This is a small detail, but it always makes me cry- the narration by Hiccup at the end ('There were dragons when I was a boy...') is actually a word-for-word copy of the opening lines of the book series that the movies are based off, where a much older Hiccup has written down the adventures he got up to as a young boy, when dragons were still around. Its a really nice reference and it always makes me sentimental.

I'm pretty sure it's only a head-canon, but I've seen the idea that Toothless also gets a speed boost when doing that. This would be similar to the Skrill's canon "Riding Lightning" ability seen in Dragons: Race to the Edge, season 2 episode 11. So not teleportation, just traveling much faster than he can in normal flight. Even if it not canon, it's a fun idea.

Hard to notice fact: @ 19:56 When Astrid brings up, "You've tried this once before, he didn't want it" as Hiccup is building a new self controlled tailfin for Toothless, it's actually a reference. Back in 2011, a Holiday short was released on DVD called *Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury* where for Berk's version of Christmas called Snoggletog, all dragons fly away leaving a flightless Toothless alone. And so Hiccup creates a new tailfin for Toothless so he could fly away on his own. And for the final day of the holiday, Toothless begged Hiccup for his old tailfin so they could fly together, and destroyed his self controlled tailfin. Just a fun fact not everyone will catch. ☺️🫶🏻

First we get Drago who lost a limb and decided to train dragons with fear, power, and control, while Hiccup, who also lost a limb, trained dragons with love, compassion, and understanding. Then we get Grimmel, who did the exact opposite to Hiccup and killed a Night Fury when he was young, and went on to slaughter every single Night Fury. These two villains are both possible paths Hiccup could've end up on, like in a "What if..." universe.

In the first movie the nightfury was described as being the spawn of lightning and death itself, if i remember correctly. He hasn't been able to use the lightning ability with Hiccup on his back this whole time, so it makes sense. I guess the dragon skin armor made Hiccup immune this time?

Or it could have something to do with his age like the back scales he didn't even know he had until the second movie, that hiccups mum brought out. She says that toothless is a teenager just like hiccup, so it's fair to say that he's probably just figuring things out with time, especially since all the other night fury's have been killed so he can't learn from fellow night fury's. 🤷‍♀️

This trilogy is definitely going down as a classic. The fact that everyone is already saying that now is just a tell. It honestly sets a standard for future animation that I think no other studio is even capable in following suit of. Every property of this franchise through to the last Christmas special has top notch quality control, like they actually cared about the content of this franchise and the story it tells rather than purely how much money it would make. They actually accepted the principle of “If the quality is there the money will come”, and it worked perfectly. Every show and special is also an absolute treasure trove of character world building content that makes the world feel more full and rich, as well as the characters. A once in a lifetime franchise no doubt.

It read "The unholy offspring of *lighting* and *death* itself." it's very cleverly implied that Nightfuries have a connection with lightning this is also because they are semi-related to Skrills who are entirely powered up by lightning and can even shoot breaths of lightning as well. Also there was a cut story line that Mason would have hated then where Drago was going to show up with his own dragon to help Hiccup defeat Grimmel and with a deep appreciation for dragons as his that he was riding saved his life.

39:35... It is interesting you bring up villains because the 2nd and 3rd movies had one main villain (with secondary ones), but the villain in the first movie was everyone but Hiccup. Even Toothless was the villain. But after each act, the villains became allies. Toothless and Hiccup bonded, Astrid and Hiccup bonded, his friends went along with it, and then finally Hiccup and his father bonded. By the end of the 1st movie and the start of the 2nd one, all of the villains were external to his clan.

A Little Fact: The little glowing dragons flying beside Astrid and Hiccup when they entered the hidden World weren't Babies. They are called "Fireworms” and are the smallest kind of dragons. They only become 25-30 centimeters tall. The only exception, is the Queen. She is the leader and the mother of the fireworms and is a lot taller, around 11 meters/36 feet. They prefer living in caves, in a beehive like system, and they defend themselves through heat their bodies to extremely high temperatures so that no one can approach them. The Queen also can inject a deadly venom through her tongue and has a high level of intelligence. They are also one of the few dragon species that also glow outside the hidden world. The closer they are to a conspecific, the brighter they shine.

