I am rebuilding an AD3.152. I've enjoyed your videos since I've never seen a rebuild video for these engines. I did not record my rebuild, just took photos. I put a new bottom end and top end in it. I just started the engine a couple weeks ago, It fired pretty quickly. thanks for the video.

On the old Mack's we would use a block of wood and a jack to ease the sleeves out. To return new sleeves we would have the in a freezer over night well below freezing and they would slide right in. When they would warm up they were tight.
@jonathanstancil8544
@jonathanstancil8544 6 лет назад
Todd Outdoors this works as well on these engines. Dry sleeves, freeze overnight and a little oil on them. They go right in with a block of wood and a medium hammer tapping them in.

These are great videos. I love the teardown....can't wait for the rebuild! Just a humble request: Could you maybe bring the volume of the background music down a tad?
@jw4620
@jw4620 6 лет назад
You have excellent content. You do not need music.
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 лет назад
Thanks. I'm glad you think so. The analytics and my watch time show the music helps keep younger viewers from clicking away at 3 minutes.
@bdrichardson403
@bdrichardson403 6 лет назад
Hmmm...interesting about your findings on the music/3 minutes. I don't care for the music being as loud as it it... but I'm 70. Also, in taking off any gear, you can leave a bolt backed out to just a cpl threads but leave it there while you pull and bang on the gear. Then when it comes loose it won't fall on your toes or hit the floor and chip the finish. Love all ur vids, Super B

Loose oil pump screw!! wow That was a bomb waiting to go off. Where that screw is, the pump is trying to suck oil. With air being easier to suck that is what could of easily gone into the bearings vs oil. Very interesting disassemble.
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 лет назад
Hey Kenneth, that pipe goes from the pump output up to the spin-on oil filter. It was definitely losing oil volume.

I just got the BlueDriver OBD 2 device and the app. Have you done a review on that? I got it on amazon for a $100. Seems like a solid tool. Good for starting mechanics.

What problems did the engine have if you resorted to disassembling it
@markthefarmer

Can you just tell me the corect way to take away high presure pump that wasnt on a video do you just tight it with a bolt and than just take away or you nit to line the gears first and then take the high preasure pump away ?
@zekrar5340

It hydro locked due to startingfluid/diesel left in the cylinder.

I have a question what can cause a school bus engine to overheat driving for over 2 hours one of the buses at my school overheats after an hour maybe two hours or over 2 hours and it ends up shutting down and the emergency brakes lock what causes the engine to overheat even if it has the radiator fluid in it somebody I talked to you yesterday could be the thermostat but what is your opinion on it

I have seen vids of guys cutting them out with a long chisel & a hammer , but i would be afraid of damaging the wall behind the sleeve. Excellent vid & THANKS

Brian it is absolutely imperative that the lifters go back in the same holes, Because each lob on the cam wears them differently & if you mix them you will damage them & the cam ! Now I realize you probably know this , but you did not show you storing them in order, & you viewers need to know this ! I learned this at ,, 4 BT Swaps & since l did not do it , had to buy new lifters , cheaper than having them ground!

Starting fluid used alot. Perkins don't start in cold weather easy. Use wd40 or propane to start.
@bbogdanmircea
@bbogdanmircea 6 лет назад
Now the question is did that loose bolt cause oil problems which destroyed that Piston, or they are unrelated ?
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 лет назад
I bet it contributed about 20% or so. The main issues were idle time, starting fluid, and no air filtration.
@AntonioClaudioMichael
@AntonioClaudioMichael 6 лет назад
bbogdanmircea I agree questions is did the loose bolt cause the piston failure
@UnchokedStroke

Just rebuilt 4.236 this past week sent the block out to have sleeves knock out and new pressed in. Head also had new valves and springs and head decked. Thing runs like a champ. Also had piston failure on number two.

Super B, I'm reading that the music is a problem for you...how to suit your viewers. Have you thought of intermittent music? Loved the BFATE too. Plus, BFATE is so easy to type :-)

I have. My wife suggested that. It's so hard to adjust the volume. I spent about 4 hours training and testing on it. I should be able to fix it. Just way too many irons in the fire right now with sheeting the building and tons of work lately.

funny, I am a mechanic and am thinking of getting a paramotor. also, if you can save your used atf, it is better than diesel fuel.

Why do these engine stands not have bearings? This would make turning this around much easier.
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 лет назад
It's stronger without them maybe? The little bit of friction is probably safer. The cost of production is definitely cheaper without bearings.

What brand sockets do you use?
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 лет назад
What don't I use? I use HF, Snap-On, Husky, Great Neck, Stanley, Craftsman, MAC, Powerbuilt, and whatever else. In my garage tools aren't sacred and I'm not a fan boy either. I'll cut a socket without hesitation to build a new tool if I need it. (usually a HF)

So what makes the diesel sound??
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 6 лет назад
I love that question! That's a great video idea. The short answer is diesels ignite harder and are more efficient with less restrictive exhaust back pressure. So the bigger and less restrictive their exhausts are the better they run but this is louder and less muffled they are. That's half of it. And the diesel fuel is more energy dense and produces more torque at the crankshaft when it ignites. You get more bang from diesel oil/fuel than gas. That's also why diesel engines are so much heavier and heavier duty than gasoline engines. Aluminum often doesn't hold up to the repeated shock or the heat associated with that harder diesel fuel punch. Does that help?
@FishFind3000
@FishFind3000 6 лет назад
DJ.Spikes Hostage I’ve also seen a video where they put a tune on a 24 valve 5.9 Cummins and they turned off the pre cup that shoots a tiny bit of fuel to get the burn going before the main shit and that made us sound like a 12 a live 5.9 Cummins it was much louder and more noticeable.

Also, the mechanical injection pump on some of these older diesels contributes some of the rattle to these as well.

Hey Matt, thanks for B-mobbing the first comment! I can re-edit / upload a music free version I think without getting robot booted. I could do kind of a no nonsense one and see which one does better. Generally younger viewers need the music or they only watch 3 minutes and bounce. I have to get watch time to keep in the RU-vid game. I really do appreciate your feedback. Part of the audio issue was exhaustion, depression, and interruption. I had to jack up the audio to max because I was mumbling a lot. There was and is a lot of B.S. going on right now and back when this was filmed.

briansmobile1 Yes youtube can be a real struggle & frustrating, I’m just trying to get my own channel going & it is a lot of hours invested for very little return but then it seems worth it for the people I’m meeting in the process & the enjoyment of sharing what I do. Hope things pick up for you soon.
