Now in my early 40s I have noticed a considerable change in my sleeping pattern. From finding difficulty to fall asleep, waking up in every 2-3 hours, going to the loo every time I wake up (I am still confused that I wake up for a visit to the loo or I am going to the loo because I have woken up?) then tossing and turning to get to sleep again which often fails and then leaving bed in the morning with groggy body and disoriented mind. Not to mention the negative thoughts and anxiety experienced at middle of the night when all of the family members and world is asleep while you stare at the celling. This mental burden is then doubled with a sense of guilt when a tired body and mind dozes off for an hour of sleep in the afternoon. Almost a vicious cycle one can’t get off. Thank you for assuring us that this part of a biological event and not some lack in us in tackling life pressures. I have just tried one thing- I can’t stop the bodily changes but at least I can stop my mind by making few changes in my thought patterns. So stopped feeling guilty if I take a nap in daytime or failing to wake up by 6 AM on some mornings and miss the meditation/exercise schedule. It’s okay. You have not been lazy all your life neither you will remain so for the rest of it. It’s a phase, let it pass. And yes, in some nights when I experience the long-distance relationship with sleep, I just put on my headphones, listen to some great motivational videos. Midway through it, I pass out 😄

I tend to naturally wake up between 4-4:30 am. It's so annoying. I never fall back to sleep either.

Im 57, still working full time. I am done with menopause. I can not stay awake in the evenings anymore and i am up at 3 am. I am making the most of my time in the morning, but I long for normal sleep. Like on the weekeds for example. I dont want to take estrogen now. I am very active. I walk miles every week due to pain in my hips at this age. It really helps but I cant seep to figure out the sleep. I get very agitated at about 7pm and I really could go to bed at 6 very easily. But then here I am wide awake at 3 am. I need an early morning job or something.

Hi Janice If you're in the UK or Ireland, you could try our sleep remedy Dormeasan. This contains the herbs Valerian and Hops which are known to help improve and give you a longer and deeper sleep. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/valerian-hops-dormeasan/ Best Wishes Eileen

I just keep waking up not really needing the toilet, but i do end up going as I'm awake.... would you recommend a little snack to help me sleep all night? And what would it be? I drink lots of water throughout the day...thank you very much. I think its down to my digestion...i take magnesium too.

Yes, I'd have a go and see if it makes a difference. Go for a protein/fat snack such as Greek Yogurt with some nuts or seeds or some berries, an oatcake and cheese or nut butter, a protein bar (but with no sugar) or something similar. Have about an hour before bed but no earlier. Let me know how you get on! Best Wishes Eileen

How long menopause last? I’m 60, my menstrual period started when I was only 9 years old and end it when I was 50 and I’m still having all this roller coaster problems..

Hi Ruby Still getting symptoms after 10 years is not so common so it is wise to check with your doctor. Other health issues can creep in at this point such as thyroid imbalance, anaemia, vitamin D or B12 deficiency, diabetes and heart disease. All of these can cause symptoms that are identical to menopause ones. Your doctor can test for these just to rule them out Best Wishes Eileen

Is it helpful to add pinch of salt to water for adrenal help?
@angiefreese7530
@angiefreese7530 Год назад
I haven’t slept full night in over a year. Wake sometimes each hour to two hours. When I wake often times I feel hot flash or like adrenaline is pulsing through me.
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk Год назад
Hi Angie We don't recommend this, unless directed by a practitioner, as high blood pressure can often be a silent symptom of the menopause so extra salt may not be a good idea. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Angie Maybe look at herbs such as Valerian, Ashwagandha or Rhodiola to help with relaxation to aid sleep.

Im only 38. My mom went through early menopause and i believe its happening to me. For the last 5 days, i can fall sleep, but wake a couple hours later and when my alarm goes off at 3 am for work, im still awake. For the last 2 years, my hair line has fallen way back and ive had HORRIBLE cold sweats on and off. Also, my skin is awful and ive gained a lot of weight! I look like a completely different person than i did just 3 or 4 years ago. I seen a doctor that said she couldn't find anything, but now with the lack of sleep, im 99% sure this is the problem and its causing depression, low self esteem, but mainly its causing trouble for me at work and daiky tasks. I had to leave work yesterday due to no sleep in 4 days! Its awful! Any advice will be much appreciated! Thank you!

I should also throw in ive been taking celexa now for about 4 months. I've considered that to be a possibility to the no sleep but foes not explain my hair, weight, skin, and hot flash problems. Also, if it is due to celexa, why just now after 4 months?
@AvogelCoUk

Hi AmandaLynn Yes, the age you reach the menopause can be hereditary. I would go back to your doctor and ask for a comprehensive thyroid test as the symptoms you are experiencing sounds very similar to underactive thyroid ones. A basic thyroid blood test often doesn't pick anything up and this condition can go undetected for a long time! Hope you get this sorted soon Best Wishes Eileen

Hi, I pray your situation has improved. I am also having sleep issues on and off. I believe imbalances in hormones are to blame. I read that intermittent fasting can help or the ketogenic diet. I will be trying intermittent fasting to balance my hormones. Praying the good Lord gives both wisdom and leads us to full healing and restoration. Blessings
