Spot on Dan agreed with everything you said. When my body goes into alarm and my symptoms ramp up I slow my breathing down, put my hand on my heart, go into my body with compassion and acceptance, stay out of my head and it’s ruminating, loop like thoughts. I look around me and say “although my body feels alarmed I am truly safe right now in this present moment and my body is fine, it’s ok to feel these symptoms, emotions etc” Then once I feel my body calm down (and my rational brain comes back on line) I can then reason it all out with logical thinking. This whole process used to take me a while and I’d have to repeat it often throughout the day. Now it takes a couple of minutes and I only need to do it a few times a day. I know one day I won’t need it at all. Thanks Dan 💗

I agree that symptoms can create mental health challenges, because you think "something is wrong with me" and yes you can get very down because of uncomfortable things you feel... But as you said, we do have to see that light somewhere there no matter what it is we are facing, it's not dangerous....so we are safe. Uncomfortable, but safe. I also do my best to live a normal life every day. I face multiple not so nice sensations, but I try to make the best out of it. And don't forget...we are also human, not robots...if we are sad, angry or happy....so what, we are!! all normal human emotions....feel them and move on.

Agree. Sadness from not feeling you've reached your potential, societal judgement etc etc. It's no wonder so many are suffering. Gonna really try give myself this message re my anxiety and agoraphobia. Got to lose those labels too. Got out today, bone pain very high. Kept telling myself "it's not dangerous, carry on walking". Think I seriously need to look at getting a part time job, to challenge my fears and raise my self esteem. Great video. Thanks 👍

Agree. I did not work for a while. Symptoms decreased and I started working again. I overcame some obstacles and then came the depression. But I recognized it as a pattern of my brain trying to get me out of this. I try to stay calm and talk to my brain. Sometimes not as easy as I wanted it to be. But I hang in there

Hi Dan! Yes, I agree with you that mental health issues are caused by the brain perceiving danger. When I initially found you on YT, I wasn’t feeling my emotions (I was pushing emotions away) and I was perceiving everything as a threat. Thanks to your teachings of feeling your emotions, leaving anxiety and fearful based thoughts alone (not engaging with them), and having a high level of indifference / “so what” - the anxiety has lessened considerably. The anxiety is no longer “a big deal” just whatevs / meh. I wish everyone suffering from mental illness could find and follow your teachings ❤

Yes I agree. I slip into ‘depression’ when pain flares and I fear the future - from getting through the day to will it ever end. My mood is directly related to pain more than anything else. If I’m not distracted by pain it can be grim weather with winter darkness but if I can go a walk I’m content and grateful for what I can do. Or, I can be in pain and on holiday with great scenery and weather etc but if I can’t walk far I’m really miserable deep down.

Dan it is so true depression is deep sadness and hopelessness. The Psychiatrist diagnosis me with anxiety and depression. I told her I am not a depressed person but because of the colorful sensations and no hope in sight it has caused me to be depressed. They kept prescribing me antidepressants which I couldn’t take made me into a zombie feeling. Stopped immediately after each one. Look at me now on the Coaching Calls no longer depressed because I have so much hope! So answer I felt depressed because of no hope and deep sadness but when I found TMS/PDP hopelessness left and just sadness and now sadness gone too. I’m feeling my emotions with no judgement not fearful or ruminating anymore. It’s a label they slapped on me! Tractor 🚜 boy back! 😂

I always challenge those who talk about brain chemical imbalance being the causes of depression, anxiety, etc. I ask “What is the cause of the imbalance?” It has to be the stress, and the stress is caused by the perceived danger. I think it’s true that some babies are born with chemical imbalance and they may have the propensity to be sensitive, but that also might have been caused by his/her parent’s stress since stress chemicals are released in a mother’s body before the child is born. The baby might be swimming in the stress hormones in the womb! So I totally agree with Dan. I feel that even a genetic predisposition is a generational pattern of behaviors.

