I was on this ship. And they're was absolutely not people throwing up everywhere. Yes, a lot were sea sick and had to stay in their room, but people are making this a lot worse than it was. Yes it was a bad storm. But all the crew members I encountered were professional and doing a great job under the conditions.

Best thing to do when there is considerable pitching and/or rolling is to eat very lightly, and pass on greasy, heavy food and avoid alcohol. For God sake WHY do the media and certain passengers have to blow things up out of proportion. She mentioned the ship went up and a huge bang. That is the sound of the hull of the ship hitting the water. It is NORMAL for this to happen in rough seas. This was nothing compared with what we got in 2017. You go cruising, so you have to be prepared for the weather to turn like this. The captains all know the seas well and what these ships are capable of. What the passengers and media dont take into consideration is that a ship travels at a slow speed anyway. In a storm they have to slow down to about half speed. So you are looking at around 15 to 20 knots of speed. If a ship turns to avoid the storm, the storm will still catch up to it eventually which could make it even worse. So STOP DRAMATISING IT. This is THE SEA and NATURE.

We just got off an NCL cruise to Iceland a week ago. We missed our two main ports due to rough weather. Did people get sick? Yes. My son was one of them. But he knew the risk and prepared the best he could. If prone to seasickness and love to cruise, prepare or stay home. We had 27-30 foot swells. There was no one puking anywhere that I saw. I assume most people would do that in private and not talk about it to strangers. We were at sea for two and a half days like this. No furniture flying around, yes, we lost our footing occasionally but went about having the best time we could. Meals were served, shows were canceled and I never heard many complaints. Most people on this cruise were well-seasoned cruisers and made the best of the ride. Was I scared? No. Disappointed? Absolutely. I spent a lot of the time watching the sea and filming the action and beauty of the power of water. The scene the lady in the Carnival video portrayed is outlandish. The media will always use the worst response they can get in any circumstance.

Spent the first half of my working life at sea. There is nothing at all abnormal about weather conditions like this. If you can, you try to chart a course around the worst of it but most of the time, you're on a tight schedule and you just go where you're going and ride it out. The ships are built for it. It's the sea and you're on a ship. This is what life at sea is like. I feel that most people who go on these cruises are not the least bit prepared for bad weather because the tour companies play up the fun elements of the trip and never warn people about what can happen if the weather turns foul and the sea gets angry. It's a bloody good thing I wasn't on that ship or I'd have been fired the minute we docked. I can't stand crybabies! That's why I spent my career on tankers and container ships.

"that's ok, i'll sue the airline for leaveing without me". like the comment said before me. no win situation.

This happened to us returning from a Yucatan cruise with Princess. En route to San Francisco, when we hit Monterey Bay things got nuts. Ship was pitching and rocking to the point that even when holding on to the hall walls while walking, everyone would fall. Kids. Adults. Everyone. We took some Dramamine and slept through it, but we weren't eager to do another cruise after that. It was a 10 day and for a first cruise, quite fatiguing.

oh my God stop dramatising. Storms are always going to happen and it is easy for all you people who think you know more than the sailors and captains to sit back saying what they should and should not do. These saliors and captains know the seas like the back of their hands. Storms are unpredicatable. No captain will willingly put passengers in danger. They know what the ships can handle. If people dont like it, then they should not cruise. I absolutely LOVE cruising in storms and we have been through far worse than this on 3 occasions and came out unscathed.

In 1983, my ship the USS Ranger CV-61, and it's escorts was chased out of Subic bay, by a powerful typhoon. We were refueling with our escorts in heavy seas. Looking out the hangar bay, storm doors. I saw waves at least 50 ft high. I was told of waves tall enough to crest the top of our hurricane bow! This cruise ship was dealing with 15 to 20 ft waves? The ship must be smaller than I thought. Something to remember. The smaller the ship? The bigger the impact of large ocean waves. There is a reason why ocean going ships have such high bows. I have always thought that too many cruise ships look rather top heavy. The more top heavy a ship, makes for much harder rolling in heavy seas. With a greater chance that the ship will roll too far, and capsize. It's obviously large enough for normal seas to cause so little rolling that most people don't need motion sickness pills. Just so, when booking a cruise? People should pay attention to the weather forecast. A few random thunderstorms are expected. Large tropical depressions can turn into extremely violent and dangerous seas. As scary as this trip was? The waves could easily have been TWICE the size this ship encountered. So? BEFORE embarking? Make sure you know the weather forecast, and the ship's emergency procedures. A cabin with a window over the sea looks fine in port. The closer it is to the water line, the more likely that a rogue wave can break it, and flood the deck. It's not impossible to get swept overboard.

Big difference in the 26 years since your trip = much more advanced radar and meteorology! This captain knew exactly what he was heading into and his supervisors told him to go ahead. Period. Risk assessment all about $$$$$$$$. Because the cruise industry has finally rebounded since covid, they're trying to make up their losses as quickly as possible. And the idea of delaying one ship's return due to a storm would have probably upset the ongoing schedule for when it was due to leave port again. That would also upset the revenue they're trying so quickly to recoup. Unfortunately for them, a lot of these passengers are going to sue, so not only will they have to deal with the expenses of the damage to the ship, they will have to pay out settlement money as well. It doesn't pay to be greedy.
