My Jamaican father was such a smart man. He built a 3 bed.....3 bath home.....We kids x 3 lived very well.....Along with our mom and dad. Unless its an investment that's seriuosly money making.....When you build in Jamaica 🇯🇲. Please be on the spot or get some one you trust. I'm glad you know, the era of the big hugly house is done, finish! nobody nah want it again. They are poorly designed, many are unfinished, no approval from parish council, not maintained and are a total disaster. How can one person live in a 7 bed, 7 bath house and not be depressed? If anyone disagrees just look at all the new housing communuties they are either apartments or maximum 3 bed houses, perfect just lock up and go bout your business. Painting my 2 bed house cost me $300,000 and I had to buy materials, A/C unit cost $100,000+ plus installation. Imagine the costs for a big house? Keep modest and humble
Honest talk. Many of the homes are very big with no one living in them. These large houses are also in disrepair because it is expensive to maintain them. Be wise... start small and expand as needed.

Im not going to bash the persons that want a large home like some of the people in the comments... these are some of the ppl that send $5k to jamaica and expect it to build a 2 bed 2 bath home 😅😅😅😅... the only thinG i will say with the big house is if u decide that this is what u want then consider the maintenance of the home also... this is where the real money will be drawn from u... the yearly cost to ensure the property stay in tip top condition...
Big houses were a trend but people are realizing they don't need a big house because it cost more than anything else. When you getting older, smaller is better. It cost to maintain any house but especially a big house. I always hear people say when people are buying or building a house, they dont factor in the cost to maintain the house and this is where they make their mistake. You should always factor in cost for maintenance.
I agree with the studio apartment!!! Donna Gowe built a nice one for one of the people she helped in Mountain View. That would do me well. Only there for winter time and have no need for any kind of mansion. Mansion days done. All you do is mek people grudge and hate you for what you have..........We living in different days.

You know, that tiny home idea for JA is not bad at all 🤔. I absolutely LOVE tiny homes, and was thinking about living in one here in Canada. My husband isn't a fan of a container home in JA, but if we built a 1 bedroom concrete home, that could be an idea🤔. At least, it would be a start. And we're not planning to have any kids. So it could work out well. Thanks for the idea! This has given me hope about us owning a home in JA.
@gloriathompson4010 I'm currently building my house in Jamaica. It's a 3 bedroom, 3 bath,open concept living dining, kitchen,washroom, and a single garage. That's a normal size.i consider 5-8 bedrooms large house.
They are very greedy and show off nation. I see the size houses they are building and even have to beg oversees and steal to build them. When they get old or injured they can't reach the second floor to clean up there. You are talking facts. My dad is jamaican and I am well taught. Your on point, I my self a single mother to a son, planning on building back home a two bedroom even if me have to build a board, I am going simple and people can't understand, because them love hype. Simple life is the best.
I find even if you ask the Jamaican builder to build a small house, they turn it into something else. I wanted a 2 bed room house but the builder turn it into 3 saying people don't build small houses anymore.

I always wonder y build a mansion n can’t finish it. Also build a smaller home n invest or save to maintain it n for rainy day. But each to their own cuz u might hear I’m bad minded I ve my own house not in Ja thou.
Infont like big houes plenty work to clean i would build s three bedroom house kitchen hall teo bathroom front veranda and back veranda ehere i can wash if rain falls i can hang my clothes there and put other things round there to the back plus a spare bathroom at the back for oersons who want to use the bathroom grill bars every where that is it to tll you the truth even if you are building a fowl coop it slso expensive thanks for your readons and advise
