The titles he mentioned in the video are some of the shared memories for the Chinese generation born in the late 80s early 90s (source: me as a 1992 born Chinese dude)
I like this episode the most, the story, the music , the cars, I feel so emotionally connected to the film while watching it, can’t really explain the feeling but this episode is calming, at the same time, exciting.
@@jza80_mkiv electric motors are giving a prius an instant start. AE86 has all the power in high rpm. And prius has a CVT gearbox so its more efficient (and boring) than the manual gearbox.
eightshvee I highly doubt a Prius which weighs at least 300kg more (400kg more and less hp than jdm ae86) is going to be faster. Actual ae86’s are pretty quick, 900kg and 128hp is a better power to weight ratio than almost all cars from the 80’s including 80’s corvettes, muscle cars, the celica supra, rx7 at the time etc, and even a better power to weight ratio than say, a E46 325i and other sporty cars that are 20 years newer. The problem is people that get ae88’s which weigh over 10% more and make 10% less power making it essentially over 20% like 20-25% slower than an actual JDM AE86 GT APEX, then say “this car is slow” like bruh you’re not driving an actual ae86, AND the engine is like 40 years old not making the same power it usually would. Like this might seem random but it’s like how in Call of Duty, lightweight makes you run 13% quicker. The ae86 is like the ae88 if you could equip lightweight..... twice....
Bladez Andrew You’re delusional. AE86 are fun drift cars but basically all of their Japanese contemporaries are faster. I run with a large all Toyota crew which includes examples of nearly all Toyota sports cars ever made (Including USDM and JDM GT-Apex). I can give you real world experience on these cars. It might surprise you to know that, stock vs stock, MKII MR2 Turbos are quicker than almost every other turbo Celica, SC MR2, IS300 and, yes, even a stock MKIV Supra TT. ST-205 is the next quickest. Then very closely followed by the MKIV TT. AE86, in a straight line are much slower than all of these cars. Lots of fun for a slow car but still very slow, even with a blacktop upgrade. It’s also worth noting that all the turbo cars respond far better to mods than the N/A cars so the gap just gets bigger as the cars are modded.
@@uknownx9238 I'm not even gonna tell because 100% of the people here will become butthurt like everytime, because apparently giving your opinion only gets you insults here.
@@harismalik4530 80hp is an exaggeration but it is slow as shit. but it handles like its on rails. you can beat your friends down a curvy hill but in a drag, a prius can probs beat you
The AE86 is not that good of a car, people just know it because initial D Even at the time there where better cars in the same category by japan (I know keiichi tsuchiya drift it but still) And that’s a fact
Theres a reason why we all love our cars. It's pretty evident in this video. The A90 is his workplace. It where he goes to focus and be the best version of himself. The AE86 is his version of home. A place where he can wind down and relax. That's why we love our cars. They are more than 4 wheels and an engine, it's home❤
Thanks for watching guys. If you watch our videos and somehow don't know what Jackie and his crew at PHD Racing are about, go check out their RU-vid channel for some top tier ballistic Chinese kid driving. ru-vid.com
I'm literally in tears rn, this video is a proper masterpiece.. kudos for this absolute magic of a video, Gears and Gasoline were always good with their stuff, be it the k20 swapping the ek9 or the road trip with the ek9 and the na miata, but.... this one is above and beyond
I’m glad that Toyota brought back the Supra as an amazing sports car that brought back the aftermarket scene but the AE86 is something special something that is analog in a computer world
A car that has no Toyota soul or barely and Toyota parts is a supra ? Sigh. The J29 is a good car, but it's not better than an m240i, which doesn't dress up as wannabe Toyota, I don't see the appeal in the mk5 other than being able to say "LOOK SUPRA GUYS I HAVE A SUPRA TOO, ITS A REAL SUPRA BECAUSE THATS WHAT THE BADGE SAYS"
@@E9X330 it just needed manual transmission option. but toyota love playing stupid games. just like upcoming gr86 won't have turbo to make 2L supra stand above it, love their stupid games.
I've always admired the pieces from Jackie and his involvement in Grid Life, but seeing this whole other side of enthusiasm really sparks joy. Keep chasing that time Jackie, and I gotta say it's these wonderful pieces by Gears and Gasoline that just reminds me why I love cars so much. Can't wait to see more from you guys! My eyes are definitely watery hearing Jackie just pour his heart out on how his grandfather bought him the 86.
There is a fascinating little detail about Chinese culture in this video and highlights China's generational differences. The interviewee is Chinese and had a passion for cars as a little kid. Once he was old enough to drive, he wanted a Toyota AE86. His parents thought it was a piece of shit and refused to buy it for him; thankfully, though, his grandfather supported him pursuing his passion and bought it him as a gift and supported him in restoring and modifying his AE86 Grandfather: genuine man carrying old Chinese culture of supporting passions, chasing dreams, and improving yourself Father: unsupportive and blinded by China's culture of face. The CCP has drained all the passion from China....
