I have just read the reviews about this Turandot and all of them were about "Amazing performance", "Anna was the real star with crystal high notes and a deep bottom". It is so sad but if the public keeps clapping this shit, this is not gonna change. THANK YOU for the video

Corelli and Nilsson are rolling in their graves....YES, WITH LAUGHTER! As I do with Netrebko since years and even more when she was young and her fans where hearing with their eyes....

I predict she'll be singing as a mezzo into her eighties and start a new career like Plácido Domingo. As long as she gets paid she'll be singing in one tessitura or another.

the worst thing Netrebko did to Opera was to push Yusif with her, he should be a pop tenor like Bocelli, singing Sole Mio with André Ries

Who is that louzy opera director that plays individually without care for the singers? In the second high C from "figlio del cielo" you can hear a delay from the orchestra to the singer of about 3 to 4 seconds. Where they playing on separate rooms or he just doesn't care for singer's breath?

Another one holding the knife killing opera is Jonas Kaufmann...also only for people listening with their eyes...

As russian i feel so bad for this. Never heard their "Gli enigmi" before. Always wondering how bad it can be. And OMG it is even worse than i imagine. Eyvazov is LITERALLY just opening his mouth without a sound at all. What a great modern opera, LOL.

Now I find that she is going to be singing Turandot at the Met this season. With her husband as Calaf. But I won't be able to attend. I'm busy re-arranging my sock drawer and soaking my comb on those evenings. Plus, I'll be listening to my Nilsson recording of Turandot.

Anna was absolutely beautiful and wonderfully sounded… when she was younger. Then, she met her nowadays husband and that magnificent opera fairy had disappeared. Which is very sad. Very sad.

What's next for this destroyer of opera? Brunnhilde? Isolde? Any disaster is possible for NetrebCow.

As someone who loved younger Netrebko and even travelled to go listen to her and even briefly met her in person... Seeing her decay to this hurts so so much...

I can now tell you Netrebko is not only wobbly and often off pitch, she even often got an inverted vibrato. (Check also Rebeka Lokar, Karola Agai and Desirée Rancatore who all have very interesting high notes sounding like car alarms 🚨)…

All I can hear is her wobble. I have no idea what words she is singing. When a singer only makes noise like that it is like they are parodying their own voice. It’s so boring, all you do then is wait for high notes because they are like an instrument and not communicating.

Turandot is for singers what Cape Horn is for sailors: don’t try it if you can’t perform expertly in the heaviest weather. What a shipwreck.

I've listened to a lot of different Turandots. Sutherland and Nillson remain my favourites because of what they brought to the role. Sutherland bought a femninty to the role that I haven't heard before. Nilsson brought that steeliness which is uniquely hers , but both of them brought the full power of their voices which turandot requires. They had exquisite phrasing especially Sutherland who brought her Bel Canto technique and Nilsson brought the Isolde voice which Puccini wanted. Bottom line is both Sutherland and Nilsson were dramatic sopranos. Sutherland being a dramatic coloratura and Nilsson a dramatic Wagnerian. Netrebko seems to think she's a dramatic but she's not, her voice lacks the heft and power required for the roles she's currently attempting to sing. That husband of hers can barely sing in tune. Opera is well and truly dead

Disgrace. Eyvazov should not be invited to any major opera house. Unfortunately, he became the husband of a great star. And Netrebko? She was quite good in lyrical roles (even if her coloratura was not so strong, in comparison with other famous sopranos in the lyrical repertoire). But as Turandot or Aida, she is just an average provincial soprano.

Why the emphasis with Russian spectacle? Their bad quality does not relate with the nationality. Russia has given us no few astonishing singers. The corruption of today’s opera spectacle comes from western opera houses, disc houses and mostly western singing school.

Vulgar and campy is nothing new with the Netrebkos. It is what they know to peddle best. Since their appeal to the lowest common denominator knows no bottom, it is for this reason that they can (and do) get away with whatever artistic pulchritude they throw in the direction of audiences. Audiences will lap it all up, guaranteed. It is the same with Bocelli. In fact, a home video circulated last week of Bocelli as accompanist on the piano for, you guessed it, the Netrebkos. How do you spell c-h-e-e-s-e? That said, I don’t see a way for this art form to survive. On the one hand, there is this video as testament of something gone awry. On the other, no one can any longer compose in a “natural”, organic manner. These two problems have collided halfway and this is where we are.

