Every time I see people losing it over cups, cheap canvas tote bags and whatever the new product is next week it makes me feel like maybe I’m doing better mentally than I give myself credit for
honestly the number of people I speak to who I ask what their hobbies are, what do you do when you get home, what's any passions you have. The high number of folks who have no answer to those questions, look at me confused when I ask about hobbies. I even had someone say to me 'I'm an adult, why would I have a hobby?' 💀 girl what
I kinda disagree. view collecting as overconsumption. I can respect someone with a huge antique collection for eg. but a "virally"-fuelled truly-over-collection. . . . not existing online would never cause a phenomena like this. the overconsumption is of social media, not collecting ~crap~ - someone that overconsumes crap
“Where’s your Stanley going to go now?” 😂. The perfect sentence to encapsulate the kind of person who is going to be obsessed with owning or reselling these ridiculous, practically unusable, - can’t really be classified as a tote - bag.
You have to hold your Stanley so everyone can see it. Otherwise what's the point of having a Stanley? If no one will see it you might as well buy a resonable priced bottle without lead in it.
I feel like these bags would be fun to use for a Trader Joe's snack-goodie bag for friends who don't live near a Trader Joe's. Other than that, I don't really see a proper use for such small totes. I did a snack trade with online friends, and many requested Trader Joe goodies.
That one gagged me because the lead up to “wErE sELLiNg tHeM” made it sound like aw cute they’re at least doing a little giveaway for their followers 💀
This is next level hyper consumerism. Items you need 1 or 2 of in your lifetime have now become a status symbol in a "look what i have the luxury of having multiple off. I don't even use/need them but i have it. I'm a collector"
In this Stanley cups made more sense, because they have lots of colours at least, but these totes comes only in 4 colours. How will these people collect 100s of them without looking ridiculous?
My parents have too many reusable bags for me to even justify buying one, especially a mini version. My parents also have a TJ's cooler bag, which is very large, and a (different brand) tote-bag sized cooler bag. I just can't justify buying another re-usable good when the ones at home are perfect. And yeah, sometimes I just pull up to the store with plastic walmart bags.
Especially since you have to use a tote bag tonnes of times before it is more eco-friendly than a plastic bag ... ya don't need that many unless you do huge shops lol
Quote of the day.."Judgmental watermelon"!!!! 😂😂😂 As someone who works in retail..in a posh supermarket...we've had the Anya Hindmarch bag frenzy...The Lulu Guinness bag frenzy!!! At 7:00am...you could not believe how long the queue was the morning they went onto the shelves!!! INSANITY!!! People calling on the phone...crazy!!! Having to limit them to 2 bags only...People with arm fulls of them turning up at the checkouts only to have them removed...you'd have thought we'd threatened to kill their first born!!!! Heartbreaking!!! 🙄🙄🙄 It was like covid toilet roll all over again!!!! Would I mind a mini tote bag like this? No. Would I want or need one? No!! Wait til next week when the price goes down online and the greedy people cannot give them away!!! xxxxxxx
This comment was a ride 😂 thanks for sharing! I'm sure you and your colleagues must've been sick of it but your friends 100% have the time of their lives listening to your stories!!
I work for an apparel company, we can get these exact blank totes for INSANELY cheap and just have them screen printed or embroidered. Trader Joe's is making a killing
@@leahegeloh8929 trader Joe's is owned by Aldi?!? You learn something new every day. Germany is clearly divided into the territories Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord. The second I stumble upon Aldi Nord I've gone too far
I get excited to go to Trader Joe's when I go to Pittsburgh an hour from my house. It's too far to go just to shop, but if I'm in town to meet with my editor or take my daughter to the zoo I pick up groceries there. They have great gluten free treats.
Totally agree. I love miniature things. But also yes it’s just a bag. If you can get it great but not worth waiting in line or paying more than the normal price
Are people buying them just to use as a purse? Cause it fits basically what fits in my small purse I carry. That closes at the top so nothing falls out.
As a 45 year old woman, consumerism has become BEYOND, and I say this as someone who was so addicted to every Mac collection in the 00's I got myself in major debt.
It's very brave of you to share that with us. ❤️ I have a shopping problem atm and it stresses me out. I need to stop buying stuff but it gives me a short term satisfaction to get something new to try out. After a day or a week I just wonder do I really need all the stuff I bought. 🙄 I'm a student atm so I should save monet but easier said than done...
