You’re the first specialist I’ve heard cite 2 years with no period should be considered menopause and appreciate that perspective so much. It’s not a one size fits all.

Great news you don't have any of these symptoms! Hopefully it will be over soon. You can try cinnamon for the heavy periods. Take 1-3 teaspoons a day on the days you are bleeding (you can mix with water or food)

Hi Neha You do seem to be experiencing a number of symptoms! Have you checked this with your doctor? Other health issues can often appear around the same time as the menopause and also cause similar symptoms. I would suggest a general blood work to see if anything else is going on. If all is well then acupuncture can often be effective so worth looking into Best Wishes Eileen

I'm perimenopausal. I can't get my period to stop, right now. Last month, I only had pink at wiping for three days. So, I figured I was making up for it, this month. I know to eat for my hormones, but I can't find an answer to whether if I need more progesterone or estrogen to stop the bleeding. Any advice? I do have tiny fibroids and pcos, and I'm not concerned it's any medical condition, but hormonal imbalance causing it. It just don't know which hormone has to increase to stop the bleeding.
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk Год назад
Hi Caroline Unfortunately, it can be difficult to tell which hormone may be triggering periods as high oestrogen can do this but so can falling oestrogen! At this point hormone levels can fluctuate quite dramatically from day to day making it very difficult to see what's actually going on. However, fibroids usually indicate high oestrogen/low progesterone so that could be a factor. If the bleeding doesn't stop, it is wise to see your doctor as they may be able to give you non hormonal medication to ease/stop the bleeding; if it continues there is the possibility of ending up anaemic which isn't good for you. Best Wishes Eileen

I hope you are still replying to comments. I see a ton of information about heavy periods but almost nothing regarding periods that have become lighter, black in color, and combined with bizarre bleeding patterns. Like two weeks a few months then back to one week a few months. Never heavy. Almost not there. Do you have information on this? Is this normal perimenopause symptom? Does it mean thicker uterine lining? Too much progesterone?
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk Год назад
Hi This kind of scenario is quite common; for some women periods get lighter and further apart and dark/black blood often indicates that the womb lining has been sitting for quite a while. However, this could be caused by a number of factors so it is wise to get this checked by your doctor just to rule out issues such as fibroids.

Thank you for sharing this video ❤ I'm currently feeling alone in my experiences as a 34 & a half year old. It all started 2 years ago for me when I had a heavy flow for 2 weeks straight, I thought I was going to bleed to death. A Nurse told me not to worry, it's just due to my age. A Doctor said the same as my hormone levels were normal. I had an internal scan and was told I have a cyst on one of my ovaries. I'm now on a wait list to see a Gynecologist. I'm currently on day 9 of a heavy period after not having one for the past 2 months. My Mum struggled with her Perimenopause to the point she got a hysterectomy. I'm just hoping that what I'm going through is normal and that I'm going to be okay. I'm trying my best to self soothe and reduce my stress until I see my Gynecologist as I need treatment and answers.

A routine scan about 10 years ago found that I had fibroids and they hadn’t been a problem until, I was prescribed HRT. I’ve recently turned 50 and I’ve had severe Rheumatoid Arthritis since age 9 years. I was prescribed HRT by my GP over the first lockdown to see if it helped with some RA symptoms I was experiencing and it made me so poorly. I was bleeding so heavy every month, then every couple of weeks to the point where I began wearing incontinence pads to contain the leakage. After changing GP, I was referred to a gynaecologist who strongly advised that I stop the HRT as the oestrogen part was apparently feeding the fibroids, hence the bleeding. I’ve been HRT free for a year and everything has calmed right down. I have decided that as far as peri menopause goes, I’ll be managing it as naturally as possible, this is where Eileen’s advice has been absolutely vital. I have also found that my RA has improved. Thank you Eileen, I don’t know what I’d do without you. xx

