@@FRAGMENTAL Their also seems to be a widespread notion that the same fragrance smells better on certain people than others. I wonder if there has ever been a blind sniff test for this phenomenon to see if there is any truth to it? Some people report getting "lots of compliments" when they go out and wear fragrances, whereas some people never get compliments.
@@FRAGMENTAL This is just my theory but I think it has more to do with someone's general aura and energy pattern than their skin chemistry. Because alot of people wear fragrance on their clothes or hair, and not on their skin
What a great video! I am amazed at how this perfumer's nose picks up chemicals so quickly, and can even tell which fragrances are probably going to last/project, and how much of a synthetic note is put on top of a tiny quantity of natural ingredients (if any). One of the best fragrance videos I've watched, honestly. I hope you bring him back! :)
This is the most interesting idea for a vid that I have seen in a very long time. Great idea and would love to see more perfumers talk about designers.
I love that you added zaras RWA i found it in store by accident and fell in love with it. I find the projection actually lasts a good 4-6 hours on my skin and for a 20$ fragrance it is a gem. Great video!
It's one thing to be a collector but it's another thing to a professional in the business breaking down fragrances. I would love to see and hear more of the industry professionals do videos like this! Thumbs up.
A lot of perfumers don't buy fragrances retail. They buy a lot of testers, decants, and pre-owned. You can get pre-owned Tom Ford on Ebay for a good deal if you look regularly. So I don't think Aaron was suggesting the retail price of Tom Ford.
Izzat Irfan I wouldn’t wear Black Orchid if it was given to me. Every other woman that I pass in the street is wearing it here this winter. I’ve been so put off by the saturation that it now repulses me. 🤮
dabarefootbombshell yes, layering something on it would make it more interesting. LVEB was like that too: everywhere, all the time, on everyone! Not everyone has a clue how to layer though. 😊
I love that guy!!! He's totally clarifying everything I thought about the state of fragrances these days... cheap made, generic with safe (awfull) performance... and it isn't just the cheapies.
There will be bu..hurt people in the comments 100 % " Who is this guy?, I own 1,2,3.. all of them, and they smell gorgeous" haha . I'm a traditionally trained for 6 years in Paris Pastry Chef , and a friend of mine did the same thing with me, made me try cheap $3-4 cakes. Horrible . They are cheap, taste cheap and plasticky, and there's so much chemicals , you can't even imagine. You can fool some average consumers, but experienced ones will tell if the fragrance/cake is cheap 19/20 times , and I'm not even talking professionals. Love the video .
The more one gets into fragrances the more these cheap ones - just doesn’t work. So I absolutely gets his reaction. 90% of the times I have been talked into buying some cheap fragrances I have been disappointed ☹️. The cheap ones that I can recommend is Bentley for men intense, Mont Blanc individuel and Ferrari Bright Neroli but my best recommendation is to buy some quality juice from the clone houses.
the thing is some of my cheap/clones fragrances gave me way more compliments from people than my niche fragrances , cheap/clones fragrances works guys u just need to buy the good one's because there is alot of bad ones ! its not like u gonna put ur nose on ur skin to smell the synthetics all the time the majority of people aren't fragheads they can't tell if the fragrance smell synthetic or not they just enjoy the smell so cheap fragrances definitely work especially if u only want compliments
@@killer29209 Alexandria Fragrances, Armaf, al haramain, paris corner/world fragrances , Dua Fragrances, Parfums Vintage ( better quality but higher prices like designers range), Rasasi (not actually a clones house but they have some of the best cheap fragrances on the market)
AMir B thanks brother for the fast reply I got a few from Armaf HAVENT heard of Paris corner I’ll def be on the lookout for them. And you are absolutely right with the cheapies getting more compliments than some of the higher ones my girlfriend fav fragrance out of the 43 I own is nautical voyage i was flabbergasted
@@killer29209 u r welcome brother, paris corner and fragrance world both new dubai houses they only do cheap clones & both obvious bout it they are not trying to hide it, they have some amazing one's i smelled recently la uno from paris corner (the one edp clone) & i was surprised it smell very close like 80-85%ish to my nose but they are hard to buy from the internet , nautica voyage is amazing for a 14$ i also recommend perry ellis red 360 (acqua di gio clone), rasasi daarej, lattafa najdia (invictus aqua clone with better performance), rasasi al wisam day (silver water mountain clone and better imo), ard al zaafaran midnight oud (amouage interlude man great clone for a 30$ its amazing)
OMD Chris! Fantastic video! I’m a fan of some of Aaron’s work and get what he means about the chemical smell of some of the perfumes you presented to him!
