So much nostalgia packed into one beautiful TV show... A beautiful story of a guy who goes to America to fufill his dreams... It is unbelievably disgusting how we went from shows like THIS, to the Kardashians. My mom told me people lost their creative grip when the Internet became Mainstream. I miss the nostalgia like these 80's shows... I just wish there was a TV channel dedicated to these types of shows on ALL platforms. I just wish we all got our grip on creativity back...
ABC had some incredible themes back in the 80's and early 90's(Perfect Strangers,Family Matters,Step-by-Step). I know there are plenty more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
What I love best about this opening is how they practically synced the 'Dance of Joy' to the music. It's like when you hear this song, the Dance of Joy is the right choreography to it. Love this song. The melody and the lyrics are perhaps the most inspirational of them all. Whenever you feel a little down or if things are going to hard, think of this song. You will stand tall on the wings of your dreams and nothing's gonna stop you now.
I was 4 or 5 years old when this was aired here in the Philippines way back 1987 (RPN-9) and this was indeed one of the best sitcoms that I watched (aside from Growing Pains, Knight Rider) I'm 38 now and I am thankful that I grew up watching Larry and Balki and Perfect Strangers was actually part of my childhood. Of course it is don't be ridiculous!!! ❤
Nice 65 Mustang Larry! Though I don't think we ever saw it again on the show. They probably rented just for that day and just hoped they never needed an external driving shot for the series haha. Anyway I love this version of the theme the best! I remember I only started watching in like season 3 or 4 I think, so when I saw this on repeats during the summer when I was home I was like, This version is way better!
I loved this show as a kid, but I learned a year or two back that this is NOT a great show to binge consecutively lmao. It was free on Prime, and I had just lost my job and had time and was depression binging. When you see the episodes consecutively, you see that it's always the SAME EXACT formulas. For example, either: 1) Larry is trying to tell naive Balky that something isn't good or too good to be true, and it blows up in Balki's face and Larry has to explain that he isn't trying to tell Balky what to do and that he is just looking out for him. Or... 2) Balky is trying to warn Larry of a bad idea, but Larry thinks Balky is dumb so he doesn't heed his warning, and it blows up in Larry's face and Balky has to explain that he's not naive and he just wants to look out for Larry. Everything in between is physical gags like them arguing or reciting one of the dozens of catch phrases or schticks in the show lol. Still love this show to death. But you gotta eat up 2 or 3 episodes at a time to keep it from hurting 😂😂
Yup...as they skinflnt boss at the pawn or antique shop they worked at until Season 3, when the boys got jobs at the Chicago Chronicle. Had a habit of growling like an angry dog when passed off.
They cut it short in syndication to fit more commercials, so most people have not seen the full version since it originally aired. ABC family was good though about showing the full versions of shows with the full intros and cold openings.
Mark Linn-Baker is wearing a different sweater for his close-up shot than he is in the segments kept from Season 1. Bronson Pinchot's close up is the same, however.
Personally I like the show. It was broadcast in 2006 by Nick at Nite Latin America; and I have one episode recorded from TV by me. I would like A&E Latin America to rerun the show as soon as possible.
