LET’S TALK PERIORAL DERMATITIS
In this video I talk about my POD journey and how it took a sympathetic aesthetic doctor to diagnose me after well over a decade of suffering. Shout out to @jacquiripley who was on the journey with me after our disastrous facials.
Products mentioned here @galderma Rosex 0.75% Cream my life saver and Elidel by @novartisuk - both prescribed to me by dermatologists. If you need an online pharmacy assessment and prescription then head to @superdrug or @lloydspharmirl 💕
@clinisoothe for cleaning skin and makeup brushes and sponges.
@larocheposay Toleriane and Dermallergo always on standby for me when my skin is playing up and a shout out to @cureluk too. For barrier repair I like @rhode and @skinceuticals @teamskinceuticalsuki but just opt for unfragranced and essential oil free.
Ps try to avoid the overuse of harsh acids and please don’t opt for ‘clean’ or ‘natural’ skincare as they often have the worst preservative systems and many dermatologists think the over complication of skincare and the rise in the clean skincare movement are accounting for the dramatic rise in perioral dermatitis…

Thank you for this! I've been suffering with perioral dermatitis for about 9 months now. It's also moved around one of my eyes. I'm 66 and used to have beautiful skin. I hope I can get this to go away, and I completely agree with you that a lot of it has to do with current skincare regime.

I watched your videos a couple of months ago when I had perioral/ocular dermatitis and tried the Rozex cream - this really did clear up my skin and I am so grateful for your advice. Before that, I tried zero therapy and other various methods which didn't really work or didn't clear up my skin completely. I was in a really bad place before I watched your videos which gave me hope, and I've now been free of PD for a few months! Had about 2 weeks where I got a flare up due to a sheet mask I tried, but I used the rozex again and it did thankfully clear up. If anyone is suffering from this condition, definitely try rozex and the other creams she recommends. Thank you so much Nadine, you have no idea how happy I am to have found your videos.

Thanks Nadine! That was super useful. I was having bouts of perioral dermatitis that turned out to be related to food sensitivities. I am also very sensitive to skin care products so it took me a long time to figure out what was causing it. Just a thought though for others, the original problem might be an allergic reaction to something you are eating. Also, for me it is not an immediate response so it was very hard to figure out what food was causing the problem. I definitely first started out by stopping all of my skin care and makeup. When that didn't clear it up I moved on to thinking about foods and eventually figured out I was allergic to almonds. Anyhow just another thought for sufferers. Thanks again for your super helpful info!

It was caused by gluten for me - turned out I was also coeliac which once I removed every trace of it from my diet hasn’t come back since (touch wood!)

I am just so happy that I came across your videos for perioral dermatitis! I have been dealing with a flare-up for at least six months now. The first time I got it was 2019. This time I went to a dermatologist. She told me in February that it is PD. I've always used hydrocortisone and now I know that is why my flare-ups last so long. But this doctor gave me prescription strength steroid! I have now stopped using that and requested the metronidazole cream. I feel like it's on the road to improvement now. Thank you so so so much for sharing what has worked for you ❤ it is helping

I’ve been having perio oral dermatitis for a few years it’s caused by over use of l skin care which gets particularly sensitive after a long haul flight. When I see the first sign I use a zinc face wash, azelaic acid and strip back my skin care to just a moisturiser. After a couple of days I’m good to go. Thank goodness for azelaic acid.

I lived with perioral dermatitis for a year, I never tried this cream, but I’ve been using the De La Cruz sulfur mask/acne treatment and it’s worked wonders. My Derm wanted to give me antibiotics, but I try to avoid antibiotics for anything that isn’t super serious. The sulfur cream made the Dermatitis disappear. I use it nightly while I brush my teeth to keep it away. I’m happy to hear this cream worked for you! Thank you for sharing.

Perioral dermatitis is also associated with Seborrheic Dermatitis, types of Alopecia and PCOS. My Derm prescribed oral spironolactone and topical pimecrolimus cream (not cortisone or steroid, but a local immunosuppressant.) Went away and never came back.

Fantastic advice Nadine! I’ve suffered with perioral dermatitis for twenty years and concur with you regarding treatment. Fortunately my doctor recognised it immediately and prescribed a course of antibiotic followed by repeat prescription for rozex cream . I’m extremely careful to only use the simplest and most gentle skincare and I check everything for the things that trigger my skin, fragrance, essential oils, alcohol and sunlight, so a good spf is important. Cleanliness is essential and never let anyone else use your makeup or brushes!

