no i don't add anything, Just dump straight into the tank.. I do have some trouble first lighting it, once it lit,, it goes without issue. HOME HEATING OIL is just RED DYE DIESEL WITHOUT NO ROAD TAX ON IT. i am writing this right now and have both perfections going, and once again no smell, no odor, so it should not be a problem to cook on the perfections. I'm using 100% BP diesel now and have been since 2013. I'm very satisfied with the results and how it works.

Tabo Racho. You might want to give this a try. When the heater fuel tank needs filling add a half an eye dropper 100% alcohol from the drug or hardware store directly inside the tank and fill it up. This will dry out the moisture from the fuel, it will help your wick stay cleaner, you will notice that it will burn cleaner, and there will be a little brighter flame. The alcohol added helps with dyed or clear kerosene or diesel. Why do you choose the diesel kerosene blend ? I operate one of these Perfection 500 series heaters every day of the week inside my home as my main heating source. I get tons of clean, odorless, no smoke, no soot, and clean affordable heat. I get just as much or more operating time as this guy in the video with good old Jet A I buy from an airport. Do you use dyed or un dyed fuel ? Cotton or Fiberglass wick ? tell me about your heater and how you operate it I am curious.

I have a 750x which has a similar tank. About 3/4 of a gallon

Fiberglass will clog right up with diesel.

David Lomm. Dyed or clear Kerosene ? I can get 12 hours with my Perfection 500 type with my method.

syyenergy7 The nice thing about fiberglass is if it gets gummed up you can dry burn it. I take a pair of pliers and gently pinch a fiberglass wick and that breaks the tar loose. I then re light it and on the highest flame setting outdoors let it burn off for an hour. If I am in a hurry I do what I mentioned above but I take an eye dropper with isopropyl alcohol and put drops along the top edge of the wick put it back together wick turned high and light it outside. The alcohol burns hotter and burns the tar out of the top of the wick. Cotton wicks are the best choice. they burn cleaner and more even. A cotton wick is supposed to burn down. If you have an uneven wick empty the tank of fuel clean the gunk off the flame spreader and the part that makes contact with the top of the wick. Turn the wick to where you have an eight of an inch sticking up. Take it in a non drafty outdoor area and light it up and let it burn all of the fuel out of the wick burning it dry. This will make a perfectly even top on your wick. wait for it to cool. re fill the heater turn the wick all the way up and light it let it run outside an hour then turn the wick down let it burn like that an hour. shut it down and look at the top of the wick it should be nice and seasoned for clean and efficient use.

i AM LEAVING MY DAM SEARS KEROSENE HEATER SIT!! it has a fiberglass wick and its a complete joke, NOTHING LIKE THE OLD PERFECTION, burning 100% diesel fuel. no additives added, and 5 fill ups and no problem.!! 100% cotton wick. VERY GOOD invention.
