He's still young and this is exactly the trait of young players. They tend to play good when ahead. And lose all sh*ts when behind. Giannis on his way up was like this too. Giannis now plays the same regardless, just kept his motor running and kept the effort up. There was a reason Boston were in 3-4 East CF with Tatum and Brown. They have the talent to will their team, but talent can only take you so far. Boston need to reflect on the fact that they had to scrap to win against hobbled teams to get here, this was their chance to win one now. Next year with everybody retooling and getting healthy, this opportunity may not even come around. This was their championship to lose, and they did spectacularly.
@taiwanisanindependentcount7731
You are being too harsh on Tatum. Tatum himself said one cannot have a great day of work everyday. Someday it will be great, someday it will be mediocre. But everyone expects Tatum to perform at highest level every frickn day. Even Curry does not deliver every frickn day!

Also, several games were winnable in the 4th and Tatum couldn't produce. Games 4 and 5 were still up for grabs and Tatum scored a grand total of 2 pts in 4th quarter of each of those games. Take out game 3 and I believe he scored a total of 6 pts in the 4th quarter during the Finals. That's a problem. Hopefully he learns from this experience and can find another level, Because the tape is out there to how to defend Tatum.

Stop beating up on Tatum. I blame the Celtics organization for trying to turn Tatum into a point guard. They changed who he is as a player. Now I always thought Tatum had flaws in his offense when a bigger defender is guarding him and thought Wiggins would do well against him since he has the length to disrupt his shot. If you ever watch big scoring games with Tatum, example Bucks, he has switches where he is matched up with a undersized/shorter player. In the Bucks 43 point game, Bud had Grayson Allen, George Hill, and Jrue guarding him during that outburst when it should have been Portis or Giannis. Now to my critique of the Celtics. In the off season, I said the Celtics would go to another level if they did everything possible to get Lonzo Ball. I thought he was a perfect fit for the Celtics because both Tatum and Brown are great defensive players and with Williams now playing elite, it would have been off the chart defensively. I think Zo would have unleashed a phase of Tatum's game that has never been seen. He's a athletic high flyer but you can't see that now. Tatum and Brown should be in the open court running and gunning. I didn't want Zo on the Bulls because I saw him getting hurt covering too many players defensively. The Bulls are weaker defensively. Unless Patrick Williams turn into Kawhi 2.0, Zo will never be healthy. He needs a team that is already set defensively, which is the Boston Celtics. He would turn Tatum and Jalen into the leading scorers in the league as they would easily get about 10+ each of easy baskets a game. They are working too hard to score. Open it up! I wish there was a way to get Zo. Last season, I said my top location for Zo was the Celtics. I saw a perfect fit. Not saying the Bulls aren't good but they are weak defensively. Zo would open up the court for Jalen and Tatum, both athletic. They shouldn't be playing in the 1/2 court all the time. With Zo, Tatum would be the leading scorer in the NBA. Right now, the C's offense is predictable.

I always revert back to my favorite NBA player of all-time, the Big E, Elvin Hayes of the Washington Bullets. When Hayes was traded to the Bullets in 1973, he was expected to lead them to a title. Hayes and the Bullets came up short four straight seasons in the playoffs; with the worst loss coming at the hands of the Golden State Warriors, who would swept them 4-0 in the '75 finals. Hayes was the scapegoat everytime Washington came up short. Even when they won the title in '78 over the Seattle Supersonics (4-3), Hayes was criticized because he fouled out on a bogus call in Game 7 after scoring only 12 points. However, the Bullets were a veteran team that had their share of playoff meltdowns, but in the end Hayes helped lead the Bullets to their only title. I say all of that to say that: there's still time for Jayson Tatum to win a championship in Boston. It was obvious that the Warriors were the more experienced team. Boston's lack of a true floor leader really hurt them throughout the series. Hopefully, management will bring in a true point guard to help settle things down in crucial moments. I think the Celtics are in a perfect position to get back to the finals in the next two years because the East's other top teams (Milwaukee, Miami, Brooklyn & Philadelphia) will definitely make some household changes. Overall, I can see Tatum taking that next step to get to superstar status. His poor performance against the Warriors will be his motivation all summer.

I had a lot of respect and love for Tatum since the beginning of the Playoffs. He showed up big time prior to the Finals. But in the Finals series it's as if he ran out of super soldier serum. He was useless and terrible. He air balled like 6 times in game 5 and missed both free throws in 4th quarter. To lose that pivotal game when the Celtics actually had a chance is terrible. Then in game 6 he was just as bad on both ends of the floor.
@ballguy1509
@ballguy1509 Год назад
He didn't run out. He had a lengthier play on him.

As a Celtics fan, I always thought Brown was the better of the 2. He definitely has more drive in him. He needs to work on 2 things - ball handling skills and developing that alpha/mamba mentality. Yes he is a good team player but to defer to Tatum being the #1 guy shows lack of that alpha mentality. Hopefully he works on those 2 things and become the #1 guy on this team. Tatum seems more of a 1B/#2 guy.

I'd much rather have Jaylen Brown. When hes struggling, he puts his head down and goes to the basket hard. Tatum just turns the ball over and tries to shoot his way out of a slump. Notice how he doesn't even ask for the ball when he's struggling. Tatum is just a more marketable player but hes overrated and I hope Jaylen leaves Boston so we can see how good he really is.

@@rb6168 That means at least half think Brown is equal or possibly even better. It's the national media that chose Tatum to be more marketable than Brown (from UC Berkeley of the Pac12). I don’t watch the East much but all I kept hearing was how good Tatum was…I saw great athletic ability but that was it. He has so much to learn about how to play this game before he will be capable of carrying a team to a championship. He didn’t play well but even more, he didn’t seem as bothered by his poor play as he should have been. I didn’t see any heart out of that kid. Few thoughts. I think Tatum’s shoulder bothered him a little more than we know because he missed a lot of open shots, not an excuse though. Wiggins played amazing defense all series. With that being said if you’re first team all nba you gotta find a way to score in different ways, and if you can’t score you have to find a way to draw attention, play make, and still impact the game to give yourself a chance. Even Steph’s worst game this series he created shots for others and impacted winning. Tatum will be better, but your weaknesses get exposed at the highest level
