If you can't afford a sigma, check the used market! I have bought a bunch of lenses used. Ebay, sellers with great reviews, or camera shops, or even amazon warehouse/used section!
There seems to be an avalanche of lower cost glass for the Sony apsc bodies now. Pity it's taken so long!& no thanks to Sony. I was looking for a lens wider than my legendary Sigma 16 1.4. Purchased a MF Samyang 12/2. Very happy with the quality and great for semi landscape or wider angles. Sure, cost more than this lens, but Samyang is not Leica $s and, really for extra money, you get a lens, well certainly I have, that will be kept for many years. My very bright red on my now a6400 makes it very simple to see what is in focus.
Yay lens review!! I’m very new to photography. Could you do a video on the difference between using a lens hood and not using a lens hood? Also, are they specific to brands of lenses? Since I have zero experience with lens hoods, I have no frame of reference for what to expect from that piece of gear. Thanks for making your videos! I have learned so much from you about the Sony a6000.
Lens hoods are primarily for two reasons. 1. Sun glare. They shield the lens from getting glare and causing flares. 2. They protect the lens in general. If you drop a lens with the lens hood the lens hood breaks first. Lens hoods are different per lens. Not sure why honestly. But the wide angle lenses have petal ones bc they’re...more spread out, and they don’t show up in the final photo that way.
Hoods need to be different for several reasons. Longer focal lengths need a deeper hood. Wide angle hoods are usually scalloped to 1 reduce the size, 2 they see wider to the sides, & 3 u usually the light is coming from above.
Sweet “swipe edit” in the montage! Did your process the samples much? I didn’t notice as much distortion in your samples as I see in my rokinkon 12mm shots, then again most of my shots with that lens is to capture as much of a room in my house as possible!
I have this lens ans ive only used it once. I just came to use it again and for some reason when i turn the apeture ring nothing happens. It doesnt change. The lens has fully clicked in correctly but its not changing. Any idea why? Is there any settings i can change? I already changed the setting to allow the lens. Thanks
Happy New Year Kyle, I hope you are doing better. Today I received a TTArtisan 35mm f1.4 lens from your previous video (it was on the slow boat from China since it was a Christmas gift). Its my very first manual lens. I have taken a few pictures with it on my a6000 camera but I feel slightly loss using it. In my tips n tricks I talk about turning on focus pealing. Which shows a color on screen that indicates what is in focus in the frame. Other than that the focus ring also has distance markers on it. So you can see how far or near you’re focusing.

Hey Bro, I'm trying to get into advance photography game. I learned basics of photography with a point and shot camera. Now I'm planning to buy sony a6100. Which lens should I buy for the first time in your opinion? I'm a student so budget is a issue here.
I would like to have a comparison between pergear and rokinon/samyang 12mm. In particular I would like to know if pergear produces distorsion or not, and which of the two lenses is the better one for landscape photography (I own the sigma 16 for ambiented portrait as well, but some time I think it's not wide enough)
I don't have the rokinon lens. Also, the Pergear distortion doesn't seem to be too bad at all. The one noticeable photo where there is distortion is the one of the dog on my couch. I was extremely close in that shot.
Thank you for the good and honest review! If you only have an APS C camera - and for portriats or vlogging - maybe the 12mm f/2 is good, but for architecture or landcape or real estate at f/2 the Pergear is not suitable. The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 is far better, and on full frame (Sony A7R3 for example), with a zoom of 1.2 is almost 20 mm wide, so it has almost the same covering as Rergear. Keep the good work - and the sigma 16!

@@kyletaggart of course! I can't wait for the series to return! To be honest, I think I like the Sigma 16mm the best between the two at least in video format maybe because im not used to wide angle lenses. Im looking forward to the other lens review.
I’m so used to the sigma, so I was surprised how much I liked the Pergear in that video clip. However I’m more of an auto focus person for video. This lens is so fun to use though!
@@kyletaggart I'm sure!! But I do appreciate the time you take to review lenses so people like me can get said lenses without going in completely blind, if that makes sense. The price on this lens is pretty reasonable as far lenses goes. I recently received the 55-210mm lens for Christmas and I absolutely love it so far!! Also, I do appreciate you taking the time to edit our photos (though I've never submitted the photos as I saw those videos after the fact) because you dont have too. Plus it gives me an opportunity to learn light room. So it's a win-win.
@@kyletaggart a question for lens made for aps-c cameras, have i to do 50x1.5 so a 75mm or no? I think i'll take the 28mm if it does look like a 35mm... i wonna do landscapes too just for have great photos of my city. I love your contents and all your video!!

I haven’t used vintage glass yet so I can’t say. I’d go with what you think may be a good fit for you. I also have done a review on the Pergear 25mm f1.8! 👍🏻
