Reviewing the much requested Oud Ispahan from Christian Dior Paris. www.aaronterencehughes.co.uk Instagram - AaronTerenceHughes Music: Sleepdebt - I C U #FragranceReview #ChristianDior #OudIspahan
This is the first accurate review that I’ve seen on Oud Ispahan. This matches my experiences with the perfume. So many other reviews describe it as a dense billowy rose or spicy, but to me it is more about an ambery leather and a light airy rose.
I’m quite pleased that they had the courtesy to disclose that it has an “Oud accord”.. I believe too many houses claim “Oud” when it’s essentially only an accord, and the prices need to be complimentary to the ingredients
I love the way you invite us to think about perfumery and include us in the conversation. You're very inclusive in that matter and it makes the world of fragrances seem very accessible. Top notch content 👌
Aaron you've nailed the pronunciation on Ispahan :) love that :) For my friend who don't know it's a city in Iran and it's well known for its fantastic roses . In Iran we say ( Isfahan ) اصفهان Give it a visit , a lovely beautiful cultural place .
The meaning has changed so the prononciation also changes it’s a french cake named ispahan now It’s like the vandals a people, then vandalism an action, then andals a country, than al-andalous a country Words evolve
@@ArmienPour2000 have u never been to Iran? Iran doesn’t make anything anymore. Everything sucks here, specially perfume since all perfume oils are bought from China here.
Another great review. One of my favorite fragrances from my favorite house. Also in my humble opinion this stuff somehow gets even better when it gets rubbed into your clothing a little bit.
I’ve been looking at this for my first musky oud fragrance and really glad to see you rate it so highly. I’ll be buying this soon, I was between this and OFG by Initio, but the rose addition and deeper musk note seems to put this out front!
Another great one Aaron, I am middle eastern and like you said it, it’s kinda middle eastern and this is one of my favorites, so nice and sexy during winter, so classy and elegant
I expect nothing less from Dior , class and character all the way.. love your breakdowns of the fragrance and the knowledge you share with us. Fantastic 🦄❤️
Have to agree on this one. Oud Isphan is a really good, top fragrance. It got me interested in smelling other rose / oud combos but for me I think this one is one of the best. Have not got round to buying it because it is price restrictive but maybe one day I will splash out and treat myself. Good review.
Oh man I adore this fragrance. After spending a long time in the Dior boutique - it was this and only this for me. I had to have it. The luxury, the mystery, the opulence, the airiness. 10/10.
Great review, as always Aaron! As a lover of Oud, real Oud, Oud accord to me, not being a perfumer, means it's not real oud, but materials brought together to bring about an Oud smell, Oud accord smell. No real Oud used imho.
I bought a load of samples recently as sometimes i like a fragrance in the shop but then hate it after a few hours of wearing it. I ordered this one as i had to order a certain amount, but I'd never heard of it. It's straight away one of my favourites. Its luke a mixture of dubai and the tom ford ombre/oud scents. A little too strong at first but just dries down incredible. If I'd smelt it in the shop i wouldn't have bought it just because of how strong it is initially.
Thanks, Aaron, for teaching us and being legitimately one of the best creators on RU-vid. Your honest and expert reviews are so refreshing and necessary. I've learned a lot. And I also appreciate your suspicion and scrutiny of marketing copy!
thanks for making such a sensitive and magnifying review of Oud Isphahan. First I wanted to make sure that your review is legit, so I check your reviews of my other favorite perfums "Azzaro Most Wanted" and "Tom Ford Extreme Parfum" and you had an excellent review on those two as well and that's why I trust your feedback on Oud Isfahan and instead of getting 1.35 ml, I got 4.25 ml and I can't wait to get my shipment. by the way, your tattoos are epic!
Have you tried the house of Arabian Oud Aaron? They're a niche middle Eastern house with a couple boutiques in London. There's a lack of high quality reviews of their stuff online, and I love to hear what you think of them!
Aaron your so right In what you say about it being very Middle Eastern. I sampled then purchased a bottle of this in Dubai in the Dior shop in the Dubai mall. The lady in there who might I say was very pleasant said the target was the Middle East. She said it was designed to smell like money so the ladies there could smell wealthy.
I definitely think accords / bases can definitely support or even replace a natural in certain situations, such as when ifra levels are slowly restricting usage on materials. Or even when a fleeting top note such as bergamot needs to be supported in order to make it longer lasting. Im still an amateur at perfuming but I’m definitely seeing the importance of accord making and bases. A good example would be if you want to make a perfume that has a heart of bergamot. There is no way you can just slap in a natural bergamot and expect it to perform 3 to 4 hours on skin. On the other hand, if you carefully blend synthetics with that natural (build an accord) , it can potentially prolong the life of the material and it means you can dose it higher in the formula without going over ifra restrictions.
I just heard about this fragrance and well let's just say I'm itching to get my hands on a bottle, I love a good oud rose especially one with high quality materials like you described.
I absolutely love your reviews, the way you talk about it really shows how much you love the world of fragrances. Love how serious and detailed you explain the fragrances. Keep it up with the AWESOME work!!!
To me, an accord means blending different materials together to create a smell that you can't abstract from nature, like raspberries or apples. Or to recreate something you can get from nature but it's cheaper to create an accord. Or as a support for everything else. Have you tried Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial Extrait? I find it really smokey and sexy.
