Agreed but he should do the greats like Habit Rouge edt, Vol de nuit (only in extrait), L’heure Bleue extrait, Mitsouko Extrait, Bois Mysterieux (Songe d’un bois d’ete if possible), Heritage edt… etc.
I know you don't need me to tell you this, but your reviews are simply astonishing. Incredibly detailed, warm, personal, and watchable over and over. You have a way of dropping SERIOUS knowledge without seeming arrogant or self-important. Crikey. Just fantastic reviews. Thanks for making them.
Excellent review. Appreciate the intertwining of personal and scientific insight/info while maintaining an equanimity about this fragrance which you don’t particularly enjoy on a subjective level but praise in a professional manner. Well done and thank you.
I love, love your reviews. I love how professional you are reviewing fragrances you don't like. I like this fragrance but I only reach for it in formal occasions. Thank you.
Absolutely love this Aaron been wearing this since the 1980’s this is my go to if you design something like this or Sultan Vetiver by Nishane I’d buy it !
Thanks for always balancing out your personal preferences compared to the skill of the perfumer. I understand that some people do not like the strong woodiness of some vetiver. Guerlain is in my top 5. Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017 is my signature scent. The woodiness is perfectly balanced by the creamy smooth elemi.
My niece is also dyslexic and is also very artistic. She is an actress but prefers to do stage musicals over anything. My sister is a pediatrician and actually has said dyslexic people are often very creative.
I just discovered you about fifteen minutes ago, and have watched four of your videos. This review caught my eye because I own this and love it. My husband loves it on me. I know vetiver isn't often found in women's parfums but I like a wide variety of parfums and this is one of the best nearly straight vetiver parfums I have found. The middle and finish of this parfum is one of the things I like best. It is delicious, warm, spicy, and soft. Now after watching your video I will have to go back and wear it to see if I see what you see.
This was my first vetiver fragrance, then i moved onto Tom Ford Grey Vetiver which i found i liked more & which i still use. Value is good as you can pick this one up from online retailers for around £40
I can definitely see how you wouldn’t care for this. It is dated. But it’s been around for so long and is so loved by many in this community and it is for sure a benchmark for all vetiver that have followed it. For a long time I’d pass by this in a shop and think noooo to mature it reminds me of what a man wore in the 50’s or 60’s but then one day I passed to again and gave it a try and it just clicked. Now I love this and it will go with me till the end. For me it’s a pleasant sunny morning in the fall when things are peaceful and your away from the world somehow. Love it. But yes it’s nothing people will chase you down for.
Great review, Aaron, as always. I tried this about five years ago and didn't care for it myself although it seems to be highly regarded within the community. I might give it a chance again; tastes change all the time. From Guerlain, I absolutely love vintage Habit Rouge EDT. It is sweet, spicy, and has an animalic touch to it that is addictive. However, I haven't tried the recent formulation, I'm a bit hesitant to take a chance on it. Fortunately, I have a few vintage bottles tucked away although the vintage can still be picked up at a decent price. Your reviews are like sitting in a classroom, I always leave with new knowledge, which is fantastic!
Someone bought this for me about 50 years ago. I didn't like it. Four years ago I gave it another try, maybe I'd been wrong? No I hadn't. It was almost exactly the same harsh experience. I gave it away. About the same time I bought Habit Rouge EDP. Love it, but I don't know if that's any guide to the EDT.
@@Telssa1 I haven't tried the recent formulation of HR EDT, just the vintage. I've seen some reviews and everyone seems to like it. I may pick up a small bottle and check it out.
I was a fan of the old formulation, pre-2005 or so. That thing was nuclear, and managed to smell like a wet, cold cave wall even in the full heat of a summer day. I still have the old bottle with a little at the bottom and the atomiser still radiates some of it after 20 years.
massive Guerlain fan, hope to see a review of habit rouge, heritage and l'instant (Listerine bottles). not sure what the new bottle design smells like yet, heard habit rouge is completely different.
I've a love/hate relationship with the grassy vetiver scent. Must be well blended. Guerlain fragrances are nicely crafted however not every scent is a winner. Wear the glasses. You'll look amazing.
You should try the Vetiver Extreme version. Much creamier than this one. Guerlain are just an absolutely amazing fragrance house. The quality for the money is just awesome. You should do more Guerlain reviews Aaron..👍👍
I totally agree with you on this one Aaron, it's wonderful stuff, but not for me personally, I have an almost full 100ml bottle that sadly looks like it will be no more than an ornament on my dressing table.
