ok but.... isn't it GOOD that a non-black hairdresser learnt how to do natural hair in school? Shouldn't every hairdresser be qualified and shouldn't black people be able to go to any hairdresser and trust that they know what to do with natural hair? Like, isn't that equality, being taught all textures in school so you can work with any client?

It should be the norm that a person, no matter the curl type, should expect the same level of service as any straight-haired person. I'm a white person with thick, curly hair (3a/3b), and I'm often going from stylist to stylist because the one before didn't know what they were doing with my hair -- even when I gave them the basic survival tips. The latest one actually took his time to listen, even if he did make comments about my hair being "massive". Best cut I've had in a long time.

People learn and train at different schools with different standards. Some schools may teach theres a 4d hair pattern but it’s so uncommon that it gets lumped in with 4c or something like that. None of yal (from what I’ve seen) are trained professionals so let’s just sit here and learn something too and be glad that people outside of our own are learning to care for our hair. Smh. Yal so pressed

Honestly I'm happy when there is someone who went to a school that teaches anything about curly hair. A family friend of mine told me that the beauty school that she went to (and most of the ones that her coworkers went to) don't teach anything at all about curly hair, she had to take separate classes at a different school after she graduated so that she could even vaguely do hair like mine (3a-3c) because her teachers taught her that there "isn't really a difference between curly and straight hair".

Lmao she aint perfect. I'm puzzled as to why does the blonde "hairdresser" have on gloves for Bianca's kinky hair? But not for Freddie's curly/coily hair? Actually theres quite a few things I am puzzled over with this video but I'll just say this.....when you go to hairdressers who don't really understand the beauty of kinky and coily hair you receive misguidance. These hairdressers should take a course on knowing how to care for African American hair in it's natural state. I'm not discrediting them. Im just saying there is room for growth.

I like how non professionals are trying to tell her how to do her job. People think because they black the automatically know everything about black people hair. Like no unless you went to school for it don't say anything. They trying to clown her for saying 4d, when it's actually a thing.

okay but usually people who go to cosmetology school and even specialize in hair care really do not have experience or even know how to do 3c to 4c hair. so there is a lot of distrust among hairstylists who do not have the same texture, trying to style kinky hair.
@willcharles1171
@willcharles1171 6 лет назад
As a black person I was hesitant.. did I think she was an expert? No. did I appreciate that fact that she probably/hopefully was thought this in a beauty school? Yes! Because to my experience beauty schools seem to lack when it comes to Afro hair like seriously if you even could find a non black hair dresser that knows how to do black hair usually it was how to straighten it. At first I was confused but after the thinking about it I'm glad to see Afro hair get more attention and being learned about. :)
@christrocks7695
@christrocks7695 6 лет назад
Will Charles I understand what you are saying but the issue is that prices end up being sky high for Black hair services and products. We are just getting the fake hair from the Koreans and now we are being encroached in the natural hair community.
@willcharles1171
@willcharles1171 6 лет назад
Getting Snatched that's what I'm talking about if more stylist knew about Afro hair I think it would have the opposite effect. Prices would go down because the service is widely available. Also the reason the prices are high is black women have let it they can't force us to buy anything for example have you seen the price of perms resent they've gone down and are always on sell because less people are in to them same with coconut oil when naturals got in to it you could get a huge tube for a small price when the companies notices this they raise the prices and shrunken the tubs. So I stop buying it and moved on to Shea butter because that's i didn't appreciate that. what I trying to say is like diamonds they are go to put the products out there and there worth is base on what the consumer thinks and as soon a black people realizes that we will have very affordable hair care.
@alopiaspelagicus1628
@alopiaspelagicus1628 6 лет назад
I grew up in Latin America, but even here hair is very mich influenced by US standards, so everyone would straighten their hair. I always thought it was a shame, because so many latinx people have beautiful curls, and I think that natural hair is just as beautiful! I'm glad that you can see a change now and people giving their natural hair much more love and acceptance. And I believe that hairdressers should be taught all hair types and how to keep them healthy!

