I do see what you are saying though... but remember that Michael J. Fox and Back to the Future both had ties to Pepsi going back to the first Back to the Future (1985). There is strong Pepsi product placement in Back to the Future I -- Marty even orders a "Pepsi Free" from the 1950's diner (Pepsi Free is sugar free Pepsi - and a 1985 product). And if you look at other of my posts, you'll find Fox doing an ad for Pepsi. Anyway, trust me... the ad is from 1985.
1) I realize that, but it is being presented as reality. 2) Completely understood. I am merely asking questions that any ordinary viewer would ask. 3) They're in Coke labs. 4) And yet the commercial reflects on BTTF3. 3a) As for your "college" comment, is that any way to treat a commenter with good intentions? I don't care what stuff you've posted, because I'm blocking you.
@t3b4n22 - I promise that this is from 1985. I acquired the recording in 1986 -- they release previous seasons' commercials for educational analysis. BTW, Back to the Future (first one) was released in 1985. Remember in the story arc of the 3 movies, Marty starts in 1985, visits 1955, 2015, 1955 again, an alternate 1985, and finally 1885 - albeit 1885, as you say, was for the 3rd film (in 1990). 1985 was the 100th anniversary of Coke... that was THEIR campaign that year - which Pepsi lampoons.
So here is exactly what happened. He went back in time and discovered that coke was using real cocaine in their soft drink, so he did the next logical thing. Realizing that crack is much more addictive than cocaine he put large amounts of it in Pepsi. Crack the choice of a new generation.
The presence of a Pepsi machine is understandable - know your foe. BUT! 1) Why is Coke sending somebody back to 1885? 1b) And how did they get time travel? 2) Why is a Coke employee wanting a can of their competitor? 2b) Barring the whole "learn your foe" thing? 3) How did the men not notice the Pepsi can until it disappeared? 3b) And why did the building they came out of change before it disappeared? 4) Why this shameless ripoff of "Back To The Future III"? 4b) ...Or did this come first?
is really this ad from 1985? are you sure it's not from 1990? I mean this because 1885 was the year in which back to the future 3 (released in 1990) is set, so what a coincidence it would be if they chose exactly the same year back to the future part 3 would use when it was released 5 years later. just saying.
5a) Why are you an idiot? i. This is a commercial; NOT reality. ii. They "got time travel" as a part of "willing suspension of disbelief." This is a similar concept to understanding where Superman "got flying." iii: These scientists are NOT employees of a soft drink company-think COLLEGE, which, I realize, is a completely foreign concept to you. iv: YES this is a rip-off of mid-80's popular culture-like Back to the Future! (the ORIGINAL-this was 1985). HELLO?!?!?! McFly?!?!??!
