As a Celtic musician from a ancient Bardic lineage, O Dalaigh Wikipedia, The O Dalaigh Bardic Poets ,Google, this notion of grace notes is a very loose term , in traditional music , there are various styles of piping traditions, from Ireland, Lowland Scotland and Northumbria, modern pipers play in the Military styles of piping.......regarding grace notes , do not over play a tune, to the point that you are twisting your self up in knots, there by not being able to play the melody properly at all, the use of ornamentation is over stated in regards to playing traditional music, restraint in playing a melody properly ,is more important than, how many notes you can jam into a tune.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your point... Scottish piping using lifting grace notes to a far greater degree than other piping styles, and the ornaments are largely set by the composers, though of course players can ultimately do what they want. But most highland pipers do their best to play the tune as set, which is often quite ornamented. In any case, this exercise is just that, an exercise, and not meant to represent a piping style, but instead to target a particular bit of essential fingering movement for improvement.

My point is traditional music is a oral tradition, the MacCrimond style of piping was meant for playing pibroch, slow airs with variations, Scottish Lowland Pipes come from a different tradition, influenced by piping traditions of Ireland and Northumbria etc, unforttunately , traditional music being historically a oral tradition, is open to individual interpretation. @@MattWillisBagpiper
