@@DustyHoney just wondering what is your comment implying. is it that i would get an animal because of their obesity which i would never do or something else
I've seen my mother scream in joy and starting to cry when my constipated baby sister finally passed poop. It's hilarious now but I screamed happily with her when it happened.
The best part is that odds are the beardie just needed a bath to promote shitting. I’m non religious but imagine praying to god over lizard shit for weeks
Also the brownies I guess, just in case the beardies lick them. But to be fair, it just looks like 2 beardies doing a satanic ritual to get "The One", a better owner.
I kinda figured out what the problematic oweners of reptiles, or ANY animal for that matter, have in common. They either anthropomorphize their animal and tells themselves that the animal likes it because they themselves like it, or they are SO ignorant and uneducated about what could actually harm their animal that they try to justify their abuse by saying stuff like it's either cute or cool.
THANK YOU this is so fkn true. It's actually heartbreaking that people force animals into doing things because "OMG it's so cute". Been keeping snakes for 16 years now and have been asked countless times by random people if they can do tricks and if they're cuddly like the snakes ones on Instagram
Man, I agree with this so much. Not really bearded dragon related but pet related: I have a small, double-coated dog, and my parents keep on insisting on shaving them because from their perspective, “it’s like wearing a fur coat every day!” Not knowing, or acknowledging that double-coated breeds regulate their temperature with the thick coat. Whenever I tell them this, they keep saying: but she’s so hot! I had to put up with a spotted shaved nugget way too often, and seeing her tremble in the cold was heartbreaking.
@@angrywitchgremling8736 That sounds so annoying. People need to understand that snakes have a super alien mindset compared to humans. Snakes just vibe man, let them vibe.
@@sugarkane1571 gosh I'm so sorry your doggo had to go through that. I had to tell a relative off once for wanting to shave their double coated dog, I just straight up told them that double coated breeds can die if shaved. They never did shave the dog, I may have shocked them 😆
the dude praying to god was hilarious- I understand how stressful it is to have a sick pet, but he was putting WAY too much on the line for his beardie 😂
Imagining them trying to carefully place their two living animals who want nothing to do with each other for a photo op is kinda funny to me, in a sad sort of way. It's like you can hear them say "ooh imagine the karma I'm gonna get for this picture"

Those bearded dragons celebrating their first birthday are looking like "but we dont even eat brownies you selfish prick. This is our birthday and now it sucks because we didn't get silkworms and salad like we wanted." Poor little things 🥺
There are some areas where rehoming fees do work. For example, when people are rehoming a pet rat and want to make sure they're not used for snake food, pricing the rat above what feeder rats generally go for can ensure that the person getting your rat probably wants them as a pet. It doesn't guarantee that they'll go to a *good* home, but if you give rats away for free some people might go 'oh, free snake food'. For animals that aren't generally used as feeders, though, I'm not sure how they help.
Yes. That is one way. The other is to prevent "flipping." Adoptable, cute pets being rehomed for free are sometimes picked up by flippers, who will turn around and post the same animal for "rehoming" with a sob-story of why they are forced to find a new home... and they will charge a "rehoming fee." These are greedy people that love to prey on the emotions of pet lovers to make a little cash.
The one where the beardie ate another lizard truly scared me. Not because cannibalism, but because the lizard was wild caught. It could have given the beardie so many possible parasites!
How do you know it was wild caught? You do realize that feeder lizards are bred in captivity right? Also, it isn't cannibalism unless it eats it's own species. That was a different species of lizard. Most likely an anole. By the way. Bearded Dragons are omnivores and will eat smaller lizards, mice and other small animals.
Man, I have a beardie and a cat too. If the beardie is out, the cat is locked in another room. I had to buy a roll of chicken wire and make a fence to put on top of his terrarium to keep the cat from jumping on top. It's on a tall table that fits almost perfectly, so there's no space for the cat to jump up on the table. I know my cat wants to, and definitely would, try and eat him if her ever got the chance. His terrarium even has a lock on it now. It's a fortress! I can't believe people who let their reptile out with their cats and dogs.