Thank you Nadine for sharing your wonderful knowledge!!! I have rosacea I take great care of what I use on my sensitive skin. I never use anything fragranced or even Essential oil! That sounds like a recipe for desastre! My skin started to flair up I thought originally that it was my rosacea but no it’s periodal dermatitis! I booked an appointment to my dermatologist and found out today! But thankfully my skin was a little relieved and I was able to wait for this appointment for 2 weeks … using this miraculous serum from la roche posay! I didn’t know they did a cream I will look for it too!!!! Thank you so much Nadine! I love your channel and videos they are a world of knowledge and wisdom!

Thanks to you Nadine, you diagnosed my problem when i had it. I think it was a Retinol3 product that caused it that id bought from a shopping channel. Our GPs dont even see patients. I had to send a pic and she prescribed me the exact one u said works for you. It took a while to get rid of it. She said to only use it for a certain time 6wks. Still took a while to go though. I cant use fragranced products either. Now I'm extra cautious of any new products and tend to stick to things that are for super sensitive skin. Thanks again for your fab advice. Xxxx

I’ve now got Azelaic Acid on prescription after having Hydrocortisone / Mizancole which made it worse. Azelaic Acid does help but I think I have rosacea now too. Which I’d defo stress triggered. My PD was triggered by coming off the contraceptive pill and it always gets better if I go back on it. Strangely enough essential oils aren’t a trigger as I find Emma Hardie skincare care one range I can use and it does improve my PD. Weird.

omg, Nadine, I have rosacea and 8 months ago all of a sudden I develop perioral dermatitis and folliculitis. I'm still in the process of battling with it. cannot for the life of me put any foundation on (literally, not my old foundations nor pharmacy foundations), which makes it even worse...I'm desperate. I've been through a round of oral treatment and ivermectin, and my derm told me it's not finished yet, so I need to start the oral antibiotic again. Basically, we think it was treated by some cortisone injections I got for my tendinitis... I hope it stops. thanks for sharing all of this.

Thank you Nadine. You’ve described my problem so perfectly. It’s in the marionette lines and I’ve tried so many things to try and fix it. I’m ashamed to say that I started using a dab of Vaseline Dermacare every day, morning and evening, because I’m scared to stop and have it come back. I can’t have the dry crusty itchy face again. Mine started, and is always triggered by, any type of facial tan product. Every single one. Would that sound likely? Might it be an ingredient in it?

I frequently get this and in the past found hydrocortisone made it far worse. I do use it when i have a reaction just for a day or so. However, i recently had swollen itchy eyes (won't bore you with all the details but after treatment the optician prescribed an alternative - Protopic (tacrolimus) which they say works better for the face than the body. Warning though, alcohol can cause a reaction. Around the time of my eye issues (inflammation, allergy etc), I bought Dr Jart Ceramidin eye which seems very good (though will never stop using Niod FECC which I love). Also just had a flare up around my mouth so this weekend I bought TO Soothing and Barrier Support serum along with their NMF+Phytoceramides. Will see if these help prevent future episodes. Its a never ending battle.

I think one of the reasons why it doesn't get better is that we dont know the triggers. Funnily enough i've had it for so long and searched so much I started to notice that it is very similar to others who have had it on their eyelids and said it's from gel nails / any other LED lamp manicures. So i stopped putting anything on my nails and the pharmacy said to try hayleve which is an antihistamine and that cleared up the redness pronto. I kept skincare at a minimum because antibiotics did 0 naught nada zilch to clear it up. Did two courses of 8 weeks over less than a year and it did not help. Helped with my acne but not with the PD. Then i realized they're kinda separate and i've just stopped the antihistamines 2 days ago and im even afraid to say but so far so good. Bear in mind i've not had anything on my nails for 3 months now. I will try the la roche posay toleriane(massive fan of roche posay) the only hesitation i got is over the price. 😢

I always have little red spots and overall redness around my mouth, I struggled with acne on chin and jaws so I've been on retinoids non stop and am always applying them around the chin area. I think maybe the retinoids worsen those lesions which if they are PD and not acne. If they are, it is a very very mild case. I also use Azelaic Acid prescription and does help with overall redness but not so much with the little bumps. I might try the product you've mentioned to see if it makes a difference to this lifelong problem

I did some research and other people were calling it a devil drug so I really wanted something else to replace using the doxycycline everytime. So I've been to my gp today and mentioned you and the rozex cream at first she said that's a cream for rosacea but let me check online so she looked and it was there on her screen that it can be prescribed for perioral dermatitis.
