Iranians. One of the oldest and most respectable nations in human history no matter if we call them Persians or Medes or with any other name. Respect from Greece.

It is a matter- Iranian and persian are not synonyms. Persians are a ethnic group that make up around 50% of Iran’s population and there are also Persians that are from Central Asia in countries like Tajikistan and Afghanistan (Tajiks). Kurds, Balochs, Azeris, Lors and Turkmens are all from Iran and Iranian, but they don’t belong to the Persian ethnic group. Therefore you can’t say that it doesn’t matter if we call them Persians or Iranians.
@Bazinga3972
@Bazinga3972 5 лет назад
Admiralcurtis666 Not only the persians, every Iranian tribe used to refer as „Iran to their homeland, including Balochs, Kurds and Pashtuns who are not from modern day Iran. That’s also why I already said that persian and Iranian are not synonyms. Persians are one of several other Iranian tribes and except of that not every Persian is native to Iran as i already said.

As an ethnic iranian, I am not sure which empire I consider the most fascinating, but the stories of Cyrus(or Koroush as we call him) are without a doubt what I like the most and what makes me most proud of my persian heritage. The fact that this ruler respected religious freedom, banned slavery, freed the jews of babylon, gave certain rights to women and nature in an era where these philosofies barely existed, gives me a little glimpse of hope in an age where the arab muslim culture is tearing our nation apart. May our people be enlightened of our potencial and strive to return our ancient principals. Thanks for a great video

As a non-Iranian,I consider the Sassanid era the most magnificent.An empire powerful enough to keep in line Rome(even threatened it with destruction) and the Eurasian nomads,extent it's sphere of influence in the Arabian peninsula and leaving a invisible legacy in western Asia.While the empire founded by Cyrus marks the high point of Iranian domination,the Sassanids were by far more efficient in matters of administration and warfare.The Persians under the Acheamenids were beaten by the Greek city-states,the Sassanids on the other hand crushed numerous Roman armies.

Islamic culture and society peaked in the 14 century. Now everywhere it is present it unfortunately stifles the societal, economical and cultural progress of the nation. It is a shame to see the homes of once great civilisations in North Africa, Egypt, the Levant and Iran so backward by todays standards.

Parthians are the Iranian with moustache and horse riding skills, they were semi nomadic. They are the ones who preserved the real Iranian identity and kept their soul. I’m saying that because all Iranian people including Persians and Medes were all Nomadic once before they move to today Iran. They were all professional horse riders and archers with their magnificent long persian moustache living in Central Asia ans Eastern Europe steppes but when Persians and Medes came to the Iranian plateau they started establishing cities. They could live and farm without the fear of long cold winters. Therefore they had to adopt a new lifestyle that matches to this new life soon they realized there are other people living around so they adopted the Aramic culture from Elamites, Assyrians and Babylonians. So from all three ancient Iranian empires Parthians were the closest ones to the real Iranian identity however in Sassanid era lots of Iranian elements was brought back and it looked more Iranian in compare to Achaemenid Empire.

It's great to see a video like this because all too often Persia is lumped together as part of "Islamic history", much to the annoyance of any Iranian historian or archaeologist. I personally find the Sassanian empire most fascinating because of its influence within the Middle East and into Europe and Asia. Btw your videos are well-researched but I never realized you do the excellent illustrations as well. Very accurate I must say
@agniroyai1230
@agniroyai1230 6 лет назад
The Unknown oh I'm not saying I'm not interested in Muslim Persia. The problem is that Iran/Persia is its own civilization. There isn't and wasn't such a thing as "Islamic civilization". As one Iranian historian put it "why do we never speak of European history as Christian civilization". See what I mean?
@QM571
@QM571 6 лет назад
Agni Royai That's not a fair assessment, throughout history most Muslim majority countries have been very inter-connected to a degree far greater than has ever been seen with people of other religious faiths that expanded to such a large size. The only other faith that really compares is Judaism. Islamic civilisation was a thing, you often had numerous completely different ethnic groups help each other out based purely on religion alone, e.g the Ghaznavids of Khorasan had Persians, Pashtuns, Turks, Punjabis and Arabs fight under their banner, and even though they acted independently, they still pledged allegiance to Caliphate.
@agniroyai1230
@agniroyai1230 6 лет назад
dsr 478 That I would classify more as Middle Eastern history than Islamic. The whole notion of a Muslim/Islamic world comes not from the ummah concept but as an opposite to medieval Christendom. What we could call Islamic civilisation was very much centered in the Middle East while stretching into North Africa and Spain. The Muslim-majority countries of Asia usually had little or nothing to do with the affairs of the Middle East (Mughal India and parts of Central Asia maybe more so than others) and were not connected to the caliphate. If you're referring to the Caliphate specifically, that could justify usage of the term. In most cases it's simply a lazy misnomer, just as westerners tend to identify modern Muslims by religion instead of ethnic origin. The existence of the caliphate doesn't negate my original point that the study of a civilisation's history is not the study of religious history. And as I said, this is coming from Middle Eastern archaeologists and historians, not just from me
@QM571
@QM571 6 лет назад
Agni Royai Yeah that's kinda what I meant. Countries like Indonesia and Malaysia cannot really be classified as part of this Islamic civilisation that we are speaking of. I would consider Islamic civilisation to be the Middle East along with all the Arab nations in Africa as well as Central Asia, Spain, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Most of the people in this general area belong to the same race (caucosoids) and look fairly similar (many of them are brown, bearded and wear baggy clothes). You could add India and Somalia/Ethiopia but that's a bit of a reach in my eyes.