Don't have a beardie yet, but am preparing for it and I'm pretty much taking the same precautions because my cats are crafty little beasts. Plan is: When I'm in the room and the tank is locked, the cats are allowed in the terrarium room. When I'm in the room and I plan on taking my beardie out, the door is firmly closed and no cats are in the room. When I am out, the door is closed and once again, the cats are not allowed in my room.
yeah my dogs are never allowed anywhere near erwin (my beardie) and he is never let near them. I keep him on a tall dresser like cabinet thing and he is uncomfortable around them even up there where they cant reach him.
Haha when I had my beardie- had 2 cats. She had run of the house once she pooped 4 the day. Cats didn't mess w/ her. Friend brought their 2ft iguana- babe attacked her. Iguana didnt care. Had to stick my pinky in her mouth to get her off iguana. She was smiling
Yea, I don’t have any reptiles yet but I definitely wouldn’t let my cat anywhere near it. Maybe not locked in another room because she’s super skittish and wouldn’t ever get close enough in the first place. But I would definitely make sure she never got close
@@TuesdaysArt I don’t find it annoying. I mean the breeder has to sell these animals. They may not have a website or store yet. They have to start somewhere
I do a re-homing fee to prevent people from using my former pet as food for larger animals or other cruelty ( I met someone who bragged about using kittens as fish bait )
GoHerping: People that shouldn't have bearded dragons Me: *All of Reddit apparently...* You're not alone, that birthday one made me uncomfortable too. Gave me too much anxiety seeing them that close to fire. And so many red flags with that first one. The fact they thought it was a good idea to post it on Reddit, the lizard it ate was wild-caught, and why feed it that when veggies literally exist. Like, you should never feed your pet reptile something that's wild-caught. The only pet I give wild-caught things to is my pet Venus fly trap, and that's because it's a freakin' PLANT. This is a creature we are talking about, a creature that could die of parasites because you were *estupido* enough to give it something from the wild.
I don't understand some people. It's like saying that they caught a live wild rabbit to give to their dog ( apparently logic is out of the window with some individuals)
Plus just the morality of feeding an innocent baby lizard to a pet for no real reason other than for their enjoyment. Live feedings in general are pretty useless, unless it is insects or a snake that won't eat frozen thawed, but otherwise most animals are fine eating non-moving or living prey.
I slightly disagree about rehoming fees. I think it's true that they don't guarantee a good owner. But it isn't entirely useless as it deters severely fucked up people that would use the animal for non-pet purposes just because it is free or very very cheap. For example, my town has had issues with rehomed cat/dog serial killers. Rehoming fees don't solve the problem entirely, bit greatly reduce the frequency of it.
This is why none of the shelters/pet fostering services here give animals away anymore too. One particular incident had a family taking in free cats and filming their dogs attacking them.
I agree. A lot of people will use small animals for pet food. If they have to pay more than pet food is worth they won't buy a pet rabbit for their snake or what have you.
I've always thought of "rehoming fees" as a euphemism for selling- it makes for good marketing, since it feels very caring and personal. Even though selling reptiles is common and normal, I can imagine someone being driven to the pathos of it. Like in a, "it would be my pleasure to prove to you that I have the finances to take care of this pet!" vs "Yeah, I can fork over a few bucks". I definitely agree with the deterrent of animal abusers, while a very small percent- but I'm sure it's much larger purpose is effective business haha.
@@hanthonyc At least in terms of cats/dogs here, rehoming fees include initial vet checkups, chipping, desexing and vaccinations (and the animals already need homes when they first enter the system, they're not bred for sale), so there's an inherent priority of animal welfare over straightforward 'selling'; most of those fees go to the costs of fostering, vet care etc vs the profit priority of old school pet shops. Of course someone could just relabel their traditional animal sales to 'rehoming' to take advantage of the ethical perception but that's why people need to look into who they're adopting animals from.
Craigslist doesn't allow the "sale" of animals- but it allows animals to be "rehomed". doesn't stop people from doing it they just become choice with their words.

when i first got a beardie i already had two cats; my old lady was disinterested whenever my beardie moved in his tank as a baby, but the kitten stared almost in a trance at his movements and wagged her tail and i just knew i’m never letting my beardie out unless the cats were out of my room
I know someone that orders “feeder lizards” to so he can ‘show off how cool it is’ feed them to his Bearded Dragon. (Reminds me of a creep I knew in college who had 2 piranhas, & LOVED to have people watch him feed them live mice.)
