I want a perfumer (Hint, Hint) to reformulate Happy into their own modern beastmode interpretation that blows everyone’s mind like it did 20 years ago, but better. This is still one of my all-time favorites, but like you said...it doesn’t last in today’s formulation (maybe an hour on my skin). Soooooo, what do you say, Aaron?
We all get into relationships for all sorts of funny reasons. I went out with a girl in my youth just to get to know her sister. Then I got bladdered at a family party and got chucked out for kissing their mom. Happy days. 🦄🦄🦄
It has ABSOLUTELY been reformulated. If I knew more about cologne 20 years ago, I would have STOCKED UP on it. This use to be my ABSOLUTE go to cologne when going to the clubs and sweating and dancing. It ALWAYS kept its integrity.
This takes me back to 2002-2003. It evokes so many memories for me also. I knew a wonderful, handsome man who wore this fragrance. I was so infatuated by him. This mixed with the smell of tobacco reminds me of him, nights out, dinner dates, late night talks drinking red wine... Old school jazz and RnB the soundtrack to it all. It's very of its time, I agree. But what wonderful, beautiful time it was.
You have such a gift for story-telling, and mixed with your exquisite knowledge of perfumery that always makes your videos engaging and informative. Great review!
I had a bottle of this 20 years ago and I've test smelled most expensive colognes and this is my top in my 5 it's fruity and even a little flowery with enough musk to make it a man scent.
I’m just surprised how long this cologne has been around.. I bought this stuff around 20 years ago. Can’t wait to smell it again since I forgot the smell

I have always loved this aptly named cologne. Ever since the first sniff. I had to re-purchase it as my other bottle had spoiled from my childhood. Definitely get the Versace pour homme vibe, but with the best citrus in the game. If only it lasted longer, it would be perfect.

This used to be my favorite, back in the day. It's disappointing to know the reformulation is weaker and less interesting. If I loved the original, can you recommend a better, more interesting choice for this type of overall crisp, orangey, citrusy feel? Maybe Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo "Arancia di Capri" or something?
This also has a memory for me - It was one o fly first full bottle fragrances, and i was absolutely in luv with it.. and I loved the branding and idea when I was in high school - I would wear it and it would actually make me feel happy. Long time ago.. just amazing. I got a bottle for memories a while back but it was too much alcohol/synthetic burn and not quite like I remembered - sadly. I sold it. It shall be just a great memory.
As a perfumer why do so many major brands reformulate at the cost of projection? Do they assume people don't want strong frags that project, or are the companies just being cheap and "watering it down" to make more money. Or possibly both?
from what ive read and watched from numerous videos here on youtube.... certain aroma chemicals and other things get banned so the house is forced to use different ingredients. ive also heard that the companies will use cheaper chemicals in an attempt to profit more if a fragrance does not meet projected sales goals.
Would you recommend this for someone who works in healthcare? I'd like to wear something easy and light. Don't need patients complaining. 😁 Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you
Nicely done! I picked up a bottle recently because I wore it when it came out...you're spot on, it's a mere shadow of its former self! Still a joy to wear though..
The smell of Calvin Klein Eternity has the power to take me back to some ecstasy fuelled evening at various boys own doo’s in the late eighties / early nineties in some club in London or a field in Berkshire ....it’s absolutely amazing the power of fragrance isn’t it ?.....Great review 😊
I still had an old bottle from the mid 2000s until a year or so ago. Unfortunately it didn’t smell of much anymore, probably didn’t do it any good that it had been sitting in daylight for 20ish years…
What could be a good alternative for a similar sent to clinic happy ? I’ve always used since I was young and I recently started taking an interest on men’s fragrances, I love clinic happy since I remember but now days wen I apply it it doesn’t last longer and im currently looking for an alternative sent somehow similar

Yeah, I’ve noticed it’s not as strong and nice as it once was 20 years ago. For this reason, I usually put it on after a shave and shower for around the house. 👍🏻
That sweet orange linen smell is right .. that linen you refer to me smells like a powerful ocean to me .. I would wear it under my armpits nowhere else! LOL
When I first wore this it was as a present from my wife. I loved the scent, so clean, fresh, fruity and not overwhelming, but a good compliment getter. Fact forward to 2020. Went to Boots to resupply. The bottle I bought DID NOT smell upon my skin for more than 30 seconds. Even my wife couldn't smell it. Contacted the manufacturer and sent it back. They later confirmed it was faulty and refunded my money. It would seem there was a faulty batch on sale, and that, sadly, put me off buying it any more - until today, Christmas 2021, and my wife bought another bottle for me. It does smell nice, but is weaker, doesn't last so long, and just doesn't have the 'body' it used to. Such a shame when they do this to wonderful fragrances. Just a quick question - does anyone here remember Next's fragrance for men from the 80's? In a slate grey bottle, light blue writing - such an orgasmic gorgeous scent. If I had to compare it to anything today, it would be very similar to Dior's Sauvage. Sadly that fragrance lasted about a year and vanished. Next fragrances today, are wishy-washy, chemical smelling cheapies.
Happy is very Nostalgic for me! I wore it when I was younger and haven't smelled it in a really really long time. I wonder how watered down it is now :(
Im confused. I have a blue bottle of Designer Imposters called “Wanna Play,” and it says “If you like Clinique’s Happy, you’ll love..” but mine smells like cotton Candy. So I assumed that’s what Happy smelled like. But you’re saying it smells like linen and citrus.
Lovely review! I rocked the original Clinique Happy for Women in the late 90's and Clinique Happy Heart in the early 2000's. I enjoyed them both a lot when they came out, but neither are for me anymore. Clinique Happy Heart has been my Mama's signature scent for 20 years now. ❤
@@AaronTerenceHughes I haven't smelled the original in a very long time. 6 months ago I grabbed Happy Heart and it was exactly the same (I went through enough bottles back in the day to say that confidently).
honestly, your description of smelling it on someone at 4am off your face on pills and ending up in a relationship with them, just because of this scent really made me laugh, it was silly! but it was also a fragrance that did some crazy shit to people, including me.

