Brill video, thanks for that. I've been listening to your podcasts too, giving me lots of new ideas!!! Glad i found you :) May i ask roughly what area of uk you are in? I'm north west england so conditions different to a lot of other people RU-vid's I am following!

Amy Woods thank you for your kind words! I’m southwest Uk, so our frost dates will likely be a week or two apart. I do, however, live in a frost pocket so I get hit with frosts that people just 1/2 mile away avoid!

Northeast Ohio, USA here. We call the spring onions “scallions”. I LOVE these onions too! They even tolerate our cold winters. Our first harvest in the Spring. Yes! I have a patch of them that I call “the Mother onions” to keep for bulbuls and bigger onions. Then I have a patch for cutting. I cut them right down into the soul and bring in enough for food prep and to keep a good size jar of chopped onions ready in the fridge. Those plants will regrow the tender greens while the mother plants are making babies. Every year I find more ways to extend the eating time of these fabulous onions. Oh! The cut ones multiply at the base too😂! They just keep giving! Thanks for your informative enthusiastic video! 🎉🎉🎉

My favourite plant in the garden. Had them for a year and been eating the greens the whole time. Now they’re sprouting out the top like crazy. THE BEST!

I had a clump of EWO’s start last year right outside of my flower bed. They were smallish plants and this year they are about 40” tall. They smell amazing. I have to put a fence around even flower beds because of the deer so I decided to keep the edges neat by edging the fence with walking onions, rhubarb and comfrey. I already have rhubarb and walking onions together and they look so nice together. The rhubarb gets huge because I’m always watering the flower bed. Im like you in that I will eliminate buying store onions once I get enough EWO’s. The deer don’t touch any of the plants right outside the flower beds so this will save space in my veg garden. I love perennial garden foods!!

Awesome video. I am so excited! We finally got our first Egyptian walking onions recently. Put them in pots for now. Doing well. They were sold out everywhere! A friend of mine recommended Etsy for things like that. Found them right away, at a fair price. We started our new Food forest project, and are about to put these in. Your video is motivating. Thank you.

I love these things. I've been planting them for years, & i put them in any bed or place that needs texture + free onions forever! I have people that walk by & just love them, bcuz they make curly-q's & look interesting. I can plant them at any time, & they will even grow in shade, yet aren't invasive. 🌿😊

We planted just a few of these in the fall of 2019 and then we were out of town most of 2020 in isolation in the country. We just came back this spring to find the walking onions in big clumps and bulbets growing like crazy. I definitely like them and will expand our growth in town and in the country but I won't be replacing regular annual (technically biannual) onions because these don't appear to make large onion bulbs that are so good for slicing, etc. Definitely worth growing. More important, your channel is definitely worth watching. Very well done videos. Thanks.

I met you on NSC yesterday! I listened to the podcast, enjoyed it, and found you on here as well. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate the content. You asked for feedback as well so here it is. You should have your podcast and any social media links on every RU-vid video in the description. You can set that up very easily in creator studio so you don't actually have to do it every time. On the podcast, I think you should re-record your intro and segment breaks. They sound like lesser sound quality than your 'main' content. Maybe you upgraded microphones since you recorded them? Anyways, those are just a couple small tweaks that I would make to improve the quality. Content wise, just keep it up. The vids and podcast are both very good. I have so many walking onions at my house planted from just a couple originals.

Hi Andrew, thanks so much for the feedback, it’s super generous of you to have taken the time. I will certainly be doing the link stuff you mention, and I actually re-recorded the intros etc two days ago! I keep a few shows in the can at all times so there is a week or so lag between recording and releasing so they might not be out till next week. Thanks again and so glad you are enjoying the content!

The vigour that I have heard the top onion demonstrates, I would take as a threat. That doesn't mean I will not obtain and grow them! I merely feel that they are so exceptionally vigorous as to present a threat if allowed to grow out of control. As an unemployed recluse living in my parents' second home I kinda need any excuse I can get to get out of the house and I wonder if a plant vigorous enough to have invasive potential, but tame enough to be easily controlled with a fork, would be that excuse.

Hi.Can you help me please where can I ordered this onion bulbs?
@AcornHillHomestead
@AcornHillHomestead Год назад
I got mine from Etsy. I got them early in the spring season and the the bulbils were a bit papery. I forgot a couple in the fridge the first year and so I planted them the year I discovered them. They came up just fine. Ive grown the in pots and in the ground. I don’t babysit mine but the ones nearest the flowers are about 40” tall in 2 seasons and a thick clump. The bigger bulbs in the earth smell like a cross between shallots and onions and have a little tinge of red. They are heavenly smelling. I haven’t eaten the top bulbils yet.