Hey fella, this is a cracking bit of content. ATH is a natural in front of camera and a fab perfumer to boot. Love the idea of having a nose sniff frags blind, i'd love to see a vid with ATH and/or another Nose smelling a mix of frags, literally everything from Roja Dove to PP clones. Any chance of doing one like that?
Aaron is a treat and then some. I don’t think he was rude or disrespectful but genuinely and somewhat brutally honest. I’d love to see him again on your channel with other genres like niches and clones. I secretly pray he tears PV apart 😊 Great idea and well done video Chris.
Liked the video and I love Frag-Mental but I have to completely disagree on his thoughts on Rochas Man and CK One Shock . I have a bit of collection and I use CK One Shock just like when I don't know what I want to wear in this season ,and it got me more compliments than much more expensive fragrances that I have . And I also disagree that it does not last , on my skin CK one Shock lasts about 5-6 hours with a good hour and a half projection , so for 26 quid for 200ml is actually a really good deal .
I agree Zee... Wear what you like... and spend / buy what you want... I just commented on another post and stated that I wear everything from Tom Ford / Dior... To CK and Perry Ellis... Specifically CK Shock... It’s nice. Sure it isn’t the best and can be a bit synthetic in the opening... but for the price... and if YOU like it... Wear away... Obviously I respect his position and point of view... and can appreciate where he is coming from... But live and let live... No need to belittle folks that wear these fragrances and perhaps it’s all they can afford...
thank u. a bit concern: ck shock was the first one, not the "last one". then further, it is important to focus on the lasting componants of a fragrance. so let the test-paper sit at least 10min. because the hour u smell it, is the hour u have to bear it. that gives a hint for how far i am convinced on the professionality here. thank u
"Years ago I used to coat myself in Black Orchid" "Why wouldn't somebody want to save up £40 tops, Black Orchid is £30-40" You can tell he's not bought Black Orchid again recently!
Really cool. Great idea Chris. To have someone with such an advanced nose and knowledge plus a chemistry background smell those cheapies. It's like he just smelled the chemical compounds in them they weren't even fragrances for him lol. Really enjoyed it. I hope to see his fragrances in the U.S. Thanks. - Colin
Loved this 🙂 a bit like taking Raymond Blanc to McDonald's lol. Been trying a few samples of Aaron's fantastic work and yesterday tried the Jasmine Amber Rose which he said is now Goddess, after smelling that I can understand how hard this video was for him lol. Its heaven in a bottle and this guy knows how to do chocolate 😍 sayin that ill always love my super synthetic fragrances, especially the loud 90s ones 🙄🙊 lol
two cheap in price but fine and elegant fragrances I have: AGUA BRAVA EDC 500 ml splash (£27 pounds) and BRUMMEL EDC 500 ml splash (£10.50 pounds); both are very nice colognes from the house of Antonio Puig (QUORUM) and old school for a mature man with a solid personality and hard character, you cannot go wrong wearing these two colognes.
What a great video idea! Aaron obviously knows his stuff (as you do, Chris). I wish my nose were half as matured as his. Would love to see more vids like these. Some niche, some designer. Thanks!!
