Reviewing the next of the Desert Gems collection, Promise from Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle. www.aaronterencehughes.co.uk Instagram - AaronTerenceHughes Music: Sleepdebt - I C U
Whipping through the base or smashing you in the face need to be lyrics in your next fragrance music video. Awesome review as usual Aaron, I always go to your channel to see your critiques of fragrances before I buy.
Great and informative review as usual Aaron! I must say that Promise is one of my all time favourites. It's so powerful and intriguing to my nose at least!
Aaron, you have superpowers. You picked the Ylang-Ylang which they didn't mention in the notes breakdown, but they mentioned the yellow floral Farnesol in the ingredients list near the end. If I understand correctly, pure Farnesol smells fluffy powdery yellow floral like Mimosa and if they want to emulate Ylang-Ylang, they just mix it with Benzyls to get that intoxicating effect.
Oh Aaron, I just got my bottle of Legend from MaxAroma. What a fragrance you have made. Gonna be wearing this for a good long while. Thank you, you artist you!
Hey I'm really interested in getting legend or maverick and just trying to choose. Can you describe legend a bit for me? Maybe similar fragrances or anything. Thank you!
@@Kris1up undoubtedly masculine, strong, intense. You start off with the lemon, bergamot beautiful pink grapefruit. The core is dry and sweet. And it is a tonka bean and amber but it is dry. The base is patchouli, oak moss and elemi Gum helps to give further tartness and a punch. Legend has the ambergris like raw materials. So this is a dry masculine against clean sweet Tonka.
So when I first got a sample of this I thought it was gross but now I've tried it a few times its so intriguing, its a beautiful fragrance to be fair. Also it lasts FOREVER
omg yes thats one of the first perfumes i spent a bit for, love it :) also Dominique Ropion is such a great technical perfumer :) PS. I bought it a year ago rn I'm not using it much, i live in hot climate and this needs cold a bit windy weather or it's too damn strong, After many wears i can see why it could be too smooth to some people like aaron said too
Heheh thank you for this review, been waiting for it since you replied last time heheh. I think it would be nice for you to review some of London’s oldest perfume houses like Grossmith’s Saffron Rose and Ormonde Jayne’s Taif Elixir. Rooting to know your thoughts also for Ex Idolo’s 33. 🖤
Dear Aaron, this is really my favorite from Frederic Malle. The Collection is called "Desert Gems" and The Moon and Promise are the best, for me and I own them both. Dawn and The Night are too animalic and to be honest, expensive for what they are. Stay healthy!
I just picked up 10mls of Haze Black and Onyx from Maxaroma. I've enjoyed your reviews for a while but this will be my first time trying your fragrances. Excited to see what those moving hands have made :-)
Just received my first ATH fragrances from MaxAroma today. Tabac and boss bastard. Both on a whole nother level from anything ive tried. 1 spray on each arm and I'm in awe, especially with boss bastard. I'm kicking myself for not trying any ATH fragrances sooner.
Amazing perfume, complex, very middle eastern and cypriol heavy. It projects like crazy. I never use more than two sprays and I'm set for a day. Nuclear. True, that it is very similar in "feel" to Elixir (which is the only Savauge worth trying). It is expensive, but it will take me a life time to get through the bottle. Certainly not your everyday wear.
Off topic: Could you do a video explaining the chemical behavior of top notes, heart notes and base notes, please? How are the molecules in each respective category different?
I have Promise and nearly fell over when I saw you pump all those sprays! I first sprayed it twice on my wrists and it knocked me out so much I hated it. Then I learned to spray it just lightly on my ankles and now I absolutely love it. Easily Lasts 3 days on my skin. Boozy apples
@@EemMiIiLlLl nope, ankles. It was a game changer. This stuff is so strong and intense to me, I need the distance so it diffuses somewhat before it reaches my nose!
@@IssyKew I heard spraying the achilles heel and/or the ankles makes or breaks the fragrance. It’s easy to smell something that’s sprayed on the neck/upper chest area, right up under the nose. Can’t really tell how well the silliage is by that method. But if you can pick up a scent trail off your ankles then you kno it’s a performance based fragrance
Hey Aaron, since anubis isn't on your website anymore, does that mean its no longer available? If so, i hope inthe future you make another raspberry like fragrance. Anubis was amazing.
I saw the 5 sprays at the start and prepared myself for the atomic blast. This is an absolute powerhouse of a fragrance. I own a 50ml and it's going to outlive me I think.
So true. I had a travel spray and I sold it I cannot think of an occasion for a women to wear this. Very Intriguing but a BEAST . Not mad at it though LOL.
@@Mz.M.2757 Oh I couldn't give a time or a place for a woman to pull this one off, it literally screams at you haha. Hope you find the right time and occasion, because it's a special, special scent.
Hey Aaron 🙋🏼♂️ I would like to recommend a perfume to you to test. It is Gold Collection - II Sahara from Widian / AJ Arabia. I'm sure you will really like it, because of its rich components. Best regards Max
I sampled this very recently and I do enjoy it but you weren't exaggerating about its potency. First time I sprayed it on my wrists, I was immediately hammered with the scent. Was like a dominatrix going to town and didn't give a shit about any "safe word."
Never been a huge ambroxen fan. (It's enjoyable, but it smells overused) My dad has a bottle of dior savage and it has that metal smell to it. Anyhow, I just bought a bunch of samples of frangrances and I love trying to smell the notes he points out
Thanks Aaron, I have 100 ml bottle of promise and I’m enjoying the creativity and uniqueness every time I wear it, this one is so good and unique, a real gem and it’s filling the room easily and have a great silage, for me it’s smells like putting your head inside a new luxurious leather bag, LOVEEEE ITTTTTTT SO SPECIAL.
@@hocineted7594 I’m 27 years old guy and yes some of their fragrances are so classic and I feel sometimes that they are not suitable for my age but the desert gems line is not classic at all, how old are you?
Promise took me over a week of wearing it to bed to fully comprehend the fragrance. I loved it but I didn’t know why and it felt so familiar but so new that I had difficulty understanding it. I absolutely love it and want to try to the other desert gems but after your reviews of those I’m hesitant. We have eerily similar taste in fragrance
A very contained review of an incredibly outstanding perfume that you know it plays in a different league. You think it's "fantastic" but "not for me".
Turkish rose a delight, full of Eastern promise. The real stuff is nutty aswell, it comes across as being expensive but if crafted well you get what you pay for. I must admit rasasi make some very affordable and extremely well made products.
@@martineleven8179 who are the biggest middle Eastern niche fragrance house that sell perfumes with real oud? Here in these west we talk a lot about middle Eastern inspired fragrances, I just want to get hold of a real fragrance from the middle East so that I can compare. Thanks
@@b4dmaash crickey, how long is a piece of string, BUT your best bet would be HOUSE OF ARABIAN OUD.... if you want some really beautiful oud go for ENSAR OUD, although it will have natural ingredients, real deer musk etc but it will literally blow your mind, it's extremely beautiful, it doesn't come cheap though,
Ordered a sample of Promise, but found it too acrid. Not sure if it should be part of desert gems collection neither..smells like stale cider on me. Solid no I'm affraid !
Not the common ones but some indie brands do not have those. And in the older days was even worse. I remember back then there were some perfumes that just said, "apply to clothing only. Do not apply on skin"
