This past couple months have been some of the most fun reading all year for me. In no small part due to this book. It is dark, dirty and gritty. It is high-minded fantasy of amazing non-human beings. It is love, loss, punishment and triumph. Check my style and get the book :)

That picture of Mieville on the back really suprised me! I've read The City and The City and October but I've never seen a picture of him and that was not at all how I had pictured him in my mind hahaha

I would love to find Perdido Street Station for sale around here. Thoroughly enjoyed The City and the City (hated King Rat though), so I am interested in reading another strong book by him. When his writing is good it's DARN good. I hear his most recent novellas are weak--as you implied--so I hope he is working on some solid fiction right now.

This Book needs a well done show or movies. I can see someone like Peter Jackson or Guillermo del toro taking this on.. with about a 150 million dollar budget. would be amazing

It's my favourite "trilogy" ever. Every day I think about this or the other two in some capacity. Today the 2nd is my favourite, but that changes all the time. I'd do anything for more writing in this world. I also think you should read this census taker again after you read all three of these Bas Lag books. I think it might treat you. It's my 2nd favourite thing he's done after this trilogy, but each to there own. So glad you liked this!

Not enough booktubers talk China Miéville. He's vastly under-read it seems. Perdido Street Station is one myvall time favorite books.

Embassytown I started a while back but couldn't get into it or just wasn't ready for it at the time maybe so ill revisit that at some point. Have you read Iron Council or the Scar yet?

Wow. Just listening to the plot summary I can get a sense of how imaginative this work must be. Would you say it’s purely fantasy (no scientific explanation) or is there an element of SF (some science)?

Perhaps, it sure is crazy! I have not read any bizarro fiction exactly, the Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer is probably the thing that I've read that is closest to whatever genre this is 😝 thanks brother!

Yeah I'm going to have to read this one.. there is so much going on that even after your 11 minutes of review I have so many questions. How in the hell is this author even human lol it's like sci-fi and fantasy meets horror and social commentary all at the same time. Great review Noah as always
