I visited the ruins in December 1968. I was a young man then, but I have never forgotten my visit there; I somehow felt the history when I walked among the ruins. I camped with my colleagues out on the plain below Persepolis, our tents had frost on them in the morning. I'm pretty sure we would not be allowed to camp in the same place nowadays. I had come from the south, via Isfahan and then Shiraz - wow, those ancient cities! The two weeks I spent in Iran has stayed in my head through all these years, maybe because it was Winter and we were often very cold. We drove up to Terrain and then north-west and into Turkey and on up to the Black Sea.

Man u came Iran when my country was a free land. nowadays no one can go there and camp in Persepolis bcs of radical Islamic opinions of our self called supreme and his followers

@@alimatoori177 Hi Ali, I loved it there. Throughout my journey, people were kind and helpful. I missed an opportunity to go beyond Tehran and look out onto the Caspian Sea. Maybe one day the smile will come to the 'face' of Iran.

As far as the cold in Persepolis, it was common practice for ancient kings to have a summer and winter palace. There were two Persian palaces Persepolis and the one in Susa both built by Darius The Great. In Susa it was unbearable in the summer and in Persepolis as you say it was cold, so it is likely that Persepolis was a summer palace and Susa was a winter one.

The visit to Persepolis was a genuine highlight of the trip to Iran. The scale of the buildings gave strong a indication to how magnificent the city must have looked. The ornate stone carvings were striking. Really something worth seeing.

ty for the video and the great quality. but i get alot of weird comments from american young men ignoring any fact from that era! it seem that americans never read and learn about ancient middle east in school, they belive everything started at ancient greece ( which it self developed after conquest of persia , what became golden age of greece was the end of golden age of persia) im sure these does make seens if western society start to tell truths about other nations history.
@GORDONLAWRENCEVIDEOS
@GORDONLAWRENCEVIDEOS 5 лет назад
Thanks for your comments. Yes it is a fascinating period of history and Persepolis is just one of the very interesting historical sites I had the pleasure of visiting. I know what you say about Americans and it's not just Iran/Persia they are ignorant about. Most have never traveled overseas and many don't even know all that much about their own country - geographically at least. I have met some very kind and helpful Americans but there are some things about the USA which rather scare me. Gun laws for instance. I come from New Zealand and found people in Iran very friendly and interested in my country. Most had some ideas about it. Visa on Arrival was good but having been there I would now have to apply for a full visa to even transit through a USA airport.
@KeyhaneBishomar
@KeyhaneBishomar 5 лет назад
@@GORDONLAWRENCEVIDEOS yes thats right, im glad you enjoyed your travel, the western media really focus on the journey of the human civilisation that connect director to modern USA to not much further than that journey , in Iran we studiedie entire recorded history from the homosopian to the first of American middle eastern, african and indian civilization to modern american history and world war 1 and 2 in quite in details not caring about whos was bad or good towards our country, everything is told how it been studied or told. But im sure one day we all feel as one nation. Everyone will enjoy study the whole history of every piece of it just like you enjoy the a sweet smoothie .
@KeyhaneBishomar
@KeyhaneBishomar 5 лет назад
@batonbeauty very happy to hear you! i hope you visit Iran and Iraq one day! i belive that the history of an ancient superpower civilzation is more connected to the later superpower civilizations, so just becouse america is the superpower of modern world every american should know about the persian empire becouse i see things by comparing ancient Persia and moder USA ,and i think american goverment and people will miss alot, both is succes and failature of your civilization. i will say Rome went a different way than Persia and USA, they had not united a nation, like Cyrus and Washington did.
@0riginalrws
@0riginalrws 4 года назад
I’m British. 25 years old. I think what you are saying about Americans applies with many British too, so many are interested in Ancient Greece, and I am one of them! But I recognise that Ancient Persia is just as interesting! I think it maybe be as there is so much written about Ancient Greece. For example, I bought a book on Alexander and it was 300+ pages, I bought a book on Cyrus, and it was less than 50 pages! But I do agree, Persian history is incredible! When you compare Cyrus to Alexander, it is tricky to choose who is a better general! But I get the impression not many people know about Cyrus.
@yehoshuafriedman4687
@yehoshuafriedman4687 3 года назад
Well one thing to keep in mind is that much of our knowledge of the Persians come from Greek writers such as Herodotus writing about Persia, the Persians didn't write much about themselves. In fact much of our information on Cyrus comes from a single cylinder with writing on it. I happen to be American myself but I am also a history nerd so that probably excludes me from your statement, but I will say, most of our history books barely even mention Persia, but much of that probably has to do with what I said above.
