Well what an evening session. Thought I'd try the cheb rig. Pouring with rain river going wild. Set up with a bubble gut creature bait...few casts had a perch..changed swims, broke rod tip(didn't cry...but did swear!) Quick riverside fix and carried on. Few casts in the mill pond..lots of current ,bang ! Got a take...a chub! 1st one I've ever caught. Hooked another but lost it. Got soaked...walking back to car,had last cast and was into a nice jack, about 5lb. Landed him. Got back to car,had left window open...wet seat . Home, changed,Chinese takeaway and bottle of red. Happy days! Try the cheb ..it worked for me. Thanks for taking the time to make these great videos Nick 👍👍
dspaul666 Wow! What a fantastic message to receive this evening!!! Love it when a plan comes together! Well done mate, awesome little session on the Cheb!!! 👏👏👏
After a few months of research, watching plenty of videos on youtube and buying bits of kit adhoc I finally jumped in and purchased my first ever rod and reel. First day on the bank Sunday and I bagged two small perch one on a cheb rig and the other on a jig rig. Learnt a Tonne from your channel would have really struggled without it, keep it up 👍🏻
Great videos. Very watchable, very helpful. Perhaps you have already completed it but please could you help by given a pros and cons video between drop shorting, Ned rig, Cheb rig and the Texas rig? I would be interested to hear your observations on each and when to employ them. I fish in Lakeland and would be interested to hear what’s best for clear water? Many thanks for all your work
Great video I really enjoyed it👍 This is a method that I am yet to try for a couple of reasons although I'm really keen to get stuck in as I'm doing an awful lot of drop shotting at the moment lol. One is that I want to know just how light I can go with regards to weight and hook size for waters with pike such as in canals and smaller lodges and lakes " I don't want to get bitten off". The other is that if there are pike present and I still want to fish smaller hooks and weights is what trace to use. I'm really conscious about having to use a trace and types of trace on jigs, cheb rigs, and hard baits. Tight Lines 👍
Love watching your vids ! learnt more about lure fishing these past weeks or so than i have in the last 50 years lol Been to Bordon Angling today and spent my £175 in vouchers that I won all on lure fishing inc a new snapper rod 10/30 grams xxxx
That is a really good tip threading a loop through the cheburashka, I'm definitely going to do that. I was wondering why I wasn't really getting very many takes when the cheburashka was on a line clip, and I'm convinced it was effecting the action of the lure
Very good channel. There are quite a few perch and BFS channels popping up, but mostly by excellent anglers with dodgy video production skills. You seem to be good in both! I also find very few angling channels offer guidance on how to play a fish to the landing net, especially on light tackle. Could you include some of that in future videos?
Ben Price thanks for your kind feedback. Another perch video drops next week and I hope the production is improving with each release. I have a bit of background in video which helps! Great that you’ve suggested a topic to cover, and it’s a good one. I’m currently covering lure rigs (next is jigging then ned rigs) but will consider it once they’re done. Thanks again mate! 👍🎣
@@Lifeonthebank yes mate i agree. tens to be lucky here in south wales though, as we dont seem to have such a weed problem. or maybe its just me lol. keep up the great work mate :)
Here in Sweden I've been using the cheb rig attached to a small "fastach" clip for a couple years (for quick lure swapping). The loop trick looks great, although my experince is that the weight will tend to want to slide off the pin if the fit isn't tight enough, because often when I inspect the lure after a cast the weight has slid up pushing against the clip. This makes me hesitant to try without the clip or some kind of stopper..
This has now happened to me since making the video. Only a couple of times but enough to stop me using the loop! I have found that my 10lb leader creates a big enough knot to stop this happening. I sometimes step up to 10lb if there’s an outside chance of a Jack. If I use 6lb leader I now use a clip. 👍👍👍
- Great informative vid mate. I look forward to the carp on maggots vid. I’ve been using those leads for a while now they’re great. I’ve also tried using them as the bottom of a drop shot rig and running a bottom hooklength off them with an isome. All the best and tight lines. Subbed up. 👍🏻🎣
The Fish Locker Workshop thank you mate. Finding my feet with this stuff atm but I think people like the ‘information’. I don’t claim to know it all but keen to share what I do know!!! Cheers!
It's a really good idea to use a quick change snap link instead of a loop in the main line, since the fish could push the lead off the bent wire and cut your line.
You do make a very good point, the weight sliding up the line when your playing a fish. I’ve not had any issues until now but will definitely watch out for this. I guess it could happen. 👍👍🎣
A got a rig for ya to try matey, Tokyo rig. Wether you have a silty bottom or rocky one (hmm may need the Doctor for the 1st 😂) the Tokyo will make either a cloud or noise as it is worked along the bottom. My change up rig when nothing is happening and I ready to call it quits for the day.
I love your videos ! I am currently fishing with 10lb braid and use wire traces as throwing around jigs I pick up a few pike. can I tie a length of fluorocarbon onto my braid mainline? if so what knot should I use to attach the two and what breaking strain/brand of fluorocarbon should I use? sorry to ask so many questions just wanting to do the finesse style fishing and seems no one does that with a wire trace. cheers mate for reading and I hope to see more perching soon, Dan
Hi great videos, very informative. I’ve learnt a lot from you. My question is if you were going out perch fishing and had to decide on one rig, which one would you choose i.e. Jed, cheb, jigging or drop shot . What would be you favourite
People use snaps with cheburashka's because sometimes when you hook fish the weight comes lose and can damage thin leaders. Especialy for ultralight/light perch fishing. Happened to me once also.