As I saw some other comments say, I highly recommend watching Riders of Berk (Peacock), Defenders of Berk (Peacock), and Race to the Edge (Netflix). They fill the gap in between HTTYD 1 and 2 with Riders/Defenders taking place shortly after 1 and RTTE a year before 2. I would say just go straight to RTTE cause that's the really good stuff, but there are characters and backstories that you need to know from Riders/Defenders.

Personally, I absolutely despise the third movie because they spent two movies, multiple specials, and several series building up this bond of "When we work together we can do anything" with Hiccup and Toothless. But then we hit the last movie and it's just "haha lol hornieee dragons" and 100% forced the ending to play on nostalgia factor for the book readers. The media and the book series are barely the same thing in the first place! They don't even follow the same storyline. And this ending comes so far out of left field it's hard to comprehend. Toothless looses all of the balance that made him so cool. He doesn't switch between the horrific threat and gentle cat anymore, he's just a dumb horny dog. He's always been standoffish, loyal and intelligent. Toothless in the last movie is basically an entirely different dragon. Hiccup seems to think he's the only character with a brain (completely ignoring everything the rest of the series built up for the other characters and making them background characters instead of secondary MCs like they always were) but also makes genuinely stupid decisions. They know that people are coming to attack them and remove their biggest asset? And, they've abandoned their old home where they have defenses set up and knowledge of the terrain? They literally have nothing to defend themselves without the dragons. It's literally so stupid it's frustrating. That's not even mentioning the repercussions of releasing domesticated dragons. It's the exact same thing as releasing domesticated pets into the wild. There is no way Toothless's tail would keep working. He is a disabled creature who, realistically, would die without the prosthetic. He's also the King of Dragons so obviously he's going to get into fights with aggressive dragons. It would 100% break. And this all isn't even taking into account the whole thing about *all* the dragons going to the hidden world. There would be a slaughter, which would turn into starvation and plague for the remainder. There are confirmed dragon cannibals in the world like the Deathsong. They. Would. All. Die. And the lightfury is completely different from literally all the previous dragons. If the books were really important enough to force this ending, they could have at least made a dragon that fit in the world. Dragons are meant to be hideous and scaly and spikey in this world. Not soft, round and sparkly? It pisses me off more because the people in charge wanted to "avoid making her look scarred" when doing her markings because she was supposed to be the epitome of "feminine". Hello??? Girls have scars too? Stormfly AND Meatlug are both female? Astrid is a BAMF and Ruffnut is just as insane as her brother? Yea it's okay to be feminine, but for them to make such a deep line in the sand when absolutely none of the other media did? Sorry for the buzzword but it's incredibly sexist. I loved everything about HTTYD before this movie. I desperately wish they'd gone with the original idea of bringing back Drago as the antag because Grimmel simply just... doesn't work. They already did this "smart as Hiccup" villain with Vigo and they did it so much better. It is partially because it was a series rather than a movie, so they had the time to build up the threat that Vigo posed, as well as the mystery. Grimmel feels like a lazy toss in because there's no time to feel his threat. He's just there and supposed to be smarter than Hiccup, but most of his victories happened because of luck. (Again, destroyed any development of the secondary MCs too, Ruffnut has been captured in the past and didn't make the idiotic decision to go home immediately back then because she understood that she might be followed) Again, I wish it had been Drago as the antag. Having a "smart" villain, especially when your MC is also "smart" realistically needs the spacing of an episodic series. It would have been much more impactful for the villain's main trait to be "brutal" or "cruel ". Hiccup is smart. But smarts don't hold up well when you go against someone who is irrational and furious. Hiccup could have gone on a whole journey of learning how to think outside the box. He could have learned to break away from his careful planning and trust in his friends and his dragon. He's going to be chief and he needs to be able to think in different ways. Apologies for the massive rant, this movie just feels like a massive kick in the face to all the memories of this series.

