Before the screams just sounded like he had a cold and had only just learned to add basic fry distortion from a yt tutorial. Now they sound fucking epic. Keep it up spencer
I actually can't believe anybody listens to this and prefers the original lmao, he's just so much better now than he was before, I really would kill to hear the whole album re-recorded.
The original is the original that people fell in love with. This isn't THAT much different. It just doesn't have pitch correction as much as the first album. I can still listen to the first album just fine.
PERIPHERY DOESN’T STOP GIVING!! Damn I love this band. Also it’s hilarious reading the keyboard vocal teachers critiquing this lmao get over yourself. Spencer’s vocal performances have transcended this universe and are now of another dimension. He’s a god
Some of the inflections leave a little to be desired compared to the original. But overall it’s better, as a new periphery fan (got into them December 2022 but have listened to nothing but them for 6 months) I actually really love the purity of the p1 vocals. P4 got me into the band, and I absolutely adore p4, but something about the og p1 feels so… unique. I love it. He added some changes and inflections that take away some of what i loved about the original, but the sound quality is amazing
Lyrics: In sunshine's view The absence of love Behold what's blinding you Serpent or dove Between uncertainties Tethered wings and captive dreams aren't worth the suffering Open your eyes Devotion deprived Deny the very thing that you've accepted this life is about Listen to my words Defy devotion Sick from the fall behind the wall So I demand of you, stand up and see Before they saw what I was becoming Before it kept me form reaching The light Can't seem to understand it Can't seem to know Listen to the vacant soul The child has lost his way Tension Suffering the hole Something against me I won't try Never again I will not remember Between the lines I sing with doubt Behind this will fall Lost in night and day Breathing for me Listen to the way I enter the world In time this lie will become me The things I've done to forget my dying senses Weary from this act alone In vein six days away Return from the fall Just find a ray of light to help me ascend That is the only way
Overall it sounds better. There are a few points that I have some complaints about not being entirely true to the original, but overall it’s better I’d say.
Some parts of this are better, but IMO the original is a little better. I even liked some of the change ups in this too, but I prefer how he held certain notes and did lower screams in the original
Parts of the new vocals for the P1 songs are really epic, and parts I don't love. The screams are great but the cleaner parts are aggressively whinier than any other record. Which to be clear I don't mind on the other albums, but it seems really out of place here. I love Sponce and absolutely agree with Misha's decision to keep him.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YKAHXMWFhtk.html I go back and listen to this at least once every 2 days. Its only up until the first chorus but its so good
@@ethanbatts I think the reason has to do with public safety. this level of heat going unchecked would probably fuse the whole atmosphere into magnesium and end the world
He's definitely gone poppier as Periphery progresses. I love this band, but P4 is their weakest effort with weird songs like Crush and It's Only Smiles
@@drumsno I thought Crush was interesting with it's electronic components. It's only smiles, being a happy upbeat song about Spencer's sister's suicide definitely had it's place on that album which was overall pretty dark. Fans had the same opinions on every album since P1 though, so your comment isn't surprising.
@@osnad First of all, it's about Spencer's sister killing herself, yet it sounds bright and poppy so it's weird with no debate necessary. But then in terms of a Periphery song it's also weird. It starts with a video game type synth, and it's basically a pop song with some heavy guitars. If you don't think it's weird, you must be weird :P
The original version of this song is so much better. I think that a voice so high doesn't fit with Periphery's old songs. I listened also Jetpacks was Yes and all new materials with new vocals and i didn't like them.
Alot of people it seems feel that way, personally I love the re-records of the vocals, Spencer is my favorite vocalist of all time, and with that being said I do not like his falsetto that much on P1, it's very flat and nasally, his vocal chording and articulation on these tracks to me are alot better.
@@Sattylites I think Spencers my favorite metal vocalist who does a lot of clean singing and screaming, but when it comes to just screaming, Joe Duplantier is my favorite. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lljzVaKHxoQ.html&ab_channel=GojiraGojira
Exactly what I was thinking. Glad someone pointed it out. It's hard to explain but it kinda feels like he's making his voice "tiny" if that makes sense.
@@coldmoonlight6361 i know that Spencer's voice has always been high but i don't like when he sings with this tone so nasal like in this song. This is the way because i don't like songs like lune or catch fire. I know that my english sucks, i'm sorry
Barreto's track blows this out the water. They are in the wrong direction with Spencer. Always have been. He's disgracing this awesome track, unfortunately. It's a night and day difference for the worse. I can't believe nobody sees this haha. I give him credit for trying. He sounds like a nasaly toddler. blah blah I know he has skillz but he has a pop singer register but in a metal band?! wtf.. They should just go on instrumentally if the original guy or Barreto won't come back. It has to be said how wrong Spencer is for Metal.
This ain't it, chief. While comparing artists on the same material is inevitable, claiming Spencer "disgraces" the track or is entirely "wrong" for Periphery is subjective and dismissive. Both singers bring unique strengths and interpretations: Chris Barretto: Brutal, aggressive vocals, often described as "demonic". Fits the heavier, harsher side of Periphery's sound. Contributed to the early "shock factor" of the band. Spencer Sotelo: Diverse vocal range with clean and harsh styles. Melodic, catchy hooks and harmonies. Offers a wider emotional spectrum for the music. Addressing Specific Criticisms: "Nasaly toddler": This is an unfair personal attack that disregards Sotelo's technical skill and stylistic choices. Vocal styles are subjective, and Sotelo's approach contributes to a different feel for the song. "Pop singer register": While Sotelo utilizes clean vocals more prominently, Periphery's music remains firmly within the metal realm, incorporating heavy instrumentation and breakdowns. "Wrong for metal": Metal encompasses a vast spectrum of sounds. Sotelo's vocals push the boundaries of the genre while retaining a clear metal influence. Ultimately: Enjoying one version of the song more than the other is perfectly valid. Claiming objective superiority or dismissing an artist entirely is subjective and unproductive. Recognizing the unique qualities each vocalist brings to the song fosters a more open and respectful discussion. Spencer was also the missing piece to the puzzle that is Periphery, and Misha saw that! That's why (and for many other reasons) Barretto was sacked. So do us a favor, keep the bickering to yourself! Go listen to Monument or Ever Forthright (if you already aren't) if you prefer Barretto's vocals so much more. Remember, music is art, and appreciating its diversity is key.