I think it is her husband who is drstroying her voice… she started singing worse after they married. I have heard several interviews of Eyvazov and I guess they have a patriarchal type of family - he says she never makes him feel like she is the boss and he is like always the leader there… But i think they both’d be better singing separately, everyone in their league, that would benefit both of them, us and opera

When you realise that after the "VIIIIIIINCEEEEEEEEEEHHHROOOOOOOOOOOGGG!!" (not Vincerò) the claps were just a mere operatic formalism.

I just heard Yusif sing this role. There were nice moments but overall I didn't hear a voice that is suited to the role. Not hoarse or raspy; rather, foggy and just plain low on volume throughout, bless his heart. At first I thought it was acoustics but every other singer could be heard clearly over the rich orchestration. He sounds better here. :/

If I want seven real Turandots other than Bianca Scacciati, Gina Cigna, Christel Goltz, Gladys Kuchta, Birgit Nilsson, Ingrid Bjoner, and Gwyneth Jones, complete with smoky chest tones, vocal endurance, and blazing top notes galore, I would rather go with Erna Schlüter, Roszi Delly, Gertrude Grob-Prandl, Liane Synek, Ludmila Dvorakova, Nadezda Kniplova, and Ghena Dimitrova.

Turandot es un papel muy, muy exigente en todos los sentidos, siempre se ha considerado el rol, para una soprano madura , por la complejidad que significa el personaje pucciniano. A mi Netrebko me parece una buena cantante, diva no lo es. Y, en este rol no da la talla, ya se ha visto en otros performance de esta misma ópera que no domina el papel y que está lejos vocalmente delo que ese papel requiere. Pero podría seguir cantando Donizetti, Bellini que se le va bien, sin ser belcantista. En cuanto a su marido….eso ya…ni hablar…

Her singing got worse, it is not comfortable to hear at all sometimes, like she has something stuck in her throat to spit out when singing low notes. I could never imagine she was singing this role. Wonder she was with the help of the magical microphone.

Painful...but not as painful as the Berlin Tosca. Unfortunately we live in an era of anybody sing everything.

There's a way of saying in Italian when referring to a wrong technique where the sound is pushed back in the throat rather than correctly in the mask: "cantare alla Russa". Netrebko is the perfect example, what would actually be a nice voice ruined by the wrong singing technique

How could people let this happen? How did people stay in their seats instead of nunning for their lives? HOW? WHY? HOW?

I don't necessarily take pleasure in the misfortune of others, but in the case of fascist friend Netrebko, any bad news is fine with me. The woman is not responsible for the downfall of opera singing, but she is a good example of how broken the star system is that pushes such voices up to mega-events, including Kaufmann, Damrau and Garanca. They sing incorrectly, sometimes in the wrong fach and turn opera into nothing more than a vulgar mishmash for an audience that celebrates itself.

Literally for a second I felt relieved and really enjoyed listening to the gypsy king but then they fixed the microphone issue and it became a torture. What is he wearing btw? Where do they take these people from? They have absolutely no sense of taste, even when it comes to clothing, let alone the "singing". Haven't they heard about white-tie or smoking suit? Which was exactly the reason when I booked my tickets I did not go for Anna Netrebko. It was not her cup of tea. She performed the famous Aria In Questa Reggia like a stage concert with little appreciation of the majesty of Turandot. I booked tickets for Elena Pankratova. She is a totally different kettle on of fish. She played her role like a dancer. Her singing was right on top and every movement well researched and practised. Her make up was authentic and excellent. Anna Netrebko looked like a dark skin Indian woman, definitely not a Chinese princess. Something so simple gives away how little she prepared fur her role. How can you measure a voice's real power and amplitude with mikes?! But vulgarity can indeed be easily be measured! Shame!

Dreadful. Netrebko doesn't have the dramatic soprano voice to sing roles like Turandot. She's basically just shouting and squalling like a cat. Turandot should be sung by a big voiced soprano. The best Turandot's were Nilsson, Dimitrova, and Marton.