I really like this video. I've searched for so many videos on how to style natural hair. I tried different products and find Cantu works good for me. Shea Moisture is better but Cantu is a little cheaper, but prices have increased a bit. I only use leave in conditioners and sulfate free shampoo and conditioners. My hair was as long as Tristan's but I changed to an undercut. Kinda miss it but I like that it's not as much maintenance. Very informative video. Freddie's hair turned out great! 😊👍

If your curl shrinks a lot it’s dehydrated? No ma’am that is incorrect. I steam my hair every week & the more hydration I put to my hair, the shrinkage becomes more apparent. I have never heard of hydrated hair being looser for naturals because that is simply not a fact. After i deep condition, i know it works if those curls are popping which means more shrinkage i.e hydration. Some of the stylist are talking just to talk. 4D sis? No.

all the love and support for rocking natural hair and beauty! I have participated in several events where companies demonstrate taking care of hair with professionals and this lady knows what she's talking about. The brand of no poo used on one of the girls here is sold in Sephora in trial packs just in case you don't want to commit to the product without trying it. Everyone wants to play "expert" and love bashing those with the actual diploma as far as I can see in the comments section... the before and after results are all you really need to see and the smiles on the clients faces. good luck on your journey 😉

I trust my own experience more than what was said. 3) I really don't understand how the female model learned 'so much' just now. No new information here. She definitely never tried to learn anything about her hair during her five years of being natural. Oh and for actual perfect curls, check out the naturalistas on RU-vid doing their wash n' go.

OK I’m hairdresser also black and I’m have natural hair. She has the hydration thing completely wrong. It’s the opposite if your hair is Hydrated properly you’ll have more shrinkage but less fizz if your hair is dehydrated you will have more length but you’ll have increased fizz. Nicole she’s thinking about our looser curls waive the big barrel curls more typical curls that white people have. Derrick Rose if they are dry will be shorter due to frizziness but that doesn’t apply to typical black hair.

CeCe Goddess Well I know its worse but its not far from 4C. To most hair stylists 4D doesn’t exist to them. So the bets way to explain it to people who don’t know is just “basically 4C” ya know?

i'm sorry but devachan salons do not know how to do black hair. you never leave with your hair dry and within a few hours its a matted tangled mess! plus the haircuts are $100+ even if you just want a trim! Every time I've gone the stylist freaks out because it doesn't go as planned and i've been to 4 different locations. My hair looks 10X better when I do it myself. And every time I've been I end up teaching them more about black hair than I learn about doing hair. They are always like 'oh my god i'm so happy you came in i've learned so much from you!' The products are way too expensive too. Devachan is for 2c to 3b curls. they do not know how to deal with kinky hair!

Great job and the information is on point. People are always asking me about my hair and I follow most of her ideas. I always massage my scalp and spray water everyday as well as massage the products in the hair. I use conditioner and a little oil . I never really comb my hair. 👌🏾

Did she say 4D.... When you don’t have a lot of Moisture your hair shrinks a lot???? Where did they get this lady?
@SeraphimCramer
@SeraphimCramer 6 лет назад
It stands to reason that your hair would hang looser if it has more moisture because it's heavier. Does your hair shrink up in the shower or does it hang? Moisturizing is literally just adding liquid to your hair. She did go to hairdressing school, so probably best to listen to the trained professional.

AdraicStarks that shot don't make sense. 4D has nothing to do with shrinkage
@missovercomer2488
@missovercomer2488 6 лет назад
AdraicStarks her going to school doesn't mean she is making sense. Type 4 hair does not hang when its moisturized it only hangs when drenched with water. With moisture it actually shrinks.

See my problem isn’t with the fact that they had a non black person doing their hair and giving them info, it’s with the fact that she gave the wrong info. I’d have a problem if she was black and giving them the wrong information simply because she’s giving them the wrong information. Simple.