I found it freaking hilarious. Talking about the faith. Wonder how many animals have died because they didn't "pray hard enough" when really you just need to take it to the vet to save its life.
@@DustyHoney While you might be right, if they can't afford stuff like that, then they just should not have animals in the first place. Costly emergencies can happen at any time, and you need to have money stashed away for that.

Hey there. I stumbled across your channel due to adopting a rescue dragon. (Friend of a friend) I dove into all the RU-vid help I could find on how to best care for him and your channel has been awesome in helping me learn about my new friend in a short amount of time. I wanted to say Thank you, and I subscribed. Also as a side note: He was well taken care of by his previous owner, he seems happy, healthy and loves to explore. This isn't my first small animal as a pet or a rescue either as I've raised everything from hamsters and chickens to budgies and and an Iguana once. So I hope I'm a good dad for this little guy.
The little dog messing withthe beardy, it looks like it was just nervously trying to initiate play. Like it didn't know really what that thing was, but it wanted to play with it. That's why is ran away so quick when the berady charged, it got scared. (I've also scene dogs do that to dead birds, so it might of thought it could eat it and was just checking it out first)
I think I know how the bearded dragon at 17:27 died. Just look how far back the ears are on that cat, like... That's the look of a cat that is 5 seconds from attacking.
watching people take care of animals so badly makes my blood boil ... pets need less praying and more pet owners that are educated enough to take care of them.
Dogs do that paw thing when they’re like kinda excited about something and wanna touch / interact with it but they wanna be gentle so they just kinda bat at the air, so it’s probably not the type of dog who’s gonna bite the beardie but still, why
It's really hard to neglect a bearded dragon if you just put a LITTLE thought into it. Idk why these people would ever think of caring for a life without knowing everything they need. It's horrible. Calypso, my beardie is a very happy dragon. She's got a bioactive cage so cleaning requirements are minimal and mealworms breed in the soil so she can naturally catch live prey. I also premade a blend of cricket powder, veggjes, some fruits, and some vitamins. Baked it, broke it into pieces, and froze it. She's not got healthy food that's easy for her to eat and she's living in rather natural vivarium. I want to plant plants in I, but it's too narrow and she'd just trample them lmao. And yes I know, the cage should be a little wider but it was the best big cage I could find that I could afford, she still loves it and isn't too crowded. Hopefully if I get this job that pays well I can get her a bigger cage. I wanna build a custom cage inside of a desk, that'd be dope. Sorry for the rant lmao
It’s wonderful that you care so much for your little chicken strip! But honestly, it’s so hard to neglect a reptile pet since they’re comparably so low maintenance than other types of pets. Give them a place to vibe, fruits and veggies and bugs, and clean their poop up. Do a bit of research and a bearded dragon is as happy as a clam!

I just love the "can't afford vet, can't afford pet" saying Reddit spouts off all the time. I literally got told by r/dogs that I should not own a dog because I can't afford the thousands of dollars bill to take my dog to a behavior specialist. The behavior specialist in my area literally charged $600/hr and was the only one within a several hour drive. Like 99% of the world would not be allowed to own a pet if everyone followed all of Reddit's rules.
I agree. If you own a pet you should be able to afford basic care. Food, toys, check ups and vaccination, but you can't blame a person for not being able to afford 2000 dollars upfront if suddenly something really bad happened. Like the cost for something common like an ear infection is different to a car accident or cancer. The biggest example of this is the RU-vidr who owns a dog called Uso. Uso fell I'll from one-day to another and got paralyzed. He couldn't afford the treatment but thanks to a go fund me he was able to and he has done so much for his dog who couldn't go to the bathroom on his own or stand ECT ect. People who say 'if you can't afford the outages vet bill of a sudden problem than you shouldn't own a Pet' likely are hypocritos or rich people
Not being able to pay for ridiculous training bills is far from not being able to pay for basic care. It’s always a good idea to have an emergency fund but the bills can be extreme if you have special circumstances. $600 an hour is insane
Exactly. I have an emergency vet fund for my pets but if one of them ends up with cancer or something similar, I won't be able to afford it without depeleting all my savings. Vet bills can be extremely high.