I think I enjoy your old school fragrance reviews more. You pinpoint whether it's been reformulated and that's important to people. Some of these hold great memories for us aswell.
I do wonder what harm certain chemicals did to our skin and the environment back in the 80s and 90s. However everyone smelled awesome..so I dont know where I stand on it 😬💥
I used to flip this and Acqua do Giō and Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme, back in the day in high school,to make some pocket money. I agree, the reformulation killed the performance of it. Got fond memories of the original (maybe not so fond memories as yours) but my newest bottle,I barely wear. Lackluster and it is indeed a shame, like you said. Have you reviewed Sun Men from Jil Sander? I'm curious what you'd think of that.
Aaron, curious if you’ve tried Zoologist Rhinosceros? I think you might like it… it’s an insane hyper masculine perfume kind of delivering a fetish / s&m club vibes, dirty, animalic and beastly, a refined modern powerhouse
Well when you drop a few doses In a club and you are rolling your capillaries become restricted your senses are aroused more everything becomes more intense. Happy is clean smell plain and simple never was Exciting. I remember rolling hard and thought the toaster on the counter top was as bright as the sun.
Hi Aaron, I'm wearing Creed Himalaya today. Just got it and I dont know if I've gone nose blind to it? After the dry down 20 minutes or so. It seems like a skin scent on me. Sorta disappointed. Have you ever smelled it? Thanks again from Chicago!
No I haven't. I stay clear of the creed range as a lot of creed lovers are really odd and if im honest they send me out death threats. So I chose not to review that often. Maybe once a year if that. I did there Neroli but thats it till 2021
Im sure it was nicer. Some people just do negative reviews to be a bitch and get clicks. I always ask. What qualifies them to smash someones work? Being negative for the sake of being negative is not cool and thankfully something I never want to be.
This was on Chandler Burr's(New York times perfume critic) Top Ten years ago 🤔 I think he actually said "Clinique Happy is something every man should own a bottle of" I still find it pleasant when its hot out, but it's definitely been battered along the way by reformulation unfortunately.
I stopped using this after the new formulation. Its smells neutered of that makes sense. Like the wish version of its old version. For citrus lovers, light blue forever os a great replacement if you love grapefruit.

this is my go to fragrance for days off where i just hang out around the house. it just smells like relaxing with a book in the summer to me. edit: i got my 100ml bottle for $30 US. i wouldnt pay more than that for it... but for the price... i will always have a bottle of this in my collection
So, basically, this one is a fruitier and more floral Acqua di Gio. Can anybody confirm that? I'm asking because I never sampled any Clinique and I probably never will. It's nonexistent here where I live.
Hi Aaron, I noticed some of your videos were privated specifically your "Rose" video. I sometimes listened to that video to fall asleep because it was so relaxing, may I ask why?
When i smell this, i always think of smoking a cigarette outside a club in 2001 😂 i really like it still but yes there is a dry papery cigarette type vibe to it…like this was what u sprayed after having a ciggy at work 😂
Even the strongest fragrances like sauvage elixir you'll wanna rock 2-3. For something like this which is extremely light with not great longevity 7-10 is perfectly acceptable and isn't going to choke anyone out
I love the freshness of this fragrance but it’s performance is absolutely shocking. It’s by far the shortest lasting fragrance I’ve ever had. I have well over 100 fragrances and this is the worst by a mile. It’s a shame the performance is so bad as it would be great if it lasted beyond an hour.
Its been a while since I've checked in, Brotherman. I kinda started going down, with what has been going down lately. I must say that it has been most enjoyable to watch you blossom and aspirations come to fruition! In the beginning, I remember you having trouble with the word 'guaiac.' You nailed it! I very much dislike the female version of this scent. Both my mother and I tested it when it came out back in the 90s and we both detested it LOL It smelled cheap, generic, and unpleasant, and it still does IMO. Never smelled the male version.
@@AaronTerenceHughes I still do 😅 I wouldn't mind wearing it on special perfumes since it's probably only rarely sensitizing.. And the IFRA restrictions on Rose are true BS 😵
Got it exactly 20 years & six month back on 11th December as a gift from my then fiancee now wife, just after our engagement. I wore the heck out of it. Enjoyed it so much as we went partying around. So went back to their boutique and purchased 1 on my 20th anniversary this year sadly 😥 you are right the oomph has gone.