Goodness I have so many problems with this movie. -The riders are shown to be pretty much amateurs in rescuing dragons when they've been doing this for years -there are other solutions to the overcrowding he could have come up with, like using the rest of the island that you can clearly see in some shots, or using other nearby islands too -Toothless acts more like a dog, a pet, rather than the intelligent creature and friend he's been in the past movies -in line with the last one is that Toothless looks so blocky and bulky compared to the first movie where he was supposed to be this sleek and stealthy dragon -I don't see why they held off on the marriage of Hiccup and Astrid (except to have the movie end with it because they wanted to tie everything up with a bow but it was unnecessary) when they were clearly going to get married and going into this I thought the movie would start with them getting married when I first watched it which I still think would have been better -if Stoick knew about the Hidden World he would have searched for it to destroy instead of the nest he was looking for in the first one -Toothless constantly seems to care more for this dragon he just met over his best friend and that part is probably the part I'm most mad about because, as much fun as other aspects of these movies are, it's mainly about their friendship but it gets thrown under the bus with this one -if Stoick knew of Grimmel or if he was the famous then he would have probably hired him to kill the Night Fury when they were still being raided by dragons -Grimmel doesn't feel that threatening he just feels kinda mediocre for a villain, although it probably doesn't help that there's a much better version of him done in the TV show -they were attacked by dragons for so long and didn't leave, yet they leave when they're even slightly threatened and they have a pretty defensible position there, particularly with all their dragons and even if that wasn't good enough their new island is something that can only be reached by dragons and would be incredibly difficult for people to reach so it'd make it even more stupid to send the dragons away{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ -Grimmel's comment about Night Furies not liking the cold is crap because it's very cold where he's lived for years and his comment about not flying long distances without rest has proven to be untrue in previous movies but more so in the TV show -Snotlout being insensitive about the chief dying when he cried about it in the last movie is garbage and just them wanting to make him mean when he's more than the bully he was in the first movie -everyone looks too clean in this movie as in Valka doesn't have her age lines anymore and looks too young and Hiccup doesn't have his freckles anymore sorta clean -it's gross the Snotlout wants to get to Valka when she is SO much older than him, enough to be his parent -Valka being the one to pretty much suggest leaving the dragon when she was the one that left humans for the dragons for 20 years is just unrealistic -Astrid being surprised that Hiccup is embracing change is just insulting because he's the very person that keeps bringing change to people -Toothless being okay with using the autofin now when he wasn't before is also insulting because it was a very powerful and poignant message in Gift of the Night Fury when Toothless decided to break the fin to say he didn't want to fly without Hiccup, but now they threw that in the dirt and stomped on it -giving Toothless even MORE powers when he's already so overpowered is just ugh and we all know it's just because he's the 'special one' -having all the Night Furies be gone when FINDING them was something the second movie seemed to be implying would happen eventually just sucks, I very much wanted to see more rather than a new subspecies and it's just them trying to make Toothless more special -the Deathgripper venom both puts dragons to sleep and mind controls them and venom can't have two different effects like that -how little Hiccup seems to care about harming the Deathgrippers even though he knows they're being forced to do all this is just not him and I kept thinking he'd free them too like you guys but he didn't and didn't even seem to care when they were hurt -everyone thinking Toothless isn't coming back because he has his 'freedom' now is ABSURED because he always had his freedom and even rejected flying by himself in the past so it was clearly a choice to be with Hiccup and there's no reason to think he wouldn't be coming back because of it -Astrid is pretty much relegated to just giving Hiccup advice which is a disservice to her -Toothless seeming to instantly become king of ALL dragons when he's just the alpha of his pack is kinda weird, like why would all those dragons bow to him when they don't even know him, it's just them trying to make him even more special -Toothless actually seeming to decide to never go back to Hiccup after all is RIDICULOUS, like he just forgot about his best friend and decided to never go back to him or anything in favor of a girl and it's like it's saying if you're in a relationship you can't have good friendships which is NOT true -Toothless getting upset with Hiccup for going to the Hidden World is also just WHAT of COURSE he's gonna come and look for you, he's worried about you -Toothless deciding to go invisible with Hiccup on his back was reckless, because there's no guarantee it wouldn't hurt Hiccup and to me just shows how much Toothless just doesn't care about Hiccup in this movie which is dumb because their friendship is a huge part of the franchise and is the whole reason I love How to Train Your Dragon -which is even more sad because in the next few seconds we see Hiccup very much willing to sacrifice his own life for Toothless and it makes this love feel very one sided when it shouldn't be -if the dragons can't stay because the Light Fury doesn't like humans; well she just saved Hiccup and showed that she's kinda come around to them so I'd say she could eventually learn to live with them so that's not a valid reason to go anymore -they treat it as if the vikings were USING the dragons when it was very much a symbiotic relationship and everyone was happy living together, dragons included -making the dragons leave just to match one line in the book was so dumb, because the books and movies are so vastly different and have different messages and themes; the theme of the movies was that dragons and humans are better together and Grimmel is opposed to this and wants the dragons gone and so for some reason after they beat the bad guy he still wins because he gets them to send their dragons away when they really are stronger together. it's not bitter sweet it's just DUMB because when is the world gonna be ready? who is going to fight for dragons more than Hiccup? they've already made good progress they'd just have to start over again. and would Toothless take all the dragons in the world or just some of them? because if it takes them all then some other people might be living peacefully with them and their whole society was ruined by this or if it's just the ones nearby then it doesn't actually solve the problem. (not that it did to begin with.) and with them being sent away who's to say someone else won't find them and kill them? it's much easier to find it with dragons sure but Grimmel had dragons who's to say other hunters don't? but now they don't have people to protect them and the people of Berk now are going to have a hard time on their new island because it's easy for dragons to get to but hard for ships which was the appeal at first but now will be a detriment so at the very least they could have gone to the Hidden World with the dragons to protect them and be welcomed into their home like they had welcomed the dragons or something; there were just so many better solutions and they were all thrown to the side for that one line from the books -who's to say there's enough space and food in the Hidden World for all the dragons anyway? there are dragons that eat other dragons too you're taking them out of their native habitat to live in a hole in the ground I doubt that'll go well -there is a reason animals with disabilities are kept in zoos and not released to the wild; they can't survive on their own and it'd be the same for Toothless because sure for now he can fly on his own but eventually his tail is going to need maintenance and if it doesn't get it then welp too bad so sad you can't fly anymore I'm glad you guys enjoyed it but I think it's the worst one by FAR and that it ruins the trilogy, so much so that I like to pretend it doesn't exist. It was fun watching your reactions to the trilogy regardless, always nice to hear what people think of them. ^^

