I lived in Bloomington, IL, back in the ‘90’s. CR had a symbol

Theres still a section of the tracks that still runs from Covington to Danville and it stops at the CSX Railroad, and it ends at the wabash river, the Vermillion Valley Railroad owns that track, they use it for car storage, those tracks run behind my house.

I did work in Danville a number of years ago and remember the connection between the P&E and the Egyptian Line at CP Jack

Conrail used the P&E from Indy to Crawfordsville to access the auto plant in Lafayette. They used to use the old Big 4 Up from Lebanon but they cut that in 1985.

I remember on a railfanning trip in the midwest we found an abandoned Diamond of the P & E ( East / West ) crossing over the old GM&O ( North / South ) at Farm City ILL...There was an abandoned grain elevator and on the P & E there were still signals lights marked P & E ( New York Central system) ....That was in 1999

I grew up in Champaign IL in a house not far from the Peoria & Eastern Harris St. crossing. An Illinois Central branch line crossing was near it. I don't remember the first time I saw a P&E train-either at Harris St. or from the IC station. Those P&E trains would book fast through Champaign-Urbana. What fascinated me was how the P&E(NYC) ran their old Geeps engine long-end first rather than cab-end first like the IC did. There were odd unit lash-ups like Geep-B-F. A common sight were auto frames stacked up at an angle but I can't remember which direction they were headed. While at the Dairy Queen by the Prospect Ave crossing I actually saw an eastbound P&E passenger train with a single Geep and old coaches. Another time I was out NW of Champaign with a classmate and we saw an easbound train from across a field with one

I think that old line ran through Cayuga IN & a mile or so West is the old diamond area of the Milwaukee Road.

The PE between Crawfordsville to Olin was a victim on L Stanly Cranes rationalization.....
