Andy reviews and compares the new Plastic Prussian Infantry for the Franco-Prussian War 1870-71 from Perry Miniatures
These boxes contain 39 miniatures at 28mm scale with a skirmishing and advancing sprue plus command sprue. There are two box sets advancing and skirmishing which come with different combinations of the infantry sprues

A short and fascinating period I play in 15mm metal...Splendid figures here, nice diversity of poses!

I used to have lots of 15mm for they died for glory but I got rid of them years ago, friekorp 15s and outpost minis (not sure either are still going tbh)

3:27 The Perry bases (well, all bases, really) can always come in handy for scratchbuilding and kitbashing projects. Big flat slabs of good quality modelling plastic turn into 6mm and 15mm building frames, for ex.

Agreed I never throw them. I’ll probably use them for napoleonics when I finally do that period as the more tightly packed effect would be good

Excellent review . The sculpture is splendid and very detailed . I was already doing some reaseaches about the battle of Bainzelles for a future project and this Perry miniatures look the most accurate for it . Glad to discover your channel . Subscribed .

Wonderful review --and sadly they are significantly larger than the old Foundry line of which I have a zillion,. .. but for those that are just starting out. its great.. I might use some for skirmishers

Just discovered your channel a few days ago. Love the Franco-Prussian War stuff and a great interview with Michael Perry. What rules are you planning to use for the conflict and how many figures a side?

Hi thanks for watching. I’ll probably use black powder or they died for glory for larger games though neither is perfect. For smaller games muskets and tomohawks or rebels and patriots would suit I think

@@WeightofFire If someone came up with a perfect set of black powder rules the universe would probably collapse. :)

I assume the Perrys are going to produce some French in plastic as well?

Great video ! I m thinking between two boxes , can you please tell if skirmish box has some advancing minis in it ? Thank you

Hi, according to my online research, I understand there are 2 advancing sprues in the skirmish set. The skirmish sprue shows 2 kneeling poses, 2 advancing poses and 1 "walking" pose. Not sure about the sprues in the advancing set though..

Another reviewer mentioned they required a fair bit of cleaning with mould lines running across the faces. Did you encounter this as well? If that is the case i'd rather wait for the metals.
@WeightofFire
@WeightofFire 3 года назад
Not on the sprues I’ve opened so far. A little on trousers etc as expected

@@WeightofFire That's excellent, Thank You. Just placed an order. Absolutely fantastic that Michael started working on this. Thought the range at Foundry would be the last time. Luckily not! Subscribed and looking forward to more reviews:)

Interesting. Do you have any miniatures from the Eagles of Empire ranges for the FPW to compare them with?
@WeightofFire
@WeightofFire 3 года назад
I don’t I’m afraid. I found their miniatures didn’t really have the look I wanted

So is this meant to match with the releases of the franco prussian war history series. Just read a book on this war. Seems like 28 mm scale robs the French of their one advantage of better 200+ yard marksmanship.
@WeightofFire
@WeightofFire 3 года назад
@brad P yes the scale does mean weaponry ranges are affected from a game mechanics point of view. Tbh the curse of all 28mm gaming. I think any link with history channel releases is coincidence but it is 150 years so maybe not such a coincidence

@@WeightofFire the youtube channel running the series on the war is called glory and defeat. Same people who did the world war 1 and 2 each week series.

Yes I am a backer of it, it’s very good.

Just received the box and have to say I am disappointed with the amount of clean-up required. The mould lines across the faces and greatcoat/blanket roll were tedious. And attaching the flag is going to be overly fiddly as the colours have to be attached first and then fitting the finial with streamers on top of that. Considering to use metal pikes from north star instead.
@WeightofFire
@WeightofFire 2 года назад
I don’t think the mould lines are too bad and the streamers will just glue on. Fair point about a metal pole though