Love this video and love Aaron...I really appreciate honesty in fragrance reviews. I plan on ordering his Discovery Box as a Christmas present for myself! More Aaron, please! You two are great together.
I know that there're others who may feel that there should be another one of these, but I am not of that thought. The man's nose has become accustomed to higher quality fragrances so, just as another commenter stated: it was like speaking to a 'chef'. Its one thing when a fragrance enthusiast gives their opinion, but having an experienced perfumer speak is different. I've been wearing fragrances for over 30 years, and to my recollection, Azzaro Chrome Legend is my most complimented by far. Whenever I wore it, I was guaranteed to get at least one compliment. But he would have trashed it. All that is to say that everything is an opinion, and persons should wear what works for them.
THIS IS YOUR BEST VIDEO that I've seen. Would ABSOLUTELY LOVE ♥️ to see him review all the major designers, his nose is amazing!!! I want to try his scents, he needs to get a distributor in the USA🇺🇸
RWA is lovely. CK One Shock is without doubt synthetic but it smells nice to my basic nose. Although I've smelt some horrible chemicals while working in a lab....
@@EverymanFragrances I know a lot of people love Shock, but I really can't stand it. I bought a bottle, sprayed it once, and then took it right back to the store. Fragrances are so subjective, and I don't put anyone down for liking something. 🍻
@@EverymanFragrances Only one store let's you do that here, and it isn't an actual fragrance store. It's called TJ Maxx! They don't care what you return... They just slap another tag on it and put it back on the shelf! We also have a store called Ulta that will let you return it for store credit so you can buy another fragrance from them.
9.36 !!!!! really love this video because of total sincere feelings ... i´m the same type of ... and there were many times that i believed to all of the blind buys because of youtube hype reviews ... and was many times more than disappointed (glad i only had rochas sample ... very syrupy synthetic, overly sweet headache smell)
He was holding back a fair bit, possibly as he needs to keep face for his own products. Cheapies have a place, but they are bound to be more chemical. Some of us can't afford the big expensive brands, especially at the beginning when we start our journey. When you get further in, i.e, 3 years like myself and realise over 400 frags, mainly cheapies, is a bit silly, then you start to realise you need no more and focus on sampling better quality fragrances and having quality over quantity. £1 for 100ml is telling you what you are going to get though. Niche in general is much better, but even some niche is terrible. It's an expensive hobby to explore. I only have the Oud 24 hours from the video, and think it's pretty good, but my nose isn't as professional as Aaron's and can imagine that Black Orchid is a far better creation. Should try a vid where it's 5 cheapies and 5 niche - Aaron will know the difference for sure, but would still be interesting.
I like that these videos are not just 90% advertisment like those of Jeremy where he just tries to sells stuff, every video is the same - with a little twist, thus just perpetuates the sameness, the advertisment character. i really like honest reviews from genuine perfume lovers. i mean designer perfums sound all the same, so lets skip it and just focus on niche fragrances etc. It´s also great, when people explain a bit more than "great" "bad", and talk the ingredients...
Is there a single human being on Earth that doesn't think Rochas Man is pure crap ? It was the first fragrance that I blind bought and became furious at myself for buying it. It is SO unisex !!!
There is nothing wrong with unisex frags, in fact I know a few female scents which I would like to own full bottles of them, but Rochas Man is terrible really, it is very sour in a weird way, this cappucino note is pukeworthy af
I'm sorry but we differ on this topic. I don't want my son smelling like a girl. I just don't. I can not stand working around a man all day that smells like a girl. While I do enjoy this Frag World journey , unisex fragrances just aren't a part of my world.......and ....The fact that I paid full price for a large bottle of Rochas Man will haunt me to the grave
An obvious quid for 100ml of the Poundland one. At that price you could pour it into your windscreen washer reservoir on your car if it didn't work on you and leave a pleasant trail when you wash the screen.