The "can't afford a pet" issue is....tricky. On one hand, good keepers shouldn't be shamed if they ask for advice for a sudden emergency while having done their research, done good husbandry so far, etc. (esp. since vet bills in places like the USA are often astronomical depending on where you live and what animal needs help). BUT to not consider saving up for some basic vet care (even a few dollars put away each month can help a bit!) and to try praying away the issue rather than even considering an emergency vet visit is....well, not good. The animal suffers.
@@thejasminedragonmerchant6843 yes , I agree. You should be always have a found on the side and be able to afford more common vet bill for something like infected ears or UTI. I've always been lucky enough to afford treatments for my pets when they've fallen I'll but I'm always worried that i won't be able to afford a large cost up front just because here in the US prices are outrages. Hell i likely wouldn't be able afford teatment for myself if it was something really big
Just wanted to share this somewhere. Recently me and my bf got a new beardie. We weren't planning on getting a rescue but that's what she turned into. She's a Hypo Translucent, she's 8 months old and is much much smaller (think barely the size of your palm) then my 5 month old Hypo. Her last owner bought her without her parents contest and knowledge, she was fed ice berg lettuce her entire life and lived in a small cage with sand and a cup for a hide We've had her for a couple weeks now and she's growing like crazy, she also LOVES broccoli and roaches. She wasn't handled a lot her whole life so she's angry and tries to bite but she's slowly getting better about being handled by me and my bf. Her name is Sunny and I love her
In Aus, we have laws against feeding live, as its only allowed to be invertebrates (I think as the capacity to feel pain was thought to be connected to a central nervous system?). But then there was that ruling about personhood for lobsters in the UK, so who knows how that discussion might evolve.
@@madiis18account you're right! I'd think a yabbie would be able to cause trouble too but I guess not enough. And in the wildlife care I've been told the live insects can eat their way out of the baby bird if they're too young...guess parents always make sure they're dead first. But the animal welfare regulations around cruelty (at least in nsw) do define 'animal' for cruelty law purposes as various vertebrates - and crustaceans but only at resteraunts where they're intended for eating? - and they stipulate with live feeding it's only not falling under cruelty laws when you can reasonably justify a predatory animal is otherwise refusing to eat. So the cruelty to prey is at least considered, but weighed up, on the whole.

I have a feeling that the guy talking about praying for his bearded dragon is either a baiter or a troll. Reddit is notorious for its atheist community so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was trying to get a reaction from some of them.
I let my cat be around my snake, he’s really old and when he does see her he’s usually in a snuggly mood, so he doesn’t swat or mess with her. I do pay attention to if he gets riled up, but since both of them have no aggressive reactions I don’t think it’s too bad
That guy is trying to be a christian without understanding anything about christianity and its values. Another thing, I always say it: Personifying animals, especially non mammals, looking at their feelings from a human POV, and prioritizing your human understanding of the animal's feelings over the animal's biological needs does more evil than good in 89% of cases. Awesome video as always :)
@@Mia-zk6rz nothing’s wrong with celebrating your pets birthdays as long as it’s not harming them. Obviously don’t make them eat human cake, or put them in dangerous situations. As long as it’s not harmful for both the mental and physical state of the animal or handler, it’s completely okay.
I love the idea of free-roaming pets if it suits them, but a beardie?? I'd be so scared of stepping on it. At least ferrets will do a lot more to scamper out of the way.
The person who said "If you can't afford the vet. Don't get the pet." Is 100% correct. So many people get pets that then get sick and suffer. Dying from a slow death. When the animal could have been easily treated and lived a long life!!
Well, a guinea pig bite is excrutiating, and you will probably need stitches afterwards.. so i would not recommend putting a beardie near one, cause if you have a fiesty one, who is not afraid, it will for sure damage a beardie.. (i had a very fiesty rescue guinea pig who managed to escape out of his enclosure, and he attacked my pug.. like i said, they can be quite dangerous, and my dog ended up need a few stiches)
I own 2 Guinea pigs. DO NOT LET YOUR GUINEA PIG WITH YOUR REPTILES. A Guinea pig bite hurts like a mother fucker and will pierce through skin. If the Guinea pig bites your lizard, your lizard could get an infection or could kill your Guinea pig. Do not do this 😬
In OR on most public sites, you’re not allowed to list an animal “For Sale”, but you can “Ask for a re-homing fee” of any amount 🙄. They’re selling them it’s ridiculous.