Hi Aaron, I love all your fragrance reviews - thank you. Please can you review Guerlain L'homme Ideal edp and extreme version? I'd love to know what you think of them. Many thanks, Marc
This is my pick when I want to be serious and intentional in my outing. Job interviews, conferences, sales meeting. It makes me feel....Boss like. If that makes sense
With sober you can think of being clean, having clarity, being control and so on. I find it courageous that you took on this fragrance, given how much vetiver and you don't mix. You have one of the older boxes. The newer ones are wider, the older bottles are taller. Try L'Homme or L'Instance from Guerlain. Especially L'Instance.
Love your reviews! Love your perfumes, I'm working through the discovery set. Can you review Odyon Dubai Scorpion intense please which I think is overrated and I'd like your fabulous nose's opinion. Thanks!
Hi, love the insight, I just bought the best Vetiver. Hope you can review the PARFUM version Roja Vetiver homme. Sophisticated, elegant & sexy. It smells unique in Parfum concentration
This one I think the cloud and scent trail it leaves is better than smelling it up close and personal. I bought this as a blind buy and really didn’t like it but over time it’s grown on me and I find myself occasionally wearing it for work during the spring/summer. I still have mixed emotions on it though.
I love Vetiver - for a more feminine fragrance I layer Ralph Lauren's Vetiver with Krigler's Pleasure Gardenia - I might try swapping out the RL for Guerlain
As a lover of the classic french, how about New York Intense? Made by Patricia de Nicolaï, great-granddaughter of Pierre Guerlain and niece of Jean-Paul Guerlain but chose to go her own way. That will have you going absolutely bonkers. I hope! (Perhaps will feel a bit mature/classic but I am certain the craftmanship will resonate with you)
I recreated this frsgrence. My girlfriend loves it. I like it but feel it does smell very old school and normally reach for other recreations. Funny how the era of shirts and ties seem so antiquated but I did up until a decade ago.
For some reason my skin sucks vetiver dry and bc of it, i cant really enjoy vetiver fragrances as much as i should, despite loving the material so much. Thankfully we have Incident Diplomatique around, it’s my favorite vetiver and much bitter than many other vetivers. It’s also the longest lasting vetiver on me alongside Encre Noire.
Guerlain L'Homme Ideal is one of my favorite lines from the house, especially the EDP. Love that cherry 😋 Oh yeah, can't forget LIDGE! L'Instant de Guerlain EDP
Classic fragrance. Wonderful. I love fragrances like this which aren’t sweet, sticky, dense things. It’s a fresh spring breeze. Elegance. Not in your face, smell how sticky sweet I am.
It’s a vetiver that doesn’t smell of vetiver - i guess that’s why it gets so much hate as vetiver lovers are taken in by the name & expect a proper vetiver fragrance which they don’t get. I love Original Vetiver but its definitely not really a vetiver.
WoW, an honest review... Thank-You 👍 Also was recommended through a friend AND l hate it... Yes it's green fresh BUT has a seaweed smell to it, when the tide has gone out... sorry DudeS, l just don't like it... you were generous by giving an 8/10... l'll give it a 3/10
I heard that Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver was inspired by this (Not sure if that is true). Still not smelled this one yet. I have smelled Grey Vetiver but it wasn't for me personally (I think they reformulated it though). I'm more into warmer tones.
Like you pointed out I was not a fan; it’s very old fashioned imo. I’ve been round the block with vetiver fragrances. By far my favourite has to be Creed Original Vetiver.
Oh, yes, thinking in segments and blocks, unconsciously looking for patterns in everything, tell me about it. I'm not dyslexic, but my brain is similarly wired, hahaha. As I mentioned before, I might have (undiagnosed) Asperger's or at least traces of it.
I apply this fragrance, when I want to smell fresh, clean and professional. Unfortunately, I can't smell anything at the moment, because of COVID 😔 I hope my sense of smell returns, if not I dunno what to do :/ lucky I had a chances to sample maverick and raw cherry 👍👍 I really liked them
If you buy a bottle of something you don’t vibe with, will you over open it up and drop a few of your own materials in it to see if you can course correct it to your liking?
