This, along with Lilias White’s stunning rendition of Don’t Rain on My Parade should help put to rest those ridiculous arguments that people are disappointed with Beanie Feldstein simply because she doesn’t sound like Barbra, and that’s all that people want. Jessie Mueller completely sounds like herself and sounds wonderful at the same time. Because she has a voice and can really sing it. That’s all that we want, really.
it's been announced!! the show premieres in 2022 with beanie feldstein as fanny, although she's no babs, i think she'd be great. it would be interesting to see jessie in this role tho considering she nailed this!!
This song is so Streisandesque, that even here, in this respectable rendering, I can hear Barbra at times. Funny Girl is an impossible show to revive on Broadway. Except in summer stock.

There was a casting call posted for the revival according to a BroadwayWorld article. There were rumors of both Idina Menzel or Lady Gaga starring, but they're both just speculation. I'm personally hoping for Jessie Mueller (stunning voice, natural actor, skilled with comedy), but I also think Jessica Vosk could be really great (although she isn't a huge name... yet).
You need someone with great presence and a vulnerability. Streisand was raw and not trained like the performers are today. Lupone had it. Ellen Greene has it. The divine miss m had it, though bette Midler doesn’t. It’s the reason this girl, Idena Menzel and Sutton foster just don’t have the stage presence, good as they are. Gaga may have it.
@@mzmiller52 I disagree about Jessie Mueller not having the stage presence, but yeah, Idina wouldn't be a good choice, in my opinion. Mostly because I really can't see her handling the comedic scenes. Streisand could really sell the humor as well as she could handle the dramatic aspects of Fanny, and Idina just isn't that kind of actress.
This woman is GREAT, but sadly will constantly be compared to Barbra Streisand - is it only me, but doesn't she look rather like her too? She would be wonderful as Fanny Brice and I believe that she ought to be given the opportunity.
She's not getting any younger sticking it out all these years in musical theatre. She's come at an inopportune moment for Broadway business, composers, and producers. Hollywood is basically dead for musical performers, and, yes, there are plenty of entertainers who competitively do extremely well what she does. Maybe it's time for Mueller to start a family or something.
🤔 Hollywood performers dream of ending their careers on Broadway or on stage, so I'm not sure why the assumption would ever be that she'd like to or need to do anything other than exactly what she's already doing. 🤫🤐