I truly believe that the HTTYD trilogy is the best film trilogy of all time, even better than all of the classics one might think of when you say the word "trilogy." As a trilogy it has so few flaws that it's impossible for me to believe otherwise. I personally think that Hidden World is the weakest film of the three purely because of time restrictions for the genre as family films do not typically go very far over the 100 minute mark. There are some details I feel could have done with some fleshing out but in general it's a solid film. I feel that the cliches the series subscribes to can be forgiven just by the nature of storytelling; if you're familiar with literature, you know that the general consensus is that there are as many as 36 stories to be told. Even that number can be condensed down to 6 standard ideas. There is nothing new under the sun, etc. HTTYD is, at its core, a story about a boy becoming a man. On that journey, we see the men that Hiccup could have been: Stoick, Drago, and Grimmel. Stoick is who he would have been if he'd been what his father wanted. Drago is who he would have been if he'd become what Stoick feared. Grimmel is who he would have been if he'd had the sort of character required to kill Toothless in the woods when he'd trapped him in the first film. These three characters, all villains (remember that Stoick is the primary antagonist of the first two acts of the first film), all represent the diverging paths that Hiccup could have taken if he hadn't chosen to be true to his gentle nature. His natural leadership skills (which we see best utilized in the third act of the first film when he takes charge without hesitation), desire for acceptance and respect, and genius could have very easily turned Hiccup into a conqueror without mercy equipped with an incredible mind. In all three instances, we see men who were unwilling to give up power, whether it be the power that comes with traditionalism, fear, or intellect. In the end, not only do we see Hiccup reject the opportunities to wrest power from others, we see him ultimately give up power. While charisma and pedigree may keep him in the position of chief, his power first came from his ability to communicate with dragons. Rather than hold on to control as it became harder and harder to grasp, he acquiesces and sacrifices his power--his position as the best among the dragon riders, his "ownership" of the most powerful dragon, all of the proof of his legacy--for the safety of the dragons, even if it left him in the vulnerable position of being unprotected by Toothless, ushering in a new and foreign season of his life. He had the character to know when it was time to relinquish power, when that power was no longer worthwhile for anyone but himself. That's how he became a man and what a great story it was.