BEing on oestrogens during menopuase is not a good idea for many women, progesterone alone can help better. I have fibroids, one was removed because being clear of any HRT therapy or other medicines or suplements it was causing lot of bleeding, but after being removed and because I was with perimenopause symthoms really ugly (still) it is incredible that no doctor never told me that being on estrogens can worse my condition, and two of them gave me to calm symthoms the oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone in low dosis but it caused me lot of worse symthoms and constant bleeding (less than before fibroids but constant and when period came was a haevy bleeding), so in short: I was the one (with lot of reading and observing) that realized that estrogens were not a good idea for me and only progesterone can help me with some symthoms and that was true. Women with fibroids issues never have to take estrogens during perimenopuase because the problem are dominance of estrogen that is causing the fibroids, maybe when you have years in the menopause can be of help but I believe that even during menopause estrogens can cause bleedings when women have this kind problems. All is test and error but having the correct information and the right doctor giving you advice everything can even easy.

@@AvogelCoUk I did check with my gynecologist, and an endometrial biopsy found “atypical endometrial hyperplasia”, which has a 8 to 40% chance of already having endometrial cancer. I was strongly recommended to have a full hysterectomy. It was very difficult to stand up for myself, but I asked for further investigation first. I didn’t want such a major, invasive surgery if it wasn’t really necessary. My gynecologist agreed to do a hysteroscopy with D&C. 90% of my uterus lining was removed and biopsied. This time the result was no cancer, no atypical cells, not even any pre-cancerous cells. He couldn’t understand what had changed in one month from the first endometrial biopsy in-office, to the second under anesthesia. He said this was a first in his 30 year career, but this is partially because nobody has ever gone against his recommendations before. So I’m sharing this to hopefully let other women know - get a second opinion, listen to your gut, and most of all don’t be afraid to ask for further testing before invasive surgeries. It’s very difficult in the face of the scary prognosis and recommendations, but I really feel like I did the right thing for me. I will need an endometrial biopsy in-office, once every three months for a year or two. They are painful, I can understand why some women might get the hysterectomy instead. But this is the right decision for me. Now everything is back to normal, just the spotting I mentioned originally mid-cycle.

I’m 48 and what’s been happening to me for almost a year now is the following: One regular monthly period Then some spotting about 15 days later after that period The following month no period no spotting, totally missed period Following month starts with light spotting almost as if I was ending a period then a few days later a full on period It’s so bizarre especially for me since I’ve always been regular and on the spot all of my life. Also I use to have horrible cramping and clotting and now that’s gone. No cramps or pain some clots but nothing like before. Have you ever spoken on things like feeling flat or kind of like life just isn’t the same at times? Seeing your children growing and needing you less a loss of interest or even desensitized to things? It’s tough because I feel like many of us with the current state of the world may be feeling these same feelings, old, young, male or female but I’d love to hear your thoughts as well as anyone else that would like to chime in. Hi J J Falling hormones can affect our emotions very deeply giving rise to feelings of disquiet, despair, feeling lost, not knowing who we are anymore or where we are in the world. It can also affect our ‘feelings’ for other people and we can end up reviewing our relationships in a different light. In general terms our hormone oestrogen keeps us connected to our family and loved ones and as this falls we can feel very insecure about our role in life in regards to others but also for ourselves and this can often cause confusion. The most important thing here is to realise that this is a phase or part of the menopause that you go through but it does end! I have also posted a couple of blogs on these emotional issues so hope they help! www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/lost-your-motivation-wheres-it-went-and-how-to-get-it-back/ www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/who-am-i-now/ Best Wishes Eileen

Extreme irritation, sadness and moodness and my chest feels like it's going to explode. Doctors here want to prescribe anti-depressants but the possible symptoms are very scary. Since middle school, I have been told my period problem is my age. Too young, too menstrual, too old. I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 27 via surgery. My endometrium is thick and biopsy was inconclusive, which apparently means I’m old. No one wants to treat endo and I am NOT getting an IUD. Not after a horrible birth, painful waste of a biopsy, bloody stools and kidney pain during menstruation, and pain from the age of 10. I’m done with gynecology. Besides, it’s not abnormal for me to be in pain and bleeding through pads and tampons together. I just invested in disposable undies so I can freaking go to work and I guess that’s the treatment for endo 🤷‍♀️.

