On October 5th, 2019, we find ourselves in central Michigan to chase Pere Marquette #1225, a Lima Locomotive Works, 2-8-4 Berkshire. She is one of only two currently operating in North America and is the oldest surviving Berkshire.
2019 brings the 1225 north, running rare mileage from Mt. Pleasant to Cadillac, Michigan on the "Cadillac Limited," a 10 car excursion with no diesel assistance. This is also 1225's first run with newly equipped roller bearings on pilot, trailing, and tender trucks.
We first see 1225 right around 06:45, the crack of dawn as she makes her early deadhead to Mt. Pleasant. From there we chase the train all day to Cadillac and return.

I recognize the place where the 1225 stops at 15:00. There's another video regarding the 1225 coming back from a Clare excursion where it stops at that place for food and drinks for the crew and passengers. The employees actually appreciated the train stopping there for nourishment so they could get some photos of the historical locomotive.

1 thing I just can't stop scratching my head about is why on the second half of the trip when 1225 was on one end of the train the cabooses were put on the other side of the train where 1225 pulled it for the first half of the journey.

When is 1225 gonna do her next multi-state excursion? she’s a heritage unit for Pete sake! And also does the steam railroading institute have an observation car?

I have a question: in the description, it says that 1225 is the oldest surviving berkshire. If that's so, then when was 1223 built? Otherwise, great video, EJ!

1941. Technically the '23 and '25 are the same age since they rolled out of Lima the same day.

Nice video. I recognize most of the locations (I was also filming on the Mission road bridge) but am curious about the hillside shot at 11:28?