21:35 cool and awesome call back from the first movie when hiccup is reading the night fury description from the book "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself". Awesome movie glad you guys enjoyed it, and grimmel is the best villain for me because he fights using his intelligence as his main strength unlike drago. Grimmel was able to kill a sleeping night fury, it means he was stealthy enough to not wake a freaking dragon up, and he manage to study the night fury behavior like how they can't survive the cold, and can't fly long distances. Awesome villain and awesome trilogy, and also when astrid and hiccup enters the hidden world and you guys mention the glowing little dragons and called it baby dragons, well those are just small dragons called the fire worms, a type of dragon than is burning 24/7 and the fire worm queen can even reach temperature close to the sun. If you guys plans to react to the series you'll see new dragons their and it's also fun.

"Probably something stupid" is a common theme between Astrid and Hiccup. The braids were put there by Astrid. If you remember from the beginning of HTTYD 2 when she finds Hiccup. The dynamic and relationship between Hiccup and Astrid really is built in RTDE

This movie is a complete failure. Just compare this movie to the first movie. Everything that was set up in the first movie was shattered in this one. Problem 1: Hiccup is an outcast who is not accepted by anyone but then finds his purpose and meaning in life by meeting toothless. Dragons quite literally become his life mission. You see that drawn out even more in the tv shows. His whole life revolves around finding new dragons and learning about them. Now in the third movie he basically just gives up on his whole life purpose and thinks dragons and humans can't live together just because he got a little scared of the wish version of Drago Bludvist. "Our world doesn't deserve dragons" What do you mean? If there is anyone who deserves them it's you. On top of that, his mother even supports this point of view. Are you serious? Valka. The woman who lived together with dragons for 21 years says that humans and dragons can't live together. Who are you trying to joke with? "Just give up on your dreams and die" That's the kind of message this movie is bringing across Another thing that slightly pissed me off was when Hiccup made the auto-tail for toothless, astrid said "You are embracing change, I'm proud of you." Girl, what do you mean "change"? You are talking to the very person who brought about the biggest change in the whole world. Hiccup is the embodiment of change. Astrid was the first one to be changed by hiccup and she saw what great change hiccup's actions brought forth. And now she is really dropping a line like that??? Stoicks Character doesn't align either. The flashbacks we get in this movie are from before the first movie even started. "Some day I'm gonna chase the dragons back and seal up the hidden world." What the F? The first movie displayed him as a Rough and Straightforward Chief who only had one thing in mind: Kill dragons so that we won't be killed by them. Now suddenly he has this great and ambitious goal in mind. The way he was in the first movie he wouldn't even have given a crap about a mysterious story like the hidden world. Problem 2: Toothless Character completely changed for the worse. In the first movie he was shown off as a terrifying and highly intelligent dragon, you could feel the majesty he had. Even in the second movie when Hiccup pulled out his map, toothless helped him glue a new piece of paper on the map. It showed that toothless genuinely cared about and respected Hiccups goals and actions. Again a beautiful demonstration of his high intelligence. What about the third movie? Nah, in the third movie toothless literally acts like an untrained, stupid and goofy dog. He tramples on hiccups dedication and dream by throwing Hiccups Prosthetic Leg (covered with dragon saliva) on his map while he was looking at it, a night and day difference to his action in the second movie. And while we are at it, he changed from being a super loyal friend to basically a simp. When the light fury noticed hiccup in the forest and shot at him it took way to long for toothless to realize "wait hold on this may be an attractive female dragon but she just shot at my friend, maybe i should protect my friend instead of trying to flirt" Later when the light fury threw hiccup off of toothless this scenario repeats and even goes as far as toothless having to DECIDE whom he should focus on: His best friend whom he had known for years or some stupid b**** he just met. As if the whole 6 year friendship toothless and hiccup built up became completely meaningless. This is a complete contrast to the first and second movie where toothless didn't even hesitate a single second to save and fight for hiccup. There are so many more issues this movie has (e.g: Character Design, Confused information, Villain, etc.) which i don't have time to go into right now. I honestly think this movie ruined the entire Franchise and it's a complete failure. If you are interested in why i think so then i recommend this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bcFMEs177i0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hdMV61NmFSU.html These RU-vidrs explain many of the issues this movie has (some major, some minor) in great detail.