Hi Cheryl This seems to be a standard answer, but if you are worried then please speak to your doctor Can you get pregnant with your tubes tied? Tubal ligation is one of the most effective ways to prevent pregnancy, with rates of pregnancy around 1/1,000 after the first year, and between 2-10/1,000 after five years. Although the possibility of becoming pregnant is low, the chance is still there.

Periods still more or less regular, no change in bleeding pattern or amount, almost no other symptoms of perimenopause.But as I know that hot flushes are symptoms of late perimenopause, I wonder if the change in cycle length was the first sign of perimenopause, that happened too early in my life.
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk Год назад
Hi Mona It is possible that you started the perimenopause then but this is quite rare to be so young. Flushes and sweats can be caused by so many other health issues such as overactive thyroid function, ongoing stress, vitamin D or B12 deficiency or even diabetes, so the best thing to do is see your doctor. They can test for these just to rule them out and maybe do a sex hormone test to see if you are perimenopausal Best Wishes Eileen

Why am I bleeding heavy 3 months after uterine surgery for polyp? I am 49. That lasted a few months followed by light but being a few days to a week late and then a few days early. This month is scarring me because I am on day 7. First 2 days were pretty normal flows then got heavy and yesterday and today it is slowing down but has not stopped. I am also having some cramping and I am getting easily angry. Excellent video, thank you. You explained peri better than anyone has. I had prolonged bleeding, along with irregular periods before hand, a couple of years ago and was diagnosed with simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. They tried to force me to get a mirena coil before diagnosis but I said no I'd make lifestyle changes, stop taking certain supplements etc. My 2nd biopsy came back the same, I saw a different Dr and he said there was nothing wrong with conservative care as long as I was happy. I had no symptoms btw, the irregular bleeding stopped just before the first biopsy and my period became regular just before the second. I'd started taking dim and put it down to that. Third biopsy came back all clear, the Dr I saw that time was amazing. The last biopsy came back as disordered proliferation of the endometrium. Again before the results the Dr was going on about the mirena. Surprise, the Dr suggested the mirena again. After researching this, it's basically nothing, I said no and my period remained regular until Dec last year. Had a very light and short bleed second week in Jan and I had a bleed last week, 7th of March. The bleeding again was relatively light and stopped for a day but I started bleeding again today. I'm wondering is it because I'd gone so long without a period and when it did come it wasn't heavy and that's why I'm bleeding. Could this be the case? My plan is to monitor it over the next few days to a week and if it hasn't stopped, I'll go to the Dr. I really don't want a mirena because any woman I've spoken to who's had one for gyne reasons, hasn't got on well with it. Fine for contraception though. If you've read this, thank you and I appreciate your advice

Thank you. I'm 46. I missed January of this year. Had one extremely heavy clotty cycle a couple of months prior. Besides that cycle, the rest of that year were on time, slightly shorter & lighter. In February, heavy heavy 4 day cycle, followed by one day of light flow. About 20 days into the next cycle, I woke up to a full period. That only lasted until the evening. A couple of days later, I was spotting. This morning, huge clots do not have much blood. The clots are an inch wide and 4 inches long. I have IBS, and the Dr thinks I have cyctis as well. Is this normal? I'm going to make a Dr appointment. What tests should I ask for and what questions? I've always had pelvic pain. My obgyn retired. He was great. My last obgyn told me it was mental. I am a rape/ sexual abuse survivor. I went through a time period when I had heavy bleeding a couple of years ago. I got an IUD. It helped, but it made me gain a lot of weight. I no longer have it & stopped gaining weight. I also have a large ovarian cyst 2 years ago. It burst, but my CA125 was slightly elevated. I was on the last day of my cycle for that blood draw. I had 2 ultrasounds at that time, and the cyst did get smaller. It was a very scary experience, and I'm always scared about ovarian cancer now. I live in America, and our healthcare system is for profit, and it shows. Can you help ease my anxiety. Thank you.