Dan you are the best!!! I watch your videos everyday and they’re so helpful. I’ve been trying to figure out if my mental health challenges are due to perceived danger. In general, I think many forms of anxiety are and depression due to anxiety is. But I’m currently dealing with emotional instability, mood swings, and near psychosis due to bipolar disorder. I’ve finally accepted it’s due to a chemical imbalance and I need medication to function at this time. I was in denial about my condition for a long time until I was almost hospitalized recently. I first learned of TMS about two years ago and have recovered from so many conditions/symptoms including severe IBS, Migraines, and endocrine issues. I’m still working on the migraines to be honest but I’ve made so much progress. I’m now doing what I want, when I want and I love my life!!! And I’m no longer spending tons of money on treatments and doctors. I use the techniques I’ve learned from your videos and the TMS world everyday. I’m so grateful for everything you do 🙏🥹

Yes, I can see I perceive mental, social and emotional dangers and that results in my anxious thoughts. I will continue to feel my emotions to learn they are safe...will try to interact more socially to relearn that's safe....but the perceived mental danger is the hard one for me. I have not had success taking my thoughts less seriously and always find things to worry about....but I can work on the other two areas to start and hopefully get to mental safety after that.

I first learned about mind/body by stumbling upon an interview with Dr Rachel Zoffness who says the same. She is a pain psychologist who has had a practice teaching mind/body syndrome treating pain. She was passionate about teaching adolescents about this. She does't use "TMS" specifically. She now teaches medical students how to treat chronic pain without using medicine. She also speaks nation wide on the topic. She feels even depression, NOT caused by pain, is neuroplastic. You might find her interviews interesting. One interview is: Dr Rachel Zoffness on the Science of Pain. (RU-vid). It's an hour long, but she speaks on the science behind it. "TMS" and treatment. I think a lot of people can't wrap their heads around this because they have "no real proof". She also speaks on structural vs. TMS and explains it very well. 🤚❤

I agree too, it’s the same way out of the mental health symptoms as it is out of back pain. Once the fear of the symptoms goes the symptoms go. When you pay no mind to the mental health systems they go away on their own because just like a pain condition it’s fueled by fear and attention.... worry, obsessing, changing normal behaviours you’d normally do, ruminating, it’s all fear based and giving power to the “problem” which doesn’t actually exist but in our own minds. I personally think mental health and pain conditions are simply signifiers that we are under stress, in a state of resistance, and it’s a warning signal to slow down. The key is to try and not react to the symptoms themselves, since they are not the problem, just our bodies way of letting us know we are stressed. The psychiatrist Bill Pettit spent decades pointing people towards their mental health by this same approach of letting go and NOT fighting your symptoms. Dan I’d like to send you some great information that may be of help to your viewers. Could I have your email? Thanks for the video

Hi Dan. I'm glad that up front you said this is my opinion and I'm simply sharing my own thoughts. As someone who has been in the mental health field for a very long time I just wanted to say Schizophrenia is not having multiple personalities as you said. That wouldn't matter if that's just your opinion or not it's the truth that the disorder of Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective disorder has nothing to do with having multiple personalities. What was once called multiple personality disorder is now called DID dissociative identity disorder. I wanted to share that with you so you could just be more aligned with what these diagnosis actually mean. I find it compelling and intriguing that you have the opinion that schizophrenia comes from traumatic childhood. I have to sit with that a little bit longer. Thanks again I've been binge watching your videos and I'm already just intuitively using some of these perspective changes.
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou Год назад
Thank you for clarifying this. I had not intended to speak about Schizophrenia. These videos begin with a topic and are a stream of consciousness talk about the topic. Sometime I delve into some things that I don't have enough knowledge on like this time. I do still believe that most mental health issues come from the brain perceiving danger. And often the amount of "right now" perceived danger is based on the level of sensitivity and vigilance a person learns through earlier life experiences.

