The ending orchestral section is a precursor to the last song on the album Lune. The song The Way the News Goes also has a hint towards Lune as well. Their double album Juggernaut Alpha and Omega has a ton of different reprises and foreshadowing to melodies and lyrical themes that keep coming back throughout. It’s also funny that you mention Dream Theater, because one of the guitarists is also John Petrucci’s nephew.
This is actually a really old riff that guitarist Misha Mansoor had created in his youtube days and gave it to spencer to work his magic on it, and he fucking nailed it, unbelievable how dynamic the melody and lyrical structure hes able to apply to it, plus adding so much passion, love it
@@jonathanchandler9310 Actually, this goes farther back than Misha's youtube! Jake Bowen wrote the original chorus riff from this in Highschool before showing Misha years later and he put his little twist on it. So technically... Absolomb is the oldest Periphery song ^-^
@@jonathanchandler9310 A fan page that all the member were in awhile back. When the album came out I think it was Misha that said that about the riff. Either him or Jake ^-^
daaamn I was just going to recommend songs from this band, now I'm double motivated. Periphery - Stranger Things, it is the last song of their Concept album Juggernaut and in my opinion that's easily their best one.
Spencer is an incredible vocalist. It their song satellites he hits litteraly a G5. I can even wrap my head around their vocals. Easily the most talented in this field
Please take a listen to their new album, specifically Reptile! One of the best songs they've ever written. If you like his high note then give Satellites a listen. Gained a new subscriber!
This song and album I feel like holds a special place because this was a time when my life was changing a lot my best friend stopped talking to me but I was also turning my life around for better. Really good/nostalgic album for me.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Music is a really powerful thing, esp. when it comes to nostalgia and bringing us back to a place/time. Happy for you turning life around man. _Keep moving forward._ -KSG
That was a really good tune. It's like a flavor variety pack, something for everyone. I would like to have seen them condense it closer to 5 minutes, but sometimes 7 lbs of stuff just won't fit into a 5 lb sack. As always, another great analysis. Oh, what's with the lighting? You guys have a light box rig, don't you? Way too good. Props to the gaffer. Also I want to strongly suggest Gary Clark Jr.'s "Pearl Cadillac". Trust me.
Fire from the Gods - Excuse Me or End Transmission Dance Gavin Dance - We Own the Night, Inspire the Liars or Blue Dream Good Tiger - Where are the Birds Architects - Doomsday Karnivool - All I know or COTE Dead Letter Circus - One Step, I Am or Cage Just some things to check out
Sounds like these guys can do anything. Very maniacal. A supremely talented group for my first listen. Love the strings. I got hoarse just listening to those mad screams. 3.0
some people just can't hear the melodic chord progression when the vocal first in, it really is suit the vocal. It's so quiet but more obvious in the bulb version of absolomb. but when you hear it, you can't lose it
Lune is a great song to listen to directly after this song. The end orchestra and piano references the song. Also loved the Skillet Comatose reference at the end haha
Album listen: Actually, listened to the first two, because I wanted to get into this band for some time, now. I could do without the growls. Can't distinguish their songs, so far. But I like this djent thing quite a bit, at the moment.
For the ending question, Periphery is WAY heavier than Dream Theater. I always prefered periphery because theyre songs are shorter and have a lot changes and I just really love this band.
I like how you mention stuff like: hope its not too long, or this song is 7 minutes. Man, that attention spawn. Not every song needs to be 3 minutes :D
Might be the playback, but there's a few too many effects on the vocals. Not talking about pitch correction. I don't know what the word is. What's the vocal equivalent to fuzz on guitars? Other than that, there's pretty much everything in here in terms of dynamics, breaks, tempo changes...I think? There's a song in this, compared to that TesseracT video I've just watched. That outro - no matter if it's a transition or not - is very subdued and simple in comparison. Could do without. Mentioned it several times, but the only band I listened to that compares to this is Oceansize.
Like TesseracT, now I also love Periphery, of course. They seem like twin bands. However, they have far more tracks with harsher vocals which I cannot take. This song is one of their best and most complex. And yes, it IS the playback. The album track is fine.
