Hey You lol I like your RU-vid name 😂 I think you should try getting a personal tutor or do conversation exchange with a native speaker. As an African-American I always had a love for the language ever since I was young going to the bodegas in my neighborhood escuchando a la salsa/bachata/o merengue en la tiendas. See I can write in Spanglish which is a start but I only took Spanish in high school which I too passed and also joined the Spanish club at my school where I learned just the tip of the iceberg when it came to Latin culture as a whole. Now I’m 29 and have a better grasp on the language due to interactions with native speakers. Even my dating life consists of learning lol, didn’t learn too much from my boyfriend from 🇵🇷 cause he didn’t speak it much but I learned how to bachata and gained a new library of Latin music which helped me substantially gain the Spanish lengua 👅. I had a mentor from 🇨🇴 who taught me salsa and I never looked back lol and now mi novio es mexicano🇲🇽 y brasileño🇧🇷 and the food that he cooks for me.....🤤😋🤤 omg forget about it lol. I also talk more with him more than I did in the past because I actually hired a tutor who was also from Colombia. I learned a little more vocab but the important thing was that I gain more self confidence to speak the language which led me from Philadelphia living with family and friends to Southern California living with Mexicans and Guatemalans 🇬🇹. I currently am picking up a lot of music and vocab from the people of 🇨🇺 since I am learning Casino y Rueda de Casino which is basically salsa cubana and hands down my favorite version of salsa I’ve learned to date 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾. Anyhow as for speaking Spanish It’s hard don’t get me wrong but if you stick with it and be consistent with speaking even if it’s just to yourself in the mirror or in the car it doesn’t matter you’re speaking the language. Once you get over the fear it gets easier and it gets fun. I love going into businesses owned by native speakers of Spanish and surprising them with the knowledge o have acquired simply by immersion and just shear passion, now my Spanish is nowhere near perfect of fluent however the people appreciate my desire to keep learning and talking with them and taking constructive criticism. It can bruise the ego a bit but that’s the learning process. When you have a chance try conversation exchange.com you can literally exchange convo with people of your target all of the world. And because you speak English there will be an endless supply of people who want to talk with you. You can video chat or just WhatsApp but nonetheless you’re learning. Another avenue I would suggest is italki which is a great platform to get one on one training with a personal tutor for reasonable prices. I hope reading my mini book 📖 lol encourages you to keep hope alive and get back in there, the Spanish speaking world needs you and welcomes you, if I can do it, having no family that speaks Spanish of of Latin descent then so can you, BUENA SUERTE 😉 👍🏾!

Viviana Castillo I wish more bilingual people on this country were encouraged to embrace their ability rather than to hide what they know. @VanessaNicoleMakeup
@VanessaNicoleMakeup 4 года назад
Cindy Sinclair I feel like part of me thinking my English sucks is due to the fact that since it isn’t my first language I’ll never feel like I’m perfect at it. Even if I don’t have an accent and can communicate fluently. Long story short, I was born in NY but due to family issues had to move to my parents home country a month after being born and we would only come to the US for vacations. When I was 8 we decided to move back to the US permanently, that’s when I learned how to speak English. ESL programs sucked at the schools I went to, so I taught myself a lot of things by watching tv, reading books and dictionaries. Due to having such an extreme focus on being able to communicate properly in English, my Spanish suffered a lot. My Spanish is worse than my English which is a little embarrassing.
@cindys2995
@cindys2995 4 года назад
@@VanessaNicoleMakeup Wow! That is such a common occurrence with bilingual students. I have studied Spanish for sooooo many years and I'm also from NY. Spanish is/was everywhere. Many of my friends were PR/DR and we used to talk and I'd listen to their families. I wish I kept with it when i was younger. Now I have dedicated this passed year to studying. I feel so behind but we have to keep going, right?

