Wonderful job on this video! I got into DIY perfumery about half a year ago, a bit longer. And this is exactly the kind of video I've been searching for. (Your channel and Sam Macer's channel are some of the best out there for newbie DIY perfumery folks.) I'd love to see a "Fragrance Family Showcase" type video from you. Example: "Fragrance Family Showcase: Citrus" where you cover the where, when and why to use different citrus ingredients, like as Bergamot EO, Lime EO, Lemon EO, Grapefruit EO, Yuzu EO, Tangerine EO, Mandarin EO, Sweet Orange EO, Blood Orange EO. But also synthetics like Limonene, Citral and others. And maybe have towards the end of the video an "aftershow" section for showing ways you can use Citrus in your blends, or as modifiers. Like using Patchouli+Grapefruit to give a chocolate orange scent. Or using Vanillin to soften the overly-bright/dry/crisp/sharp scent of Lemon EO. While these videos would be a lot of work, maybe you could work in collaboration with other RU-vid creators in order to get more information, host live streams about roundtable discussions, get more community involvement. High information-density educational videos to get newbies to "hit the floor running" will really grow the community quickly. Cheers.

Just discovered the utility of amber xtreme last night when I used it at 0.1% of the concentrate with benzoin (5% of the concentrate), vanillin, ionone gamma, and galaxolide. Now I can hardly imagine making a fragrance without it.

I must be ultra sensitive to Amber Xtreme because I used it at 0.1428% of my concentration and it completely overtook everything else. My perfume concentrate was 70 grams total and I only used 0.10 grams of the Amber Xtreme. It is THAT strong. Granted I used it at 100% concentration but still, I wouldn't think that low of a dose would have the much of an effect but it did. I will definitely dilute it down to 1% and then use the absolute lowest dose possible in my next blend.

Yea it’s all about what you mix it with. That is the mysterious magic about this. I’ve found Himalayan & Sandalwood along with galaxolide, and Jasmine seem to can tame it. But who really knows, it could be any one of the dozens of materials. Sometimes at a high dose it disappears. Other times at a low dose it’s still punching you in the face.

Do you find that the Amber Xtreme improves the performance and provides lift to the existing notes or does it just ruin the entire composition?

There is an arabic perfume oil which has a high dose of amber xtreme and little bit of white flowers. Its so strong but really nice.

There is a xerjoff that uses tons of this stuff. Had a guy a work you could smell 30 ft away. I was like hey I know that smell! They charged you $200 bucks to smell like that🤣?

It's so powerful and gives me headache. I have it at home and wonder what I can mix it with.
@wib6044

🤣. Yea I am not a fan. I’ve only made one blend with a tiny amount that it’s actually good in. Not sure what you can do in an already made perfume. If it’s an attar, maybe add some sandalwood oil and jasmine. If it’s bottled with alcohol you may just want to sell it. I can’t really stand it. My wife loves it for some reason.

Haha, my wife also loves it (at least the arabic oil perfume). I wanted to mix my own version of it, and I think you are right, Sandalwood could smooth out the harshness. Instead of Jasmin I wanted to try Honeysuckle and Nag-Champa. Or maybe... I have an indian Majmua Attar, that could work as well 😁
@wib6044

Ooh yea that sounds amazing! I want to use honeysuckle. I was looking for a Co2. Even a synthetic reconstruction would be nice. That would work well. Haven’t smelled nag-champs yet…

Is benzoin oliffac soluble in oil?

What is the proper way to dilute a material down to 50 parts per 1000?
@wib6044
@wib6044 Год назад
Assume 1000 is 1 gram. Divide 50 by 1000.= .050g Just multiply up if you want more. 5 grams alc. would be 1x 5 = 5 . .050 x 5 = .250 And so on.

Hi, I got a new sample of Benzoin ollifac and there seems to be a turbid cloudy haze in the mixture that goes away by shaking. Is this normal ? or have I received a batch that has gone bad ? I don't smell any off notes; but the solution looks like when aldehydes go off and have solids in the bottle. Thanks

thank you im learning a lot from you is there a place where i can ask perfumers about a materials used in a specific perfume not sites like fragrantica or basenote I'm looking for something more precise
@bkscents7050
@bkscents7050 3 года назад
Not that I know of, for most perfume formulas are kept secret. If you want to know whats in a specific perfume, you can send a sample to a lab and they can do a GCMS analysis on it and tell you exactly whats in it. phytochemia.com/en/services-2/

Hi I'm new to your channel and love sourcing sweet scents to add to my diy skincare and perfume, I've been told benzoin smells like vanilla but I'm yet to find something that does! Could you point me in the right direction of what to use please? Stay blessed 🙌
@bkscents7050
@bkscents7050 3 года назад
If your simply looking for a vanilla scent, the materials 'vanillin powder' or 'ethyl vanillin powder' are the standard go to's. But if your looking for a sweeter benzoin.....try Benzoin Oliffac by IFF. It's the sweeter more vanillic version of benzion.

@bkscents7050 Hi! I recently bought a 50 ml bottle of Amber Xtreme and it´s REALLY powerfull inddeed! My question is: is there a aroma chemical that has the same power but has the smell of pure ambroxan? I wanted it, but cant seem to find one, and everything i do with ambroxan has a very faint smell to it... Any help would be VERY welcome! Thanks