You can take 3 teaspoons of cinnamon throughout mixed with food or water for the days you are bleeding. You can also take our Agnus castus tincture - you take this one every day of your cycle and it is more slow acting over a few months but it is great if you are prone to heavy periods at every cycle. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/agnus-castus/ I would also suggest taking a gentle iron supplement like Flourodix to help avoid anaemia. Why not try a supplement called Sea Buckthorn Oil capsules, these are supposed to be very helpful for the lungs and don't forget to drink lots of plain water every day as dehydration is a major trigger with this too! Best Wishes Eileen

I'm 51 years old and I stopped my period for about 4 months and then it comes back with a vengeance. I've been bleeding for 9 days now and it's been really heavy, it's kinda scary.will it stop.
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 11 месяцев назад
Periods coming back like this is really common as you approach the menopause, however, they are not good for you and can cause anaemia. It is important to see your doctor as they may be able to give you something to stop the bleeding and also check that other issues such as fibroids, polyps/cysts or even a prolapse are not a contributory factor. Best Wishes Eileen

Thank you so much for this very informative video..I am 43, never got pregnant, always had dysmenorrhea but at age 40 I noticed that pain was more tolerable or no pain at all. Started menstruating at age 13. I have been having my period for 4 wks now, during the 1st wk, 2nd and 4th its only spotting but on the second it was very heavy and lots of blood clots, had to change tampon and pads every 2 hrs or so. And now, i am having dull ache on my lower back 24 hrs a day for 3 days now, very irritable as well, had palpitations once last month that was very scary. I am new to all of these, I thought it maybe all due to perimenopause. Now, I am convince that I have to go and see my dr very soon.

Hi Margs, This sounds like perimenopause flooding but definitely good to get checked with te doctor whenever you have excessive bleeding. Cinnamon can help with heavy bleeding, you can take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day while you are bleeding. You can also try Agnus castus as an ongoing remedy to help balance your hormones. I would recommend a gentle iron supplement like Fluorodix too to help restore iron levels after such a heavy bleed. I hope this helps! Hello thank you so much for his video ❤ I will be 40 soon and I have endometriosis I’ve been trough lots of stress last month and got my second period bc of the stress otherwise normally my cycle is 5 days long 28 days very regular but I blame that second period on stress as it happened to me before the problem is that the second period doesn’t stop it’s not heavy but bright red and steady it doesn’t go away 😢I’m on day 13 tomorrow will go to see doctor it’s strange bc my breast are very sensitive still I was ignoring it bc i thought it’s bc of the endometriosis Do you think it could be start of menopause? ❤❤❤sending love
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 9 месяцев назад
You're still a little young to be approaching the menopause although it can happen, especially, if other close female relatives started around the same age. Prolonged bleeding can be caused by a number of issues such as fibroids, polyps/cysts as well as endometriosis so your doctor should be able to make a proper diagnosis for you and offer the best treatment, if any is needed Best Wishes Eileen

Thank you so much for your help ❤I went to emergency here in UK - they did normal examination and no scan bc my blood said I’m not aenamic yet so that probably doesn’t make me emergency case and the doctor said the worst scenario it could be cancer or endometriosis but mostly stress yes that’s how insensitive she was I mean I had amazing cycle all year They gave me Tranexamic acid 3 times per day 2 tablets - when I saw the side effects I decided to not to take them and I booked myself for pelvic scan in private clinic I feel it’s stress I’m trying to calm down but I def feel like the scab should be done Don’t you think ? I hope all women here won’t go tru this we definitely shouldn’t be begging for scan that’s not very fair Thank you again for this video and your reply I really appreciate it ❤❤❤❤

I decided not to take the acid bc my period is not heavy just long and it’s 3000 mg per day which is a lot side effects are blood clots in the eyes and losing Color vision I am just listening my inner voice and I wasn’t feeling that is not right I feel these pills are given to kinda prolong the problem but not sort it out am I right ?

Yes, to your other question too, listening to our own body is very important! . Acupuncture can often work well in this kind of scenario so worth looking into.
