I don’t think he did reciprocate the hug bc like the awkward middle school boy he is, he just stood their awkwardly. However, in the trailer there’s another percabeth hug and he does indeed hug her back this time and I think that’s really cute actually. He’s slowly developing awareness😭😭

I think Percy stood there awkwardly… he’s never really had a friend especially a friend who’s a girl… and all his bullies have been girls. And also he was all dripping wet so I feel like he would have also felt bad about hugging her with his soggy flannel arms, especially with how he reacted to his mom hugging him after being in the rain in episode 1. Also I loved the portrayal of Ares… he was funny and scary and unhinged and angry and pathetic all at once. Loved how Grover manipulated information out of him. Also Ares’s giant leather coat was epic

The scene with percy on the throne was so poetic🥺 the way annabeth is crying for him to get up, the way the gold envelops him as percy slowly starts realising and the panicked tears in his eyes but he’s trying to keep himself calm, and using his ‘dying breaths’ to reassure annabeth with a smile that he was “okay…..im okay…im” before being cut off by death. I was a little disappointed that percy came back ngl lol before i realised there are four more books to his name and that he was in five more books after that 😂

He didn't hug her back and that makes sense, because she was the first girl who hugged him and he was surprised by it, but he did smile a little and it was adorable!!! Also Grover senses he will be a third wheel in a 4 years situationship and I love it lol

Spoiler: The fates cutting the string signifies the death of luke. Also in the graphic novel the fates are seen carrying lukes body to afterlife or somewhere after he died.

There's a lot I could say but I'll just say as a non-book reader, the show is very good and has convinced me to download the audiobooks for my drive from KC to Vancouver in February. I know some spoilers from an big screen occurance that shall not be named (the prephecy referring to Luke as the betrail from one called friend, Luke as the lightning thief, Kronos as the big bad), but it's so much better seeing how it actually develops with a scheming Ares pulling strings.

I could imagine Grover framing Clarisse as the thief, them telling it to Luke in the next episode, so giving him more time to plan, while also creating more tension between the characters for SoM and using that as a reason for Clarisse to go on her quest alone

The actor for hephestus has a disability. he also recently had a stroke that affected his speech pattern. he is first of all a well known and really great actor but i think that was also one of the reasons why he was drawn to play the character. these are "imperfections" people see in real life and they, just like hera did kinda turn away or deem ugly. its why the casting probably fit to rick

I see your point about the actor for the big H, but I think especially after seeing how amazing Leah is we've moved past actors having to look like their book counterparts

I agree with your point about Hephaestus not being used that well, especially with the tunnel scene and the images on the wall, if you don't know that myth story I highly doubt it would be clear why he is the way he is. I've been wondering how useful this show is at teaching kids about greek mythology cause I feel like I would be confused as to their hierarchy, who's the god of what, the relationships among the gods, etc. Like, based on the show with no prior knowledge, my wife had NO clue who Hephaestus was and what was going on with the glowing images until she got to that point in the book the day after. The books were like a gateway to teach kids some greek mythology so they would learn more about it if they were interested, I feel like the show is moreso a gateway to the books rather than pulling its own weight to be its own thing in a way. I see the shows and books as their own things, just more of a thing/IP that i love, but they need to take advantage of the medium they're using, like the HP movies compared to the books were how they were still so popular and successful.

I really love that the show is treating the gods as a family. In the books, its always easy to forget theyre all closely related. But the show is showing a much more dynamic relationship between them....and its really quite toxic. Im not saying that toxic families are good, just that it humanizes the gods. And i think the relatability of greek mythology is part of its appeal. Sometimes it seems like everyone i talk to comes from an effed up family. The gods arent high and mighty, theyre just as bad as the worst people. And it makes lukes arc and the other demogods that joined him that much more believable.

I think the string being cut isn't LITERALLY that someone's going to die, but that someone's fate is SEALED (which usually happens when they die, hence the assumption that it means someone's going to die)

I understand your perspective on Hephaestus, but I disagree! I really loved Annabeth’s speech and how it all tied up. 34:32 I believe they are setting up a Red Herring! I believe he is either going to say Clarisse or some child of Athena! Definitely won’t be Luke, because Luke you said, we don’t even suspect him until the reveal! I have faith in this show. 💙

Percabeth in this episode had me squealing and laughing the whole time. The meaning for the fates cutting the string appears in the last book and the string was apparently Luke's lifeline.

When the Fates were there when they cut the string it was Luke's life support in the last book where he died

I think the reason they did the fates scene in this episode was used to foreshadow Percy’s ‘death’ later in the episode. One thing I have noticed rereading the book after quite a few years is this attribute of fate and prophecy is never, maybe as final as it seems. Like that you can choose what you do with the hand you’re dealt

I see other people explained the three Fates cutting the thread already so I'm just gonna point out that Annabeth being the one to see it here instead of Percy... great change but a painful one

This episode probably diverged the furthest from the source, but it still managed to do it in ways that came off as fitting into the universe and the plot in ways that were source-appropriate.

I also don’t like the way they made Hephesteaus look like a victim. Especially if you considered the way him and Aphrodite got together in the first place, she was forced into marrying him? He’s very bitter and he did try to humiliate Aphrodite and Ares at every chance he got.

