For those who are not able to get it to work, i changed a little bit de chmod to make the .sh executable. First put a sudo and on the script itself, put a ./ before. sudo chmod +x ./windows.sh Thank you for your guide! And Ross for show to us.
@@aaroneldreth You don't need a new SSD, more than enough space with the included 1TB SSD and a cheap SD card. And you only need adapters if you want to add a power bank or something, but the 80w battery is great on its own. And the Skull & Co case adds grips and stands up without a kickstand for $20. So about $900 with taxes altogether.
@@RetroGameCorps Could you pre-setup an Ally X and sell it to one of your fervent follwers? I love learning but I am focused on other projects for now. And I want one for Christmas! Love your work ❤
You definitely make the Ally X look enticing. Ive been holding off since i havent really played anything that's maxed out my Oled Deck. But i do plan to get the X eventually. Sidenote, i bought that Mechanism pillow after your prior review video of it and i love it! Holding the Deck feels more like holding a comfortable lighter weight handheld with that pillow arm supporting from underneath.
Of all the consoles I've bought, the Ally X has had by far the most impact. Does everything I wanted with respect to emulation and PC games, but does so much more too.
This convinced me to get a future Rog Ally if it ever comes out in Oled. In the meantime I’m ok with my Steam Deck but so far dualboot setup dor Rog Ally looks pretty cool.
Personally I find the feel and fit of the Ally X without a grip just perfect. Love the weight as well. Feels much better than the Ally non-X and Deck OLED I had before. I now have the Dbrand Killswitch on my Ally X and also love the feel of it as well as the added protection from it. I'm glad DBrand didn't make it more bulbous as the current grip already feels great, for me. Only thing I notice a bit more now is the added weight but it has not been enough to deter me from playing hours on end with the Ally and still not feeling hand fatigue.
I just dualboot using my AllyX and my SDOLED. If I want to boot into SteamOS, I turn on my SteamDeck and if I want to boot into Win11 I turn on my AllyX :) another Great vid, thanks Russ.
I think these handheld PCs are amazing. I just can't justify one right now. I'm still working through my Switch library and I have an Odin 2 (great for streaming from XSX/PS5) which satisfies my gaming needs right now. I think if there were a Steam Deck "lite" in the form factor of an Odin 2 I might pull the trigger on one.
Sell the Odin get an rog Ally z1e for around 350-400 used or open box then port all your switch games u really wanna play onto the Ally....u will 🚫 not regret it...I have a steam deck and rog Ally and they have changed my gaming habits completely. And it will feel like a big upgrade since u are use to a switch like I was. Pull the trigger 😂
I might have to consider this for the Ally. I purchased one used that included the killswitch, but it doesn’t improve the depth of the grip like I thought it would. That leather case looks slick as well, although a bit out of my current budget
@@fresco_dinero5155 This was about cases where at best ASUS were not honoring device warranties and at worst holding customers' devices until they paid some shipment or repair fee. The company claims to have revised their RMA process, and since then there hasn't been any damning reports. Otherwise the Ally X is probably the best engineered Windows handheld to date.
@@fresco_dinero5155Almost every company has screwed up customers at one point or another, some more than others. The best is to wait 6 months to see any problem a specific product has.
I love the Rog Ally X (as an Rog Ally owner) but problem that I have is the release date of it. The Z2 extreme chips are set to be released next year and I'll be selling my ROG Ally for the actual new chips in a few months. Ally 2 I suppose. Hopefully they carry over battery capacity
Why not add a launcher like Playnite and add a script to restart the system as a game to replicate the same behavior on Windows' side as well! You can configure Playnite to launch in fullscreen mode automatically at start up.
Never in my 1.5 years of owning a steam deck have I ever used the tracking pads. And it make wonder if other people do or how cheaper the handheld would be if it was removed. Then I see the ROG Ally and I'm like "Oh, so that's what it looks like without the trackpads" (it ain't cheaper though lol)
They're easy to use and are surprisingly accurate, I could probably play a full mouse-heavy RTS on it if I wanted. I just don't use them because they will always feel off and weird to me, and my body instinctively recoils every time I touch it. It's just feels *wrong*, man. I don't know why.
It's funny because I am the complete opposite haha. I also have medium sized hands but I just find my steam deck to be uncomfortable but love the feel of my original ally. Even that fluster in the stomach is opposite for me 😂
I wonder if you have a BTRfs driver installed, because that should allow you to mount your linux volume directly within windows automatically, so you can play the games on the linux side from windows, and vice versa, so you're only storing the games on linux side, and the windows partiton can be something like 240-500GB, just enough to store windows itself.
So are your shared SD cards formatted differently than the usual? SteamOS expects ext4 formatted cards which won't work with Windows out of the box, correct? Did you use exFAT? Commenting early in the vid so please ignore if you already address this
I'd consider Bazite if there was a Windows 10 variant. I cannot stand Windows 11, also did the 4TB upgrade, but upgraded the OS to Windows 10. Got a 1.5TB Micro SD card.
Why not partition the 4TB SSD into 3 - Bazzit, Win [256GB Each], and Games [the rest of the space in a compatible format like exfat] - that way both sides can see all games?
I can't buy this handheld, if i was buying it with my money. If it was given to me then yes i would talk about this handheld with happiness. I have the first ROG Ally. These handhelds are expensive. They make them so fast, as soon as you learn the first one then the next one is here. I love them putting out these handhelds this fast, but they have to understand you wont get your loyal buyers to buy them everytime they bring one out. Anbernic do this alot, some i will buy and some i won't. Thank you, for the video, Russ!
You put those paddles on wrong. They’re supposed to be the other way so you can reach them better lmao. I got the comfort ones but might try the portable ones since they’re a tad big
Would it will be possible to have 3 volumes/partition on that 4Tb disk, and have like 200Gb per OS and the rest (around 3.5Tb) for shared partition where you could have all your games.
Not really, unless I’m mistaken Android doesn’t work natively on X86 chips so you would either have to use apps through the windows store or use an emulator like Bluestacks
Depending on your purpose. Steam deck is more stable and comfortable to use + great oled screen (on oled version obviously) + better battery life, and ally is more powerful
Whenever I launch a PS2 game from the retroid launcher on the rp mini, I get a warning saying aethersx2 is running, safe shutdown? Does anyone know how to get rid of this warning? Using version 3668
not going to lie, this video feels a bit like a stretch. You have to do all these things to have a decent experience. When really it should have been like this out of the gate.
Well if you want that… There are consoles out there. The ROG Ally is more than just a console, it’s a very versatile piece of tech rather than a plug and play console
@@DanB-vc7gu I have a high end PC, PS5 and steam deck. I'm trying to think of it from a perspective of someone who is thinking about buying their first handheld. But spending 800 + ~400 for the mods is not it.
I think this is a really important point. Mods and upgrades add up quickly but sometimes people don't think about that overall cost since they're buying items separately. But also I'm wondering from the perspective of someone buying their first handheld and who maybe does not have a gaming PC if it's still a good value proposition. Essentially, assuming you're okay doing all the setup, is it worth doing all this and investing all of this in your ONLY gaming device
@@junwong23 I agree I think the mods are unnecessary for the most part except Bazzite which is free. If you’re getting a ROG Ally or any handheld pc, the last thing you should expect is plug and play. Of course, with time you can customise it so games are quicker to boot up but there’s home consoles and the steamdeck for all that.