I have used this a fair amount. It is alluring, I like the rose though sometimes I prefer a darker one. There is a spicy powder that reminds me of a fluffy sweater but a dark one though this darkness doesn't affect the rose much/enough. I have struggled for a while to find a replacement that is just a touch less feminine because I'm not always in the mood for intimate or romantic vibes. I like Oud Rosewood but its a bit warm, well actually it gets increasingly warm to here I want to disrobe LOL. I like to pair this with one of several romantic pheromones. LAL's Nude or Xs's XIST.
Another great review mate, love all your reviews and ive actually just left a Facebook group for bad mouthing you and your company. It's not cricket mate and something businesses should not do. Keep the reviews coming.
You are preaching to the choir. ATH for me is the only reviewer worth watching. He seems sincere and genuine. He reviews what he wants and buys. The rest are guns for hire and subtly push the same stuff.
Ima bomb your review with an offtopic:) My order from unicorn week has finally arrived. First and foremost, i would like to thank you for your generosity, the fact that you hit your customers with full sample set, along with 2 30 ml Free fragrances is so kind from you. The scents themselves are to die for. My only complaint has nothing to do with the service you provide, but rather with the whole brexit/vat ordeal which is a bitch:) Anyway, a big fat like for your work good sir. Keep up the good work!
Apparently the current version of this fragrance is much thinner. I’d recommend trying Oud Palao by diptyque which comes off a little more dirty and I like it better than the current oud isphan formulation.
I like this one but I somehow like the Oud Rosewood more. People say Oud Rosewood is very harsh, but I think in the air it smells softer than Isphahan. It has a leather-hairspray-fruity thing going on.
Ah Found it! you did review this, if you like this, please get your nose on Banana republic's Oud mosaic, it's pretty much an affordable version of this, slightly weaker and synthetic oud but has the same vibe for 25~50USD if you can find it still.
Briliant Francois Demachy the nose behind this prive. Aaron he was in house Dior parfumeur for more than 14 years. One of my favorites parfumer all time.
Love your reviews because they give me some notes to try to pick out myself, which to this untrained nose are not always apparent. I enjoy it, but my wife told me I smell like a porter-potty. Good thing I only have a 10ml decant.
To me a fine accord is the signature of a master perfumer. It takes thorough and intimate knowledge of raw materials to make them sing together producing something greater than the sum of its parts. Much like a pastry chef baking a cake. In this case can I just swirl some wood oils together and call it oud? No. Much like I can’t just swish spoonfuls of sugar and flour in my mouth and call it cake. If you can take something that isn’t oud and make it smell of oud you have my attention and admiration. That is what an oud acccord means to me anyway lol…
I think the price for the Maison Dior fragrances is really fair compared to other exclusive lines. You get wearable fragrances with a niche-like quality for let’s say around 1,50 per ml.
I know Aaron is not a fan or "clones or dups" however I would love to see his impression of Oud Touch. I couldn't get my hands on Ispahan so I purchased Oud Touch and love it. Sorry Aaron. 🤗
I truly love this fragrance. But it absolutely only takes one spray for me. I accidentally sprayed two times and was sickened by the smell. It is very lasting and can be overbearing if used too heavily. However, it is one of my favorites.
Have you tried anything by Orto Parisi, which is a second, sister brand of Nasomatto? You're gonna love it I think, you loved all the Nasomattos you tried. I know all the (available now) fragrances from both brands, I own Bergamask (24h monster citrus musk) that supposedly people say has Javanol overdose.
Thank you Aaron. I tried a sample of Oud Isphahan and I over sprayed it ( big mistake) before picking up my husband from the airport. Needless to say, we had to open the windows of the car on the way back and my hubby told me not to wear it again😆. He loves Dior perfumes but not this one. This is a strong perfume. It is a masterpiece, But, it did not work for me. I think it is the animal/ leather notes in it. I tried Oud Rosewood and I can tolerate it more and I like it better.
I dont pick up on Oud per se. However, i do pick up on Rose & lots of Animalics. Which makes me think of Raw Cowhide Leather. To my nose Oud Ispahan bears a slight resemblance to Tom Ford Oud Fleur. After watching your review i'll be wearing Oud Ispahan for Fathers Day for sure. Thanks for another awesome review.
@@fragrancemafia1778 you just gave the impression of not liking Oud. It’s totally fine with me of course. But for me it’s the complete opposite. I love Oud!
I have a dilemma with this perfume. I will get a 10 ml decant at a good price and thinking of getting a bigger one. I have never smelled oud in perfumes but i love incense sticks, the powerful ones and my favorite perfumes are ombre leather, mancera red tobacco and toy boy. Considering this, i should love this perfume right?
@@Smoke_C thanks for the sugestion, checked it on fragantica, i like the sounds of those notes. Regarding being afraid of oud, some people are comparing it to bug spray or all kinds of weird stuff and that s why i did not order more than 10 ml of ispahan. I mean i love heavy fragances but they need to have some sweetness in it
I JUST reviewed this on Fragrantica this week. Powdery, Lavender, Fruity, Floral, Dior Private Line-airy dna. Gorgeous youthful sexy quality fragrance, nothing groundbreaking, and picked up no Oud, scent changes during the drydown. Originally released in 2012, reformulated poorly weaker in 2018
