In a recent question on rowing.zone I was asked the question who the best rowers to watch and learn from were. So I sat down and started to work on a series of videos, of which this is part 4.
Men and women alike can learn from their exceptional rowing and sculling technique.
This episode features the legendary Daniel Noonan of Australia. Winning the Bronze Medal at the London Olympics in the Mens Quadrupple Scull, Daniel Noonan has the best rowing technique I have ever seen with any male rower.

Great analysis, Aram. Like Dan, I am also based in Sydney, Australia, although he trained at Mosman. I shared Dan's video with my 1x coach as a great example of excellent leg drive + "hang".

Thank you Aram. I find your video analyses very helpful. For me, it would be even more beneficial if you’d include certain training tips or exercises you can do in a boat to improve skills or technique.

You are correct prior to the catch he did over extend the arms but he does relax at the catch. Force should be in this order legs body weight arms. Using your body weight when you are tired? Body weight should be used the whole time. Years ago I would spend hours sometimes all day rowing. Moving a medium pace keeping an eye on the depth of the blades. Making sure there was no splash. The movement becomes auto mussel memory in time. Locking out your shoulders you cant row for hours. At the catch tight shoulders drives the oars deeper to loosing speed. At the end of the day tied shoulders tired lower back if not injured.

I love watching your videos. Advice everyone should be using. Even experienced rowers should be watching as a reminder on how it should be done!