Hey FM I just recently discovered your channel. I have been watching fragnance videos on RU-vid for well over a year now and I have to say your videos are great. Keep doing what you do bud.
he is right with the ck one shock i bought it when i was just getting into fragrances, it lasts about an hour on my skin lol. gave it to my dad he is happy with it ..
I was expecting that reaction but disappointed with it. I have smelt plenty sure you have, Niche that are disgusting unwearable but I love a bogart or Daarej and 24 hours oud I like it more that TF BO. You could say im untrained, know nothing or you could say I still have my finger tips in reality. But we all have our own views and entitled to them. But its nice to engage. I have spoke to Roja a few times he really isn't of that thought, only the best for his range but hes interested with everything! Interesting video !
Please make a long video (2 hours) with the same topic. Give him some random stuff and we would see his opinion about fragrances. That would be awesome❤ Such a nice guy😊
I wonder what his opinion of PDM Layton would be. The top note annoys the hell out of my nose but after the dry down it's pure luxury. Obviously it's not a cheap scent but I'd be interested to know his opinion of it.
Question my friend? You have a magnificent collection of some of the best fragrances money can buy, do you still wear the cheapies even though you have such a great collection to choose from that obviously are of a better quality, a bit like owning a mini, moving on to a Ferrari(😉) yet would you still go back to a mini(not the best analogy I admit) but do you get my point, are you not at a stage in your journey where there is no longer a place for you to continue to wear more chemically lesser quality frags not to belittle anybody who does so, but when you have quality at your disposal are these cheapies now not coming more redundant in your rotation?(I hope this has come across in the manor it was supposed to just an honest question?👍👍👍 Loved the vid Aaron has a hell of a nostril weapon at his disposal definitely knows what he’s talking about 👌
I know what you mean Nigel. I actually wear these from time to time. The quality across my collection varies greatly but sometimes I find I still enjoy a cheap fragrance even if the materials used aren't as high quality. I just wear what I enjoy. The Italian Job wouldn't have been half as much fun if it was Ferrari's screeching round Turin😉
Oud 24hrs is actually a beast for compliments does not have the beautiful dry down of black orchid it has a different drydown altogether but the mid and top (slightly) is close to TF BO
Maybe you could do a perfumer rates for different price ranges? I'd be interested in the $20-50 price range, because then you could do some encre noire's, guerlains, the one, terre de Hermes, etc (discounter prices).
His nose is good obviously but I really like how he can detect it will have poor performance based on smelling a paper for under a minute. Usually they get u in store bc fragrances all smell great on that paper in the short period of time you are at store....but he can detect notes r weak that quickly..nice.. What's weird is he hates Rocha n liked Zara.. He liked Rocha dry down though so that's cool. Oh n shouts out BLACK ORCHID what what!! Masterpiece.
My experience with Cheap Fragrances are, that they smell nice, but last at least so long, that you can spray again every 20 minutes. If i need so much of that Fragrance just to keep it going, then i can buy directly a more expensive one which last longer.
Hey Chris what do you think of this idea ... get aaron on to do a blind rating of cheap frags, but dont tell him. in fact, tell him they are niche or over 300 quid or something. You would record an intro telling us the real nature of the test, while during the actual rating of the frags you'd essentially be acting. This would be a good video on placebo effect and confirmation bias. Of course in revealing this, aaron might feel offended or lied to, but then you guys can privately discuss if you want to release this video or not. Just a thought! would definitely make a very interesting frag video.
I like this video! Thoroughly enjoyed his restrained evisceration of every last one of them. 🤣 you should have him do a video reviewing some of the more popular fragrances from the house of Armaf or Dua. I’ll have my beer and popcorn ready for that one.
The 90s yuppie 😂😂😂😂 Brilliant! I had the same first impression on paper. Dreadful stuff. But after 30 minutes on skin.....bang. Would love to get your impressions of Unexpected Fresh Spicy from Zara Chris.
