Apparently it's a case of how much sweetener they use. Your brain is basically hardwired to prefer something with lots of sugar (which includes artificial sweeteners, since your brain registers them as basically the same thing). Pepsi tense to use more sweetener, so in blind taste tests it tends to win, but from what I've seen people generally prefer Coke when actually thinking about the flavor. Blind taste tests aren't necessarily a perfect way to gauge people's enjoyment of something, because there's a lot of shortcuts in the brain that can be taken advantage of.

The point of a blind taste test is to focus on, y'know, _the taste,_ without taking into consideration brand preference, color, packaging, etc. If you prefer pepsi over coke in a blind taste test, then you like the taste of pepsi more than coke. You may have other reasons to want to drink coke instead of pepsi, but taste is not one of them.

People are so obsessed with brands that they've been brainwashed by Coke's advertising to prefer it lol. I've seen so many of these comparisons (Ben Deen, ReportOfTheWeek etc.) done it with my friends as well as Pepsi almost always wins. People be confidently shittalking Pepsi too and then pick it 😭

​@@Frostbitten. It was proven, pepsi wins in blind tests because of one sip, its more sweet, but when drinking a whole can people prefer coke because it is less sweet, pepsi zero max is better than zero sugar coke but normal coke is definitely still better than pepsi in my opinion

Mexican coke is fire. Imo Mexican coke is better with some foods, Pepsi is better with others but overall Pepsi is smoother and the GOAT. Coke zero vs. Pepsi Max is close tho.

It’s because Pepsi is significantly sweeter. Ultimately it comes down to if you prefer really sweet drinks or more mild drinks. Most people prefer significantly sweeter ones

From what I've read, this is actually an interesting phenomenon, but not necessarily representative of actual general preference. TL;DR your brain is basically chemically addicted to sugar, so on an initial taste things with more sugar tend to be considered "better" by the brain (your brain reacts to artificial sweeteners the same way, just processes them differently). Pepsi in the u.s. is generally sweeter than Coke, so it gets preferred in blind tastes. The marketing is definitely part of it, but also blind taste tests also just aren't necessarily a great way of gauging WHY people enjoy something. Like, personally I can drink Pepsi, it's fine, but I don't really think it tastes like much other than "sweet". I think Coke should be a bit more citrusy, which is why I prefer it. Of course, I'm a soda guy, so I think I tend to analyze my sodas more deeply than the average person, so that might play a role (though cola is far from my favorite soda).
