Great video. I just watched the work of Dry Stone TV the other day. Hardworking and very professional.

Another great video - here detailing the masonry work of fitting a sandstone indent to an exterior door jamb. Your explanations throughout the cutting and test fitting of the replacement stone block were really informative, as was the batted finish description and implementation. Wonderful stuff ! - applying attention to detail ( as standard ) to an exterior project.

It’s a pleasure Tom to provide genuine positive feedback - that you continue to share such wonderful stone masonry knowledge and insight into the craft is really appreciated, as is the (unseen) video production/editing time that gets your masonry content to us. Thanks so much!!

NHL has less capillary index then Hot Mix Mortar, so it doesn't have an sacrificial function for drawing all the moisture out of the stone during winter months. The case when the introduction of new materials into use is not confirmed by scientific means of the superiority of established building traditions, which should be changed only with full knowledge of the consequences. Nigel Copsey has a tone of useful information on the different types of lime when it comes to pointing, bedding and rendering.

Great job and good explanation Tom. Looks more like polyester glue than epoxy to me though....

After some googling it appears you’re right. I was always told it was an epoxy but yeah, it is a polyester resin. Top resin knowledge! 🙌🙂

Another great vid! I repair 19th century headstones here in the States. I was wondering if the old iron latch piece will rust and blow out like before? Or will the epoxy coating keep moisture away from the surface?

Yeah eventually the same thing will probably happen but it will be good for 20 years or so. In an ideal world the iron would be treated before it got resined back in. The resin will do a good job at keeping moisture away from the iron but it will inevitably rust in the end.
