Hi! We are Phil and Alex! After leaving California in an RV, traveling full time, and helping our littlest with an open heart surgery, we've settled down in Tennessee. We found our homestead land and are learning each day how to live a more sustainable life. We are a family grown through the miracle of Adoption & Infertility Treatments. Our precious daughters are Kinsley Grace (7 years old), Callie Jo (6 years old), and Cassidy Drew (2). Our passion is to encourage families through infertility, adoption and building stronger healthier families. Thank you for tuning in! We hope you are encouraged!

4:20 You may look into Uline as well for jars! My husband and I used to order the 1 gallon jars from them and they’re only about $3.50 a piece. Shipping can be pricey, but even with it they cost about $5.50 a piece. So when you want to buy a lot of them it can be a great option. 😊

The rubbing alcohol trick is awesome. And it also works if you get markers or pen ink on clothes. But with fabric, you have to rinse it with alcohol. I learned this trick the hard way working at a research lab. If I used sharpies to mark my tubes, the alcohol I would use to desinfect would mess up my labeling! We had to use a especial markers for those tubes!

Those curds you are eating, melt them over fries and gravy and you have authentic poutine! Also living in Canada, iur gallon milk comes in 3 plastic sealed bags. So since I don't use a lot, I put 2 of the bags in the freezer until I get low. Then I just pull out the next and thaw it overnight. No waste!

We have enough property to start a modest garden. I'm making a list as to what we would plant. My husband grew up on a farm that had a massive garden. So he's going to have to call on his memory and help me with this project. Have to rent a till and look at water costs because watering is expensive here. Might get a barrel to collect what rain water we do get. Then the seeds. We don't have enough property for chickens sadly. I'll be happy with a garden!

If we don't raise our kids to learn responsibility, hard work and learn what I call "Life 101" we have failed as parents. I truly believe that is why a lot of young adults end up moving back home with mom and dad because they have fallen flat on their face and don't know how to do anything. We baby our children and are afraid to make them work and learn because parents are afraid their kids will hate them. We are parents not best friends! They need to know how to balance a checkbook, how to live on a budget, how to plan good yet inexpensive meals and how to make them stretch, how to do their own laundry, how to change the oil in their car and know how to put air in their tires and put fuel in their vehicle, how to make their bed and even how to clean a toilet, the list is endless. I always told my kids that they needed to learn to take care of themselves so that if something ever happened to me that they would be just fine. I was a single mom for most of their lives. They are now 52 and 42 and have been managers on their jobs (without a college education) and have both been very responsible, capable adults since they moved out. Hard work strengthens their character, gives them confidence and even pride for themselves. They will eventually be very grateful that you spent time with them to teach them how to be a successful adult! That is what a parent should do for their kids. And it is so rewarding to see them succeed!

Phillip, you always bring such a genuine feel of warmth when I hear and see you speak about your wife, and your kids. You are truly a godly man. You both have built something your children will be proud of and want to continue to be a part of as the grow and go about their own lives. One thing they will all have in common is they will have fond memories of life on the farm with Mom and Dad. Who could ask for anything more?

When you get to making semi-hard and hard cheeses, get one of those beverage fridges that has a variable temperature settings. You need 52 degrees to age cheese. I vacuum-seal mine, as it's so much easier than wax. Just make sure the cheese has dried enough before sealing. Then, turn it over twice daily for the 1st week, then turn weekly. I use an "Sturdy cheese press'. It's a wooden Amish cheese press. You can use 1 gallon of milk(jug), and use it to weigh down cheese curd all the way to 100lbs psi! I LOVE my press! I'm sure you follow Gavin Webber. There's also a great book on recipes/instructions for cheeses, called, Home Cheese Making by Carroll.

Hopeful and trying not to worry about timeline. Made some ummm rustic bread with the discard and will def be making more.