So I just watched all 5 episodes of the series so far and something felt off. So then I reread the first book. And now I’m kinda annoyed. So here’s my thing I, do like the casting, the fighting, monsters and the acting. But the only two things I don’t like is how less tense it is in the show then the book. Like gabbe in the show is a bumb. In the book, he was a bum, abusive, and a bully. Like there’s a quote from the book “I don’t know when but gabbe had hit my mom”. Or like when Percy mentions Zeus name a few times, the camp is over run with rain and thunder clouds. Like you really can’t mention a gods or a monsters name. And no matter what you can’t use phones and stuff like that. It just everything that’s supposed to be mentioned with such intensity in the book it just introduce so causally. Like in the show they don’t really explain what each god does when they introduce a new god. In the book when they showed Mr. D they had Percy figure it out. And no matter what god it was, they created an aura, glowing eyes, a growl, or the environment around them rumbled to show they should be feared. Same with the 3 fates. No intensity, just mentioning them casually. They teased more with who Thalia grace is, who was on the quest with her, how much alike her and Percy are, and her being a part of the big 3. They teased about it through out the book. It was like one of those things you don’t talk about like Jason Todd’s death from Batman. But they just mentioned her name and who she was just so casually. The second thing I don’t like is how fast moving. Because there are things they do skip over, like Chiron as Percy’s teacher wasn’t just his teacher. He was his father figure. Like Alaric saltzman and hope from legacies. In the first few chapters we focused on that. It’s emotional because he has very little in his life that makes him happy. They stretched out Percy meeting Annabeth in the book when she was showing around camp. It just it feels really rushed and casual . Like the vibe I got from just reading the book again was the same kinda vibe in between watching Harry Potter and sorcerers stone through watching Harry Potter prisoner of Azkaban. Not too creepy, but magical, crappy life, adventurous, and so much focus on emotional bonds. Just instead of wizards you have Demi gods. So I kinda like the show but I also want them to put more depth into certain relationships. And more mystery with intensity.

It was incredible I watched as soon as it came out on Disney. 9:00 I was already on the couch, remote in hand. The next episode is coming on my moms birthday. And on of them comes out three day before my B day

I love your review as always, but it got me thinking about a theory. If Annabeth had never seen a movie before, why did she have all those memories of watching old films with her dad in Mark of Athena? I think she and her dad started watching movies together as a way for him to make it up to her for being a terrible dad when she was little. Idk if it will come up later but it's something I remembered from MoA

Percy realize in book 5 that the string was Luke’s. He realizes that everything was planned before he even got to camp. The string was cut when Percy ditched Grover on the bus to New York City.

It looked like he was just standing there awkwardly xD i wanted Percy and Grover to hug as well, in the book they do! I enjoyed this episode as well, but i also have a few points of criticism. I feel like Grover was a bit off-character this episode. Book 1 and 2 Grover is really anxious and I couldn’t imagine him being this confident and brave around the god of war (like he is in this ep). I like the trap in the tunnel of love in the show way better than the one in the books. In the books it was kind of on a childish level. I agree, it feels off that Percy is explaining the myths to Annabeth. I really appreciate your criticism on how they didn’t even try to get the shield on an other way. Sometimes the writing is a bit weird and fast paced and the dialogue’s seem kinda stiff (or stiffy? Idk how to say that).

SPOILER ALERT: 🚨 LAST OLYMPIAN The yarn cut is Luke, in the Last Olympian, Annabeth helped luke get kronos’s soul out of Luke’s body by reminding him of their friendship, and the only way to defeat Kronos was to use the cursed scyth (I think it spelled like that) that will take the soul of whoever gets stabbed by it, and Luke stabbed himself in his weak spot from the curse of Achilles to save everyone. So in the end, Luke was a hero. (Also random thing when I write Luke my next suggestion is immediately Castellan which is funny)

Just thinking out loud here, i heard someone on tik tok say, who is also a big fan of the show + books, that the string the Faiths cut, is Luke's lifeline, but i don't know for sure if that is true

I think Disney and Rick Riordan will use "The Gods" more times than they appear in the Books, for example Hephaestus and Hermes don't even appear in the first book, "The Lightning Thief", but they appear in the show, I'm very excited to see the what they can do in the second season, I think this second season has the potential to be even better than the first season😁

this is so random but when I was watching episode 5 I realized the fates were wearing Crocs 💀 I love this show but its fs not gonna be as timeless as I thought. But definitely no hate to the show bc ik a lot of media is modernizing stuff now ( the Mean Girls musical etc.)

I feel that hephaestus is much better because he was the only god as far as i remember who came to meet calypso and actually cared.

This episode was our favorite so far but we have mixed feelings on Hephaestus, we see what the show is trying to do in making the gods more unlikable and more like the original Greek myths and it's cool and interesting but Hephaestus was always the one with a little more perspective because he's been an outcast, it's why he looked after Calypso, and it was solely because of his appearance. Hephaestus was cruel to the other gods but he was mostly pretty aloof to humans and demigods, even having a soft spot for them (though he didn't particularly *like* anyone that wasn't one of his creations lol). Making him traditionally good looking and only slightly nicer than the other gods really takes away his entire character, if he's not ugly then why was he rejected by Aphrodite? Why do the other gods treat him so poorly? It all just kinda falls apart. All that said we did really enjoy the performance and like him for what he is in the show.

How did Percy get unpoisoned? Is it because the water in the river is different or?? And i have an other stupid question: Back in episode 3 the body of Medusa didn’t dissolve like the other bodies of monsters do, why is that? I heard that Medusa technically is a (cursed) human. Celestial bronze wouldn’t kill a human. It’s not the first time, she got killed. In the myths she gets beheaded by Perseus as well..

this show sucks