I think this is the weakest film of the series. The villain wasn't very scary at all, I could not take him seriously as a threat. Especially if you watched the TV series before this movie and met Viggo Grimborn, who was a much smarter, much bigger threat. And no one likes friends growing apart, the best thing about how to train you dragon is having a dragon as your forever friend. I was disappointed when I saw this one because the first two were so good

Personally, I feel this movie is the weakest of the three. It felt really really clunky to me and I don’t know if I can fully put my finger on it. I didn’t care for the whole Snotlout going after Valka thing, it felt really odd. I also didn’t like how they wrote Astrid in this? Hiccup is stressed over Toothless not coming back after he let him fly off with the light fury, and she’s like “you gave him his freedom”. As if she believes the bond between Toothless and Hiccup is just nothing, and Toothless would really just never even come back and say goodbye at least. It just seemed really out of character for her to trivialize his anxieties. I also thought it was REALLY poor decision making on hiccups part to let Toothless go off flying with the light fury when he KNOWS Grimmle is looking for him??? It’s just so odd to me. So yeah. It’s just too rough around the edges for me to love it like the first one. And while 2 and 3 both have lots of gorgeous sceneries and heavy/heartwarming moments, they just don’t have the staying power for me that the first one does. (personally. Everyone can have their own opinion and it’s cool if you like it.)

21:52 so the new power. We see Toothless gradually becoming stronger from the first movie. Night Furies are already feared in that world and their actual powers are unknown. So both Hiccup and Toothless slowly figure out what Toothless's powers are. Like in the second when he becomes blue (the colour on his fins) and challenges the alpha. He is literally the commander of the dragons, like Hiccup is the chief of Berk. So in the third movie, when we see Light Fury display a new power (making itself invisible) we already get the hint that Toothless can do it too. His source of power comes from lightning.
@makii2371
@makii2371 11 месяцев назад
sadly alot of fans ar reeally disappointed with the third movie, me included, just a few reasons being the completely twisted message messing up the first two movies, the twisting hiccups and toothlesses relationship into something toxic and abusive, the making toothless a mindless animal, the "nightfury but girl" mindset behind the lightfurys design, the terrible behaviour of the other characters, including toothless and all the huge plotholes...
@shadowchsr79
@shadowchsr79 Год назад
I have a few problems with the third film. Animation and rhe emotional heart for Hiccup and Toothless and their story is on point. While timeline wise, its only 1 year after the second film, i feel like Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Fishlegs and Snotlout regressed. Where they were competent in the second film they were much more immature. The overpopulation with the dragons when Hiccups found so many islands to help relocate a lot of the rescued dragons to in the second film. So the abandoning of Berk hits me wrong. And my biggest issue is the ending. After protecting and working together to defeat this villain, his conclusion is that we dont deserve dragons and we need to send them away. When the premise of the first two films show how their bonds with the dragons help defeat these enemies. And instead of working together is the way to help change minds and bring peace slowly, nope we need to send them all away. Apparently they chose this ending because of one line from the books. "There were Dragons when i was a boy." Thry started with that and then created a story to make that ending. And my last pet peeve. The idea with an entire hidden world, there are no night furies left ever. Meaning Toothless and his species will eventually dye out. Even with other light furies eventually his night fury genes will disappear. He is the last of his kind. It feels so wrong.

I love all three of these movies, but the comedy in this one kinda misses for me, like the whole hiccups mom flirting thing was just weird and other moments just weren’t as funny in my opinion

Can someone recommend them the movie silent voice.... it's like a really good movie and I think it's gonna be new experience for them in the world of Japanese animation

They have a christmas movie with toothless and his kids it's so cute. It's short but so sweet (how to train your dragon: homecoming)
