A couple of things- 1. My in laws and some of my husbands family were on this ship during the storm. From their point of view- there were announcements made from the cruise director to keep everyone informed and calm durning the storm. 2. My husband has a ship tracker on his phone and you can CLEARLY see where the captain tried to go around the storm but it was too big and just had to try to get people back to safety. I say THANK YOU to the captain and the crew for doing what it took to bring my family back home safe 🤍

My husband and I have cruised several times and hit two horrible storms, we were told we hit 19 foot waves in one and high winds, so they closed off the top deck for most of the trip. The captain kept us up to date occasionally, but we were never worried. It was a big ship and she handled it great. Sure our feet lifted out from under us a couple times, but we were in a storm, we held onto hand rails and were careful. The crew and captain did their jobs.

I am a Navy Vet. I was stationed in Charleston twice. Storms come up and that one was very typical. Cruise ships usually avoid these storms but I assume a scheduled return along with fuel costs had them go into it. The ship was not in any danger. minor water damage is typical. water weighs just over 8 pounds a gallon so it has great force. Typical passengers don't deal with the sea.

As a ship nerd, ships this size are designed to be flexible in order to "bend" in rough seas. Also, it's most likely better to sail your ship directly into this storm because a detour would have been costly and time-consuming. Ships like this were designed with squalls in mind. More than once, the ship pitched up and slammed down in the waves. Those seas lasted at least 36 hours. The wind was so strong that the ship was listing so severely we had to hang onto the the railing to stay upright. Was I scared, yep. Did I make it to make my destination, safely, yep. That wasn’t happenstance. That was a captain and crew focused on sailing a ship in rough seas!
