Pere Marquette #1225 is a 2-8-4 Berkshire built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. The locomotive hauled mostly fast freight trains in the Midwest United States until being retired ten years later. It was restored back to operating condition in 1985 and has operated extensively throughout the state of Michigan, owned by the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan.
In the years 2018 and 2019, I was able to take two trips to Michigan and visit the iconic steam engine that hauled two separate excursions. First, we head into the rain with the 1225 leading the Curwood Highlander on October 20th, 2018. We caught the locomotive at the Robbin's Fitness Center on Main Street in downtown Owosso, before heading off to the Carland Elevator in Elsie, Michigan. The weather had turned to a mix of snow and rain, but we were still satisfied of our videos.
Next, we return to Owosso on December 21st, 2019 for the North Pole Express. The locomotive was wearing a C&O 3 chime secondary whistle that was off of a C&O Hudson. We captured many up-close shots of the engine at the Steam Railroading Institute before heading off to the Robbin's Fitness Center and the Carland Elevator once more with much better weather that the previous excursion. These two trips were unforgettable and I hope to return to the home of the 1225 in the near future. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy!
