old rice and peas, it would never become a famous dish to be discussed, and definitely not make Tim sweat like that! Lol! never! It gets that unique and mysterious taste that makes everyone smile and salivate at the first bite, and can also contribute to a whole culinary curriculum class, from the so called- "that leaves" , not necessarily for just the beautiful colour, so give it some respect small wai. Thanks, my people! 😊😊

Thank you for the education🙏🏾🙏🏾 I didn't know it was sorghum leaves. Most people in Europe don't even know of sorghum as a grain. I wonder what it is called in Twi /Ga /Dagbani You should start your own Ghanaian food education podcast, I would definitely subscribe.

@@stadarkua3830 aaww thanks. I'll think about it,,,if only anyone will see it valuable a to to consume because, as a society, we don't take anything seriously and definitely have no value for anything, therefore, curiosity and knowledge about anything has never been our strong care, sadly. It really frustrates me so badly. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.