Damn Millennials probably it’s because his grandfather once did the same thing to his son, but age brings him wisdom. Don’t link most of the bad things to CCP. If Chinese people are living a good life, then whoever governs them deserves a fair comment, and the only way to know that is to experience the life in China by yourself.
thebigeggman that’s why I made this comment, media exaggerated bad things about China and seldom mention China’s effort. Most of news regarding China are in the form of a story which are opinions generated by reporters that take a strong lead in forming public opinion. Go to the streets in China and see it yourself, otherwise you are using others opinions which might only be part of the truth.
@@frank_5889 What he says about passion and culture is true - look at the large cultural output to the world by the likes of Japan, SK, Taiwan, any relatively free country in comparison. When one cannot speak freely without government restriction and approval - whether a cartoon, a political statement or concerns about a virus to colleagues - culture and passions are stifled. "Self-improvement" requires self-criticism, something that the CCP will arrest its own people for.
This is effectively what he should have just said at the beginning, nothing he has done would not have been possible without shit tons of money that he didnt earn..
His feeling of his Corolla, is what I feel for my 240sx. It maybe old, loud, 150 horse power, lightweight, but holy shit it's the greatest feeling simply driving around in it. Idk what it is that attracts me to the car, but it's just sensational.
This honestly really inspired me to keep working for what I want, currently I have a 2017 Nissan Altima SV, not exactly a performance car I mean it’s quick from about 35-60 lol and good around corners, but man this inspired me to work harder for that 370z.😌
I saw that supra at the circuit of America’s, I was on the other side of the course, and when they started it, it was so loud and so aggressive I could feel the vibrations from it, *On. The. Other. Side. Of. The. Track.* Perfection is an understatement
when Jackie ding mention it drains you when a hobby becomes a profession is what I feel when I used to work in automotive industry. I drive a stock evo 9 and I know it is slow compare to new performance cars but enjoying driving it makes me smile.
THIS. This is the content we signed up for. Please keep following Jackie, I love his story and commitment. Thank you gears and gasoline for some truly stellar content.
Gears and gasoline is the best car channel to actually help others understand why we love cars! Thank you for the amazing content boys hats off to you!
This video really chokes me up. You said exactly what I feel, and what I love about driving and riding. It reminds me of looking up to my brother as a kid riding in his Sylvia thinking the world of him, reminds me of riding with my dad with him talking about his muscle cars he used to own. It reminds me of why I love cars and driving so much. Great video, one of your best thanks
He is disappoonted for failing in a track. I can't even buy a car 😂. In my opinion, driving a slower car is more fun. It takes less money and you can drive to its limit anywhere.
This video reminds me of my first car 1996 geo prizm(Corolla), it wasn't fast but it was very light 2,200lbs, it was fun. Now I have a 07 350z and to be honest it doesn't have the fun factor like my lil prizm had. Just gotta add twin snails for the z haha😁🏎️🎺 thanks G&G for reminding me :)
Schumacher is not a God. His mentor and competitor is/was the only obstacle. He wish he is alive. Nobody come to Senna except maybe 2 or 3. But then there’s nobody like Senna(God sent).. no Shumacker is not God. I would never stop racing if my main competitor is not retired. All the trophies I collected don’t mean anything when (He) passed away.
people may say the ae86 is overhyped, and they are absolutely correct.......but who cares? it gives people something to love, it brings the community together. it’s not always about the performance of a car it’s about loving it for what it is. it may be a 70’s 80’s 90’s etc. sh*tbox, but it’s about the passion of the car and what it means to you. i completely respect this man, because he loves it for what it is.
When I walk out of my house and see my car, the car I bought, fixed, yelled at, laugh-in, cry-in, eat-in, it puts a smile on my face, and makes the ride even better.
I really like this guy :) he has very important message. We often try to always chase the next big thing in life, always try to improve, but forget to appreciate what we have.
@@CarsOverPeople in the end it dont matter what car really.. its about that love for cars and having fun because life is too short. Cars tought me about life. You need to maintain it and if your having a bad day you can't let that down because its like a flat tire if you don't fix it you ain't going anywhere.
You keep running & running like mad But we need tunes to just slow down & enjoy it.. The AE86 represents that perfectly, I mean passionately.. The 86 is wonderful, fun & enjoyable without super speeds or extreme performance.
truely loved teh message from Jackie. We tend to forget why we start/get into things.....is that it makes you happy and what you love. when he said that, it made me appreciate my mazda323 so much more. I enjoy driving my 323, with all its issues.
so the next time someone asks you why your fucking wreck of a "project" car still doesn't run and drive after 7 years, you will have a fancy one-liner excuse. thank me later.