Saying “rehoming fee” as opposed to “for sale” is just to get around Craigslist terms and conditions. In my area, if you post an animal “for sale,” the post gets taken down immediately by the people who monitor the Craigslist section for pets. Sometimes the posts even get taken down if the “rehoming fee” is “unreasonable.” I doubt that most people using that term are trying to be PC or charge less, they’re just trying to get their post to stay up
the little dog that was pawing at the beardie was trying to play, and relatively gently at that - of course the beardie sees it as threatening, though, and it's easy for the dog to accidentally cause harm as we all well know by now. Or, as we all should know, anyway.
Yeah, I don't think guinea pigs and bearded dragons are at all bothered by each other. I've had my beardie sit on my lap while sitting next to our guinea's cage and both pets act like the other isn't even there. To contrast, when my guinea sees another piggie through the bars he tries to bend the bars so he can maul the other piggie. We plan to keep them in the same room, but I don't directly expose them to each other or each other's things so they don't accidentally lick a pathogen from the other and get sick.
I mean, guineapigs and rabbits have pretty dangerous bites when they're serious. Something that chews wood and such to manage their teeth could probably inflict some discomfort... maybe? I'd still be way more worried about dogs and cats with some confirmed kills under their belts. I've seen what a dogbite can do to a reptile thanks to a broken enclosure, I'd never encourage taking the risk.
I'm doing my PhD on bearded dragons and I go to r/BeardedDragons to feel alive again Edit: on the topic of brumating your beardies, I have no idea either. I've spoken to numerous specialist vets, zoo keepers, other scientists, none of us have a damn clue. You can if you want, you probably don't have to, they might brumate anyway even if you don't want them to.
The owner of the bearded dragon who ate the lizard said they found the lizard outside omg… are they not worried about parasites?? Also at 13:55 the dog is wanting to play lol
People say rehoming fee on Craig’s list because it’s against the rules to sell pets on there. But you can get around it by saying there’s a rehoming fee, because technically that’s not selling them.
Rehoming fees are there because you technically can't "sell" an animal on Craigslist. They go around this by charging a rehoming fee instead. Like gambling being illegal but men play games for marbles or other tokens which they can then exchange for money.
To expose myself. I also did the mistake of letting my cats near my beardies. That was over half a decade ago and they were my first reptiles. I know better today and always put my dog and cats out of the room before getting any reptiles out
I almost stole a beardie from a person who did not provide a big enough cage. I tried to get them to fix it but they disappeared on me before I could take him out of state. I still regret not just taking him
regarding the reddit comment - It can be hard to justify a several hundred dollar vet bill on $50 lizard after spending $200+ on enclosure. I don't agree with saying people cant have pets if they can't afford unexpected vet bills, that is like saying don't have kids if you can't afford paying for cancer treatment. If anything complain about the lack of proper care that likely caused the issue.
Literally not having any money for the vet is one thing, but finding it hard to " justify" spending money is a whole other. You take an animal into your care, you are responsible for their wellbeing as best as you can afford it. Vet care is expensive, even for basic care. If you cannot afford basic vet care, don't have an animal. If you don't want to pay for the vet, then definitely do not have an animal.
@@niveusnimbus I think you extrapolated on my word choice a bit much. In the beginning when talking about feeding rats to snakes. I would like to say that rats are extremely smart and have great pain reception. I keep rats as pets and have seen how human like they are first hand. Rats form strong emotional bonds with rats and people and can solve puzzles learn their names do tricks and you can potty train them. It makes me sad to see live feeding of rodents and i understand that some snakes won’t eat dead rats. It does make me sad to think about the life that those rats had before being fed to a snake because it was probably terrible

He seems content and smiles a lot and I can promise he gets a lot of love and he is the sweetest thing you’ve ever met
The “rehoming fee” is because you can’t sell or be a breeder and sell animals on Craigslist you can only “rehome” and ask for a small “rehoming fee” that’s stated in the Craigslist policy. That’s why people say rehoming when they really mean selling, they don’t want their post taken down.
@14:00 the dog is trying to stamp at the beardie to get it to play, but if it lands a stamp it will injure if not kill the beardie, and the beardie is well aware of this.
