The Perito Moreno Glacier is located in Los Glaciares National Park in the southwestern province of Santa Cruz, Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in Argentine Patagonia.
The 250 km 2 30 km long ice formation is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, located in the Andes system, the third largest reservoir of fresh water in the world.
Although most of the world's countless glaciers are retreating, one of the few unusual glaciers that is maintained in a state of equilibrium is the Perito Moreno Glacier because it continues to gain mass at a rate similar to that of its loss. The cause remains disputed by glaciologists.
The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 km wide, with an average height of 74 m above the water surface of Lake Argentino. There is a total ice depth of 170 meters.