I am a Chinese language speaker, though i am not native. In my efforts to learn more about the Chinese language, I learned that much of the Chinese language was influenced by Sogdian, which is a Iranian language. From Wikipedia: "During Tang China (ca. 7th century CE), the Silk Road's lingua franca in Central Asia was Sogdian. along which it amassed a rich vocabulary by loanwords." I know the sentence is a little non-grammatical, but there you go. Anyway, I have hoped to find a source of loanwords and influences from Sogdian in Chinese ever since. I just thought it was interesting to see the influene.
@Potatoman1578

Brandon Redmond well it's not really surprising when you think that it was the Sogdians who worked as tge middlemen in the Silk route and if I remember correctly it was a Sogdian scholar who translated the Buddhist manuscripts into Chinese and hence helped to spread that religion in Far East Asia.

For me as an iranian, the most fascinating period is the Parthian empire, because it was the longest Iranian dynasty and most of the Iranian cultural elements as well as Iranian textile industry, silk road (after they signed a mutual agreement with with Chinese government to secure and build roads for trade) started since that period also the generation of the stories behind the epic of shahnameh was mostly on that period. They along the median were the only Iranian dynasties which never conquered by invaders.

Im not Iranian but I guess If I would be I would considered Achaemenid Empire and Sassanid dynasties as my favorite.That is because Achaemenid Empire is surely the most famous,most classical and also achieved biggest territorial extend.Sassanids on their own part very very strong militarily.One of few powers able to fight with the Romans on equal terms and repeatedly dealing them humiliating defeats.In the art of siecraft they were as good as Romans,maybe even little better.In cavalry they were best in the world and they almost succeded even in reinstaling Persian borders in limits that Achaemenid Empire once had although only for a short time.Arcasid dynasty on the other hand seems rather week to me.Parthian state was decentralized and members of royal family constantly dammaging the realm with infinitive struggle for power.It also had strong multicultural character,well this is true also for Achaemenids,but in Partian case this multiculturalism was dominating perhaps too much over national core which was in Iranian people and culture.Sassanids on the other hand were opposites of Arcasids in this.They were almost ultranationalistic and far less tolerant to other cultures seeing Iranians as those best and giving stong emphasis on Iranian aspects of their Empire and history of these people.
@dara6179
@dara6179 6 лет назад
Parthian: 247BC to 224 AD= 471years, Sassanid: 651AD to 224 AD= 427 years, parthian is 44 years longer almost half a century,
@dara6179
@dara6179 6 лет назад
I also should mention that, during the Sassanian empire they tried to eliminate the Parthian elements from Iran's history even they changed the calendar to decrease Parthian's ruling years. The biggest difference between Sassanid/Achaemanids empires and Arascidis is they ruled by a central government and Parthians ruled by a kind of federative government. Each of these types has its own pros and cons, but history showed that when the central power is not meddling too much into everything a cultural progression will happen. As an example when Sassanids took the full support of Zoroastrianism, Mazdaki and Manavi sects are emerged as a kinda of reaction to the suppression, on the other hand the religious tolerance of Parthians resulted into the development of Zoroastrianism and even the first Avesta has been written during that era of tolerance. If we just consider the military victories and territory of each periods (even by knowing that one of the most decisive defeats o roman empire happened during the Parthian era), I also believe Sassanian/Achaemanid empire can be more fascinating but culturally I think partisans were more successful
@chapman5578

@@edrickhuge4637 oh shut the fuck up with your ethnic division *lies.* There were great numbers of Circassians, Mazandaranis and Georgians in the royal families, would you want to talk about that too? Of course not, because only Azaris and Kurds seem to be foolish enough to fall into the separatist Fab. Also, you seem to forget that the Safavids were an *Iranian Empire* and were the torchbearers of *Persian culture and arts.* Not "Kurdish" nor "Tork" / "Azari" but the sophisticated Persians. Btw I'm not a Persian myself, so your usual insults against the peaceful, poetic and charming Persians (of Fars region) won't affect me. Fuck off, will you?

Thanks for making this documentary. I am an Iranian and thank you very much for explaining our history and culture to others. Cyrus the Great was a king of kings who did so many great things in his speeches that they seem legendary. In the meantime, there were and are countries that want to violate this issue. The Arabs and Muslims, and especially the Turks, respectfully insist on denying the existence of Cyrus the Great if he were more real than real. It was never fully stated how Cyrus the Great died. But the Greek writer Herodotus said for political reasons that he was killed in the war, which is completely wrong and has been repeatedly violated in recent research. We, the original Iranians, thank all those who value our history. Long live Cyrus

Why is Iran so good to slaves or not having slaves
@SniperiusForever
@SniperiusForever 6 лет назад
Jay Williams Mainly because they were moving to the feudal/cast system I suppose. It probably was partially caused by Persia's state religion Zoroastrianism. Rome too eventually abandoned slavery and established a somewhat permeable feudal society.

HI Jay I am a Iranian living in America I always loved the achamanid Persians a lot. I think the reason why the Persians are not having slavery is because of King Cyrus's charter of human rights. Also for you to know that Persians are realated to a ancient noble tribe know as being noble so maybe it has also something to do with Iranian prehistory.