Well I’m old. I’m of a generation that just missed the last war. We were brought up to just get on with things. Expectations were much lower. We didn’t expect holidays. We didn’t have them. Always to get more money. No one had “mental health “ issues. But we also hadn’t heard of stress. I think one of the big causes of too much inward thinking. Is the media. Too much information. And most of it negative. My husband’s mood improved when we banned newspapers. I hate labels. And mental health is one. It demeans the people who really do have issues. Need help. My daughter has bad anxiety. I help her. But she doesn’t get the help she should because Every other person has. Mental health problems. Because they aren’t taught coping strategies. I call it. Life. As our Queen said. Never give up. If you don’t let yourself be labelled. And help yourself to breeze past what you can. Using MB techniques. Lower your 21st century expectations. You probably don’t have issues. Just like us all. You get down and pissed off. Please don’t be labelled. I’m diagnosed fibromyalgia. Boy do they see you coming. And it’s the reason for EVERYTHING. Mind body has helped me. And my daughter. I don’t think we have mental health issues. Sorry long post. Just my take.

@NicoleFitnessYouTube
@NicoleFitnessYouTube Год назад
“Pushing yourself” doesn’t sound like a message of safety to your brain. Try small bites. Achievable bites. We have to reassure and hug our brains. Check in with your body - are you tense? Is your jaw clenched? Shoulders tight? If so, relax. That’s how we reassure ourselves physically. Check in with your emotions-what are you feeling? Go ahead and feel it. That communicates that emotions are safe. Check in mentally - are you noticing lots of thoughts? Let them pass - like clouds in the sky. We don’t have to believe our thoughts - they are just thoughts, not truths. Our brains are our best friends-there to protect us against anything they see as dangerous. We owe our brains the patience, love and acceptance that we give to others that we want to comfort. You will get there!! ❤

I understand where you are coming from. I grew up in extremely traumatic circumstances also. But I’ve been on this journey for a while, explored every physical & alternative modality because TMS/PDP does seem oversimplified in the context of trauma. Yet I keep coming back to Dan because I realized that the only goal that the brain is after is safety - safety in one’s self and environment. People who experience significant trauma in childhood like us don’t know what safety is or means. We were taught danger far more than safety on a subconscious level. When you understand this deeply, you stop searching for answers and “healing”. There’s nothing to heal. This is reteaching, a brain game, a fear game. You can begin to soften and accept the sensations and emotions as they are and as they come because that gets rid of tension, which is what TMS is. You can begin to take control, and you can just BE and know that everything is okay. I thought I understood this but it has REALLY started to sink in now as I get on with my life, do more things, and reject the idea that I am sick. Because we are 100% not.
@kavitadeva
@kavitadeva Год назад
@@liannevalle what a beautiful and very exhaustive definition and understanding of this process. you did a fantastic job on replying to me and explaining to me where you are coming from and where this is all coming from. I understand completely the idea of safety and how unsafe people that grew up with severe trauma we have no idea what that is at all. And I love the part about stop looking for things to heal you I have spent over 40 years going to this modality and that modality this regime, that diet acupuncture biofeedback you name it I've done it no kidding. I love that idea of just stop searching for a way to fix yourself. Now I wouldn't at this point agree that the reason I'm going to stop searching is because I'm fine because I know in reality I'm not fine and that's the part so far of things I've read about TMS that I disagree with. not everything is run by your thoughts you know, there's a lot of other things going in there that makes us ill and in pain I even heard somebody say go out and play a game of tennis because there's no reason you cannot play tennis you just think you can't play tennis to me that kind of thinking is absolutely dangerous and stupid. Can you tell me where is the best place to start to understand TMS? I would really appreciate a succinct way of understanding the total picture. At this point of the game I am bed bound and in so much pain and chronic fatigue and it's just really really serious and bad I have no life because I'm just in bed all the time with my service dog. Again thank you for such a wonderful reply and if you could tell me what to read first I'll go check it out. I saw something on this guys Channel it said go here first but you know this guy is definitely not a person that understands mental illness at all because today he said schizophrenia is from trauma. That is not a total Truth by any means. Thank you very much I hope you write me back so I can find a place to start. I'd like to know more of your story if you don't mind sharing it. Take care.