I never thought of that tbh. Never happened to me, but I definitely wouldn’t want the weight to fly up the line and leave me playing a fish on an open clip! Definitely something to think about! 🤔
Found this and the ned rig one really useful -will check out the others , on those Z Man buoyant lures , would mounting them on a light wire hook with a running weight on the line work? ie -like the marker float set up , so the lure can float up , and then be worked down through the water column -if they are buoyant enough for that of course .
Nice video, really well put together and excellently presented. I’m just venturing into bfs and lite lure fishing for perch on my channel...... with the 4” do you find you still catch the smaller perch? All the best guy
the occasional angler yes occasionally but I do think it detracts the wasps. Be warned, pike love the bigger ones, I step up my leader to 10lb. Be lucky. Love the channel! 👍
You are awesome ..I learned a lot from you.I have a question:The cheb rig you fish it exactly like the normal jig heads???Is the same retrieving metod???Thank you
Black piranha just spoke to them. It’s offline until Friday due to Xmas demand. A load of new lures going up then! Thanks for kind comments about the vid!!! 👍👍👍
@@Lifeonthebank No I just started lure fishing with set up as yours , just at the moment not detecting bites too well unless the fish ( perch) has probably hooked itself . Need more practice
Hi Nick, what size of Cheb weights are you using on the Lea.... Oh and don't ignore New River , I've had perch over 4lb from stretches where it's only 8ft wide .
Never heard of this Cheb rig until l watched this video but have used these small imitation crayfish and worms etc when targeting Perch and Chub, when l started lure fishing you had plugs spoons and spinners (many many years ago) l have seen a huge change in lure fishing and a massive upsurge in popularity, when l started club anglers that where on the banks in winter used to look at you a bit strangely because you were spinning for Pike and not sitting about watching a livebait under a bung!
clooper man yeah, we’ve been influenced massively by the Bass anglers in the USA. It’s become much more advanced and technical. I too remember when it was either plugs or spoons and that was it! 😂👍🎣
I didn’t say the rig came from the USA. I said that our perch fishing is influenced by them, and of course this is a popular rig used by them (amongst others).
There you go mate ... www.anglingdirect.co.uk/spro-freestyle-recon-backpack?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsrWW85CC6gIVwevtCh2_nwdhEAUYASABEgJGsfD_BwE Thanks for watching!!! 👍🎣
You can do the same with a clip, surely using a loop knot u run the risk when the fish pulls that loop ends up inside the weight when it pulls on the wire, at least with the clip that won't happen ?
Yeah, I have now moved away from the loop. I had an occurrence where the weight did travel up the line when I hooked a fish. I landed the fish and it only happened once but it was enough to make me switch. This vid was from over a year ago. Maybe check out the more recent ones. You made a good point / comment. Thanks! 👍
Usually bounced on the bottom for me mate but you can very the speed. Some creature baits have quite thin appendages. These can be fished up in the water. The CrazyFish Nimble is an example of this. 👍
Trying it out for the first time this year. Going to fish on a small river with perch, trout, pike, barbel and roach. I bought 3,5 and 7 grams. I hope it is enough for a relatively easy flowing river?
Watched the video 3 times now 🤣 if was to use a 3g cheb head what size hook would i need as I have said before new to predator fishing so its all a absouslte mine field 😀
Great video Nick, subbed to the channel. It's inspired me target the perch on my local canal & river. Are there any rods that you use/recommend for fishing the cheb, ned rig etc?
Korum have a decent range of rods perfect if you'e just getting into it. Check out their Snapper range of finesse rods - includes a great video to help you choose, www.korum.co.uk/products/rods/snapper-finesse-jig-rods
DPfishing thanks. My first video was a bit self indulgent 😂 Wanted to start actually giving out content that might be useful to someone! Hey, I watched your Norfolk boards video yesterday! Superb! 👍👌
I'm not trying to be critical as I say your videos are some of the best on utube for technical content but I have to watch with the remote close by as it can be annoying when the backing music comes on halfway through a vid twice as loud as your voice. But keep up the good work, great vids and keep em coming 👍
Could only watch half the video before I muted it, you need to sort out your audio levels. Every time you stop talking the music levels get increased a silly amount. Before I muted it the content was great.
Really appreciate the feedback. Was one of earlier videos where I used something called ‘auto ducking’ on the sound track. I do it manually now. Maybe check out one of my more recent vids and let me know if you feel the same. Appreciate all feedback- good and bad so thanks 🙏 👍🎣
Devils advocate here: do you really think that the high priced brand soft plastics work any better than some silicone sealant strands fished in the same way? It would move and feel the same, and although we humans can can see the difference in the detail, colour and shape, fish are not exactly the smartest species on the evolutionary ladder: they have to take a nibble to investigate whatever it is to assess its food value. If it's good they eat it, if it's not they spit it out - but there's a hook in it - too late: gotcha. It would be interesting to see this theory put to the test in a video sometime. Think about it. Regards. Raymondo.
I actually think that perch are smarter than you think. They wise up to lures quite quickly. I think the bigger brands recognise this and work hard to evolve what they’re doing to innovate new materials, colour combinations, swimming action etc etc. Yes you can buy cheaper but they’re not always the brands that are pushing things forward, often producing cheap copies. Will a perch hit both lures? Yes probably, but I choose to support innovation. The subject would make a good video though! 😉👍