Oh man, MAC collections used to kill me! I would get up at 3am and sit sleepily refreshing a page to buy some “limited edition” whatever. The Oh Darling highlighter was a big one for me. It took me a minute to realize most stuff isn’t “limited” at all.
" I hate the world so much" 🤣😭 How many times have I said the same thing! You make it a better place though, Robert. Your sense of humour never fails to lift my spirits 😆
I have a Stanley knockoff that's better than Stanley, it's decorated with MUSHROOMS 🍄🍄 enjoy that Amazon knockoff and never have to worry if you drop it :D
Haha, same here! I got my Stanley knock off for £6 on Amazon, easily replaceable if I lose it or damage it! Although it seems to be bombproof as it’s been dropped a few times with no issues. Also the pound shop (British equivalent of a dollar store) I go to does amazing tote bags with all sorts of cool designs on them. I have quite a few to use for carrying shopping, storing stuff at home, etc. 🙂
@@laurathiele9591 I have some vinyl stickers to put on mine but I had to take them off because I’ve been using it for jury duty and figured I’d better look respectable
I need Robert to come out with a shirt of "What would Robert do?" Where was he in my 20's? 90% of my decisions would have been not as dumb if I thought he was judging me
Libraries would be amazing if it weren't for other people. I had to stop going because the men in my area treat it like a singles bar and the constant interruptions when I just want to read books drove me to just buy them instead because they don't pull that crap at the book store. I consider the price of books a convenience fee for being able to browse and read without people trying to talk to me
I worked in Dublin city centre for a long time and all I think when I see these is... A pick pockets dream 😅. Don't be packing all your expensive stuff in a bag with no zip so everything can fall out or be robbed!
The full size totes are readily available at the TJs around me lol. I have two and had no idea they were such a hot commodity. The mini one is cute but never in a million years would I brave those crowds for it. Humans are so freaking weird
Okay i am obsessed with my lip gloss collection, and i literally do not even leave a room without bringing a lip gloss, but 7 lip balms? In a MINI tote? Whyyyyyyy🤣🤣🤣
@annerematt4379 I'm not necessarily mad....just very confused 🤣🤣 when I go out for the day I'll bring 2 so I have an option, usually a regular gloss and a sparkly gloss...but 7 is a bit much🤣
I've only stood in line trying to buy concert tickets. And this was the 80s/90s when a teenager/20something could afford concert tickets on a retail worker's paycheck. Outlets got a stash of tickets to sell and scalpers couldn't just scoop them up like they do with online ticket sales these days. Man I miss those days.
Honestly, December of 2020 when I was stuck home with the VID, my husband’s best friend stood in line for us to get my son a PS5 for Christmas that year. We had a friend that worked at the store and had an inside scoop on when the next shipment was and we were able to get one. Other than that, yeah, I haven’t stood in line to buy anything except for concert tickets way back in the 90’s.
I don't have a mini Trader Joe's bag and I don't want one but I do buy unbranded mini totes as gift bags. I feel like it's nicer than just a paper gift bag and you can customize them with someone's name, sew on a cool patch of something that person loves, that kind of thing.
The facial reactions of Robert are better than the bag😂❤ and it's priceless. At this point i think people would make paper toilet seem like the new fashion trend 😂
Trader Joe's is pretty cool. It's not like Whole Foods. It's well priced and high quality food. It's somewhat like a treasure hunt. If you try things you will definitely end up with favorites and at great prices. I don't get the tote bag thing, but they have really good, healthy, and creative food items.
0:39 I'm deceased over the judgemental products 😂 but also never felt more seen lol 😂❤ "I felt like the products hated me" "you don't do this... you don't know about natural yoghurts" "judgemental watermelon" GOLD🏅
what i've learned from many things lately is as much as people make fun of fandoms, a lot of those same people don't realize they're desperately seeking one. people need hobbies. genuine interests. they're imitating all the habits of one, but for... cups and bags. and they're not even cup and bag collectors. like... lmao. community, human interaction and sharing a thing you love with other people who feel the same are also part of what many don't realize they're looking for and fandom/hobbies provide. it doesn't have to be tv, film or music, go find a bird watching group or anything else, i beg!