Honestly, I appreciate this video because Spanish is kind of my second language/first language? It's hard. I grew up in a Spanish speaking household but it was hard keeping up with it while growing up here in the U.S. I struggle a lot with certain words, or phrases, and yes, I do in fact get made fun of for my accent and I cannot roll my Rs like a "true Mexican". Your neighbors Spaniards aren't Latinos but they still speak Spanish, people who grew up in US aren't Latinos..
@imanabd1360
@imanabd1360 4 года назад
@@nickk.689 Well wait.. Basically what makes Latin America "Latino" is the influence of the Spanish element innit? (Spanish is a language of Latin origin) Especially when it comes to the language and the ethnicity (I don't like the word "race") 🤔. After all, The whole American continent and the Carribean islands were colonized by Europeans (whether if they were Spaniards, Anglo-saxons...). The people who lived there before these colonisations were ONLY their native ancestors (like the Maya people, Diné people, Taínos...). So many of them were unfortunately killed and the lands were colonised by these Europeans who also brought slaves from Africa there. It makes the Latino people who they are today. I'm sorry for reminding you of this bitter historical chapter but it is still truth and your comment made me explain it so. And by the way, people who live in the US can still be Latino as long as their parents or grandparents are.... They can be both American and Latino and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm not a historian nor a sociologist after all but I find this quite logical.

My cousin and I were on a guided trip through Costa Rica and admittedly we felt like the only Latinxs in the group. I'm more the booksmart AP Spanish person and he was the mildly broken but understandable Spanish conversationalist, but admittedly it's not something either of us had practiced in a long time. We broke from the tour group one night and went to a fancy steakhouse dinner and did our best speaking only in Spanish the whole meal, to each other and the wait staff. We got through it and it felt really good. I wish I had more opportunities to speak in Spanish with friends or at work (and I definitely do not know any calculus in Spanish) but this video definitely resonated with me. Great job!

You mean accents? There are not "Spanish dialects"! Just different accents.
@rosathescout3531
@rosathescout3531 4 года назад
@@MsJanetWood On the contrary, there are I know many of my Spanish professors from college who would respectfully disagree with this claim Yes there are accents, and here's a link to what I'm referring to as dialects www.fluentu.com/blog/spanish/spanish-dialects/
@robertdaly9162
@robertdaly9162 4 года назад
@@MsJanetWood Accent refers to pronunciation. Dialect refers not only to pronunciation but also to the many other differences, such as using different vocabulary, conjugating verbs differently (ocupando vos, por ejemplo), and grammar. Yo por ejemplo aprendí y hablo castellano chileno y se diferencia de otros dialectos en todos esos aspectos. Some countries even have more than one dialect of Spanish!

Speaking in different dialects or accents might not be a good idea especially for Maya or Eli possibly even Curly who don't have strong accents themselves. Its similar to trying to learn Portuguese when you don't fully know Spanish. It will affect their own accents and is probably the reason why Maya hasn't developed a Mexican dialect because she's around all the other dialects. I'm mex. too and my own Spanish is about the same as Maya's and binge watching Pero Like and other videos especially Gadiel's videos have affected my own Spanish. I've caught myself change up my inflections, slur and drop letters or words. It's helped but has also harmed my own speech.

lots of people commenting in spanish about how living in america seems to 'damage' the spanish of someone. we met a black lady doctor who was also from southern california who moved to switzerland after highschool and never went back, and she was telling us how she was having trouble remembering words in english because in zurich they speak german in daily life. like any skill, you get rusty if you dont use it. just because southern california is full of spanish speakers doesnt mean we get to practice it daily. its really not a surprise if you think about it just a little 🙄

Growing up with both Spanish and English, I realized that English is a hard language to learn (what with all the grammar and spelling), but it's just like any other language! It's possible to learn a new language if you put in the effort! I speak both languages fluently, but I'd love to learn Japanese or German! Don't discriminate: Respect!

Girls look at him as the most gorgeous man on pero like, but there's two problems or flaws (mostly problems), On the date night cook off, his burger spewed with pink liquid coming out of the burger when he cut it. As soon as I saw it come out, it was looking raw on the inside but done on the outside. I've been seeing the comments on that video that he can't cook for crap but hey don't count him out yet, he has a lot of time to improve cooking and speaking spanish. Ivan, you can talk a lot of crap about Eli's Spanish, but he'll improve over time and he will prove the doubters wrong. Just like Maya. I'm rooting for you two to get better at Spanish!! Your two are without a doubt the funniest people on pero like. Love y'all.
