The ingredients are 1 cup &2 Tbls. flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/3 cup canola oil and 2 Tblsps. ice water . This is our family's favorite pie crust recipe! It can be used to make both sweet and savory recipes and is an absolute cinch to prepare! Let us know if you make it!! PRESS SHOW MORE FOR MORE INFO
SEE COOKED PIE SHELL ON BANOFFEE PIE VIDEO. INFO FOR 2 CRUST PIE IS BELOW
To Make a 2 crust pie
Although it's not quite double the recipe because the top crust is a little smaller,it's easier to double the recipe and roll the extra for a little nibble.
Make double the recipe in one bowl and divide in half to roll out.After rolling and placing the bottom crust(make sure there is an overhang of about an inch around)you can take about 1/4 off the ball to save for the nibble and roll the rest to the same thickness as the bottom.Place over your filled pie and pinch edges together.You want the bottom crust to extend a little bit beyond the upper crust and pinch towards the pie which will bring the bottom crust over the top edges to seal the filling in.Make slits with a knife or poke with a fork so that when the filling boils,the steam can escape Bake as your recipe directs..Then
you can roll out the extra,sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake nest to your pie(but for a shorter time..Sounds way more complicated than it is .

What a jewel you are and your grandchildren realize this. There were so many of my favorite recipes of my grandmother and mother that I didn’t get. My mother was one of those that could see a dish and just know what the ingredients was. She did these elaborate wedding cakes, people would come to her instead of the local bakery. Thank you and your grandchildren for sharing this, I will be looking at your other recipes. Do you have a Turkey Dressing recipe and fried chicken.

But he sure does love making white dust all over for the dogs to make paw prints in. Makes him laugh so hard while grandma yells for grandpa to come Help me and turn Dragons movie on. Im going to make butter tarts for my wonderful and kind son-in-law's birthday. same with my mom. it's all about hydration. i failed a few times because i did not add enough water. 2 tablespoons might not be enough. when i rolled the dough out, it started crackling and breaking apart. likely because i was using freshly milled flour.

I've never seen a pie crust made with oil instead of shortening or lard -- but you made this look so fast and easy -- I think I'll try it!
@KFCalif
@KFCalif 4 года назад
I came here from Reddit, the other day, based on a prompt by Paige. Nana Gloria -- I'm so surprised at how my pie crust turned out! I am not a frequent pie baker, mostly because I have a tiny kitchen with poor counter space. I make quiche quite often, not so much fruit pie, and I always grab a crust from the freezer. But you said by the time you open that box of frozen pie crust you could make this simple version -- and -- you had one other trick. I detest using my ONLY counter to dust with flour, it's so messy, and my dining room table is quite nice, so that's not a good surface for me. Dusting and rolling out in flour is a pain in the butt -- but you used wax paper and it was so neat and tidy. So today for lunch I made a bean and beef savory pie, and I used your crust. It's very good! The texture of the crust is unique -- it's almost like a cross between flaky and a very fine crumbed shortbread cookie. I think next time I'll add garlic salt when making something savory. But -- you were right. The crust was the LEAST labor intensive part of this savory pie entree, and I'll make your crust again and not waste 2 seconds worrying about it! The big test is making a fruit pie, however, because I so detest a soggy bottom crust from liquid fruit juice. Perhaps blind bake that one first, and then rebake with the filling?
@2244ntho66
@2244ntho66 4 года назад
@@KFCalif Blind baking will 'toughen" up the crust so it won't get soggy. I, too, was surprised about the oil, I have never used, just shortening or butter. And alternating with vodka and water for the moisture. Wax paper will help in getting the crust into the pan, I don't know how anyone does it any other way! But working the dough too much and not prepping the crust per the recipe will always be a disappointment. Good luck!

This is the only pie crust I have ever made in 55 years of baking. The reason? It tastes good! For me, other crusts just don't have any flavor. Eating pie is all about the crust. Plus, it's so easy and fool proof. I never chill it before rolling. Makes a delish quiche crust, pot pies, etc. I used to roll out the scraps and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and bake for my daughter. Yum!

Hi Nana...I discovered this recipe a couple of years ago and it has become my go to pie crust recipe. Now my whole family asks me to bake the pies for our family get togethers. I had tried so many recipes with butter and/or shortening only to be left with tough or tasteless pie crusts. Your recipe is so easy...no more pie crust anxiety for me. Thanks to you and your grandchildren for sharing this wonderful, tender, flaky, pie crust recipe.

You are a natural at this. I could NEVER make pie crust until I made it the way you make it. I was looking for a you tube tutorial for pie crust and found you. This is by far the easiest pie crust I have ever tried to make. And believe me, I tried and tried to make pie crust only to fail over and over. Thank you so much for giving me back my self esteem where pie crust is concerned. You're the best.

Great content Nana-as a 30 yo father who’s the primary cook in our household, the best instructions come from parents and grandparents who have years of experience cooking for their families, because there’s always a strong element of practicality. I want to feed my family well, but I can’t cook like a world class chef every night.

I used to feel so intimidated by the thought of making pie crust. But, when I found your video several years ago, I leaped in with full confidence and have never looked back. Today, I think I could do this with my eyes closed because I've done it so many times. But, I wouldn't have been able to get this far had you not given me the confidence way back then. Thank you for that. 😊

Also apparently dry ingredients and wet ingredients have different cups, so eye it till it looks okay! That worked for me. Whatever extras I got, I used to make little 'cookies' to dip in.

Some of my favorite memories from childhood are the "Pie Baking" days with mom. I knew the moment the kitchen table was placed in the middle of the room and the extensions were in place that a few hours of dough fun were in the offing. I stood transfixed as her beautiful hands deftly mixed the flour, shortening and cold water. If sis was around at the same time we were both given the extra dough to turn into what we called " bumble bees" with cinnamon and sugar . A real treat! I have never learned to make pie dough like she did but I did find a recipe that even I can't mess up. Thanks to you for sharing your tips and to your grandkids for making you a real star...Now if I could only make noodles like Grandma Ellie did! Nana, YOU ROCK!!

Nana, your grandkid posted on Reddit, and got a whooooole lot of us to watch. I watch a lot of cooking & baking videos already, and while I've got my great grandmother's recipe for pie crust (which is similar to this one - sub out about a third to a half of the water with milk and cut a little down on the total of both, you pour it all in together, and that's basically it), I watched this all the way through and will watch whatever else your grandkids rope you into filming. I'm glad they did convince you to do this. Surrogate baking grandma! :)

With everything going on in the world right now it has made it next to impossible for us to film, BUT I'm working on figuring out a safe way for us to film while being safe.

Turned out perfect, thanks! So much easier than all these recipes that want you to cut in butter and whatnot. This works great. Here's a tip for you that I'm going to try next time....you know those glass spaghetti-pot lids? Apparently you can use them to cut the perfect circle from your rolled out dough.

Dear Gloria, I have tried to make a flaky tender crust so many times but they always came out like shoe leather until I tried your recipe. I modified it slightly for two crusts, by using one stick of melted butter and 1/3 cup of vegetable oil. It is delicious, golden, tender, and oh, so flaky. It really turned out perfectly. Now I'm going to become a big fat pig because all I want to do is eat pie. I feel like I really accomplished something today and I owe it all to you. Thanks so very much, I love you.