I have a tote bag that was the same size my mom got for me 7 years ago. I just had to retire it because it's falling apart, but idc how trendy smth is, Im going to make use of one of my other bags before buying a new one. The consumerism is WILD with this one.
Trader Joe’s is one of the only affordable options for groceries in big cities rn because their prices are the same everywhere for the most part. So I can pay the same amount for my groceries in delaware or in NYC. Only place in the city you could get a gluten free loaf of bread for under $10 without being a couponer
The last time I stood in line for anything was when Elmo was first released. My son, who is now mid 30's had to have it back then. So I stalked Toys R Us. Take care.
For some years TJ has been doing some very nice seasonal scented candles for $3.99 that went viral-ish. A lot of times they would sell out very rapidly and then appear on eBay marked up to as much as $40 per candle. In the last year or so I've noticed that they just started making more to sell, which takes away the limited cachet but allows people who are not eBay retailers to get at them for once!
Just a minute in and Robert no! Trader Joe's is nothing like whole foods. They are similar to Aldi; store brand foods, cheaper than the traditional grocery store, and many things are NOT "natural/organic". It's just a tiny grocery store 😅 I always notice my TJ's trips are cheaper than when I go to a normal big food store.
I love a good canvas tote. I am just that kind of person. Which is why I commissioned mine from an artist on Etsy who made it personal to me (waxed canvas, extra pockets, cup holder pocket, and leather straps) and who deserved every dollar I paid. Six years later my tote is still going strong. Six months later most of these people will be on to the next big fad on tiktok and the bags will be collecting dust in a closet.
The big Trader Joe’s totes are great. I got mine about 2 years ago and it’s held up perfectly. A lot of the reusable grocery bags in the US are a flimsy plastic, tarp-like material and it’s hard to pack a lot of groceries in there. The TJ bag is canvas with thick straps, I can normally fit all my groceries in 2 of the bags, and I can still carry them easily. I’m not very strong and I live in a 4th floor apartment, so having a good grocery bag makes a world of difference.
If you feel like it, you should look up the closing of “Irma” here in Denmark. People (with money) went NUTS. Barricaded the shops. People sold Irma tote bags online for a crazy amount of money. It was an expensive grocery store, nothing special and people just LOST IT😅
Nothing screams "old money" or "high fashion" (or other impressive phrases) louder than a tote bag from your local supermarket. That's how you know you made it in life.
So sorry to hear about your experience at Trader Joe’s. It’s generally considered quite affordable, has a lot good dupes for way more expensive products, like $9 sunscreen that’s just like Supergoop and the best wine for under $10. I’m an overeducated under-employed millennial so Tj’s is my favorite grocery store!
😂😂😂 the only thing I ever stood in a new release line for was the gameboy micro! Midnight release, super exciting to stand in the mall after closing hours, was a good experience. Still have it, still works, just played on it👍🤣
I’ve had the large tote for years. Had no idea their totes were a thing. The large tote holds a lot, easy to carry, washable. Good tote. Would never get the small ones.
In Romania, people are going crazy about the pistachio cream from Lidl. It is available only from time to time and mostly only for 1 day and everybody goes crazy about it when it is announced in the newspaper from Lidl. :)))
They are cute but I wouldn't wait in line for one. I need a few tote bags for my crochet projects, and maybe one skein of yarn would fit in a tiny one. 😂
You can literally make your own canvas tote bags online. Naturally there’s a price difference but I’d rather do that so they were unique to me compared to something mass produced. But overall I use my sisters old insulated Doordash bag and it holds SO MUCH stuff and folds down really well so as someone who has to walk to the store, I love it that it makes my trips so much easier.
Love shopping for groceries at Trader Joe’s. Never even knew there was a mini bag, but their big bags are great for groceries. They are based in CA and Californians are reknown for over consumption and acting like ferals over the weirdest trends.
Fascinating how in the UK Trader Joes' prices are so much different than in the US. I live in Seattle and Trader Joes is really affordable, whereas Whole Foods = Whole Paycheck.
I don't get these bags, I feel like too many people were just buying them gonna FOMO or thinking they could resell them, not because they actually liked them I have a decent amount of tote bags, but I always forget them for grocery shopping. I use the plastic bags as trash bags for my rabbit and cat litter boxes. I use tote bags mostly for crochet and knitting projects, carrying stuff to work, carrying stuff when fishing, etc. 😆 But those mini bags would only work for a very small crochet project.
