Perdigon flies are pretty simple flies to tie, yet very effective. They are tied on jig hooks with tungsten slotted beads to make it swim hook point up. They get hung up on the bottom less often, and also are very heavy and sink quickly. Great flies for fishing euro nymphing style, yet also work great as a lead fly to get other smaller flies down. Best of all, most perdigon flies can be tied very quickly, and therefor you can bust out 15-20 of them in an hour and fill a box in an afternoon.

Hi there and greetings from the land of the Perdigón! An interesting tying and please permit me to make a couple of comments, which may make your tutorials a little different in their construction. The more bulk or volume there is to a Perdigón, the slower it falls through the water column, consequently, they are tied a lot slimmer here, to get down to the fish quicker. A jig hook, also the raised bead on a straight hook, is primarily used to invert the fly and thus minimise the fly getting caught up on the river bed. I am not an entomologist, but I think a river nymph rarely swims on its back, with its wing sack underneath? Adding a wing sack on a perdigón is becoming less and less and, to be honest, the trout do not seem to mind! Some tiers are adding a black thread collar instead, as a contrast - obviously not on a black bodied Perdigón! ☺️ I have made these comments to other tiers; they are not meant to be disrespectful, but meant to be beneficial and in no way diminish the quality of your fly tying. Tight lines.👍

Man u make tying look so easy and good. This is a great looking fly that dont look like its hard at all. Im still tryin to get some of the bait fish patterns u tie that im trying to look remotely close to urs lol. Puttin the eyes on and straight really sucks lol. But none the less as always bud great job!!

I had the point break on a Risen hook after hooking a 6" brown. Firehole sells hooks for 7.25 and there are 36 is which is only a dollar more for 25 hooks, why don't you use more of those?

I do, Firehole makes great hooks. However I have had a few bend on me, and I’ve had customers have some bend. Never had a risen hook bend or break. But I do use a wide range of hooks from a wide range of manufacturers. With my discount though to risen (which you can use) it definitely makes the hooks much more affordable. $4 for 25 (pre discount) , vs $8 or so for 36…. With the 15% off on risen stuff, it’s hard to beat the prices especially with such quality gear

I actually lately have been using the scissors from risen fly. Depending on the fly, I use their spring scissors, the standard 4”, the razor scissors, and the hair scissors that are 4.5” for larger flies.
