Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman joins 'Squawk Box' to discuss the rise of antisemitism on college campuses in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war, the lack of a clear strategy from university leaders, and more.
As a black man, I'm offended by his references to American racism to defend the behavior of Israel. A child is being killed in Palestine every 10 minutes. Stop this.
That’s Harvard where double standards rein supreme. What a 💩institution! They wouldn’t let Condy Rice speak?! Who intellectually could run circles around 90% of the Harvard faculty. Shameful! The WOKE mob shouts down anyone who strays from the plantation of group think. Ackman has a valid point, but he’s about 15 years late to the party. It looks like the WOKE mob has racist antisemitic tendencies too!!! The very “ideologies” the WOKE faculty are trying to banish under the guise of “hate” speech. I love when the WOKE mob run out of groups to eat and then they turn on themselves. Lord of The Flies!!! How ironic!!!
@@roykama3489I sense a fan boi. You are making more enemies than friends, myself among them. I wish no harm on anyone but I am developing a seething hatred for the actions and excuses of certain types. Good luck with that, chosen one!
Karma… “Neri Oxman, an architect and the wife of billionaire investor Bill Ackman, has apologized for instances of plagiarism in her 2010 dissertation. A Business Insider article Thursday said she didn’t use quotation marks when quoting another work in several instances and paraphrased from a book without a citation” WS J
You are overreacting. This is called a “verbal tic” or “verbal filler/crutch” and is quite common. Happens when people are agitated or very emotional, for some instance.
@@tvm73827another fearless defender. Do you want a job from old bill or just some street credit. Only a Jew can defend what the Jews are doing right now. May you reap what you sow.
Right...because no one criticizes Israel on campuses, ever... Do you understand the difference between freely voicing your opinion vs. calling for the extermination of a country? Why is it that you people always have such an obsession with that specific country, and ONLY with that country?
"free palestine is OK" but not some weird land to sea phrase? free speech or not bro, you seriously get offended by that? i cant believe that a billionaire would be offended by some land to sea line. hey bill, reach down your pants and grab your testicles. remember you are a grown up man,
Love how you people have fired professors over Halloween costumes but now you want the freedom the call for genocide against Jews and than you cry as a baby if people dont want to hire you
he didn't say what is right or wrong. Just that it should be normal to open to both sides. I guess you are one of the people who see other opinions as an attack
@Roan-xj1mg He did say. It's OK to rip DEI, but Judaism is off limits. You can't have it both ways. If he wants to go off on DEI and affirmative action, fine. But then I should be able to rip his religion.
Talk about hypocrisy. These guys are more worried about what is happening in colleges instead of covering the actual horrific conflict. The whole point about free speech is that you have to accept opinions you might hate but you have to allow them to be expressed even if they right or wrong in your view.
And you're sure you can accept any speech? Yes free speech does include things that we don't agree upon. But a threat is not suppose to be taken lightly. A threat to anyone!!! If the question was asked on genocide against other minority, or towards you, will you do nothing??
Harvard students have cancelled people over Halloween costumes or misgendering but now they want freedom of speech and now they are against cancel culture
this free speach issue is a bit of a problem for mr ackman, you see it's only "his" free speach that really matter's he's also a complete hypocrite when it comes to copying other written work's as his wife is indeed well known for Plagiarism... young people can see in real time this man is a serial interfering trouble maker, i think people should scrutinize his & his wife's history just to make sure.
I'm uncomfortable with rich boss men telling us what to think when we are not on the job. There's something fundamentally inequitable in the power balance, since regular people will always be employees and rich people will be employers. How will the regular people's views be heard? I guess 2024 will be the new 1984.
You should read "1984" before making statements like this. "1984" is what ultraleft professors creating on campuses right now ))) Perhaps you also should read Huxley's "Brave New World", to be able to use correct examples. Anyway looks like students at Harvard should pay more attention to education, instead of clashes and riots.
@@ammumeme5789 When there is nothing substantive to answer, manipulation comes into play. Yes my friend?)) I count at least two (changing the subject, Gaslighting), perhaps I missed something, do not answer, Bye))
This interview is hard to watch because Joe never lets people that he disagrees with talk. He cuts them off or talks over them, yet he wants to talk about free speech. This was just for the ratings!
Overpriced institute anyways. You can earn a degree in other western countries for a fraction of the price and get the same jobs. Yes that means you start your life with way less debt or even no debt.
Lol you will not get the same jobs, its all about making connections and leveraging those into the top pay jobs. If you're going to these schools and only going to your classes for the degree then you are doing the wrong thing.
In 2020 when I say “All Lives Matter” I was bullied. I hope in 2024 I can finally say that out loud at my university without being attacked. That’s my New Years wish.
U.S. universities are often recognized for their high degree of academic freedom, especially when compared to institutions in more authoritarian regimes. In the United States, academic freedom is a fundamental principle, enabling scholars to research, teach, and express ideas without fear of institutional censorship or government control. This freedom, essential to the democratic ethos, adheres to rigorous academic standards and fosters intellectual dissent, playing a key role in challenging authoritarian structures and societal norms. Conversely, universities in authoritarian regimes frequently encounter significant restrictions, with academic freedom limited to conform to government policies and ideologies. In the context of fostering inclusivity in America, it's noteworthy to examine the composition of political entities such as the Republican Party. As of [insert date], the party's representation in the U.S. Senate is predominantly Christian (100%), with limited racial (4% non-white) and gender diversity (8% women). This homogeneity could raise concerns about the breadth of perspectives in policy decisions, impacting diverse sectors, including education. Historical analysis shows limited representation of certain groups within the party, for example, only three Jewish Senators - Jacob Javitz, Norm Coleman, and Arlen Specter, the latter switching parties in 2009.
Give me a break...How many BLM activists do you see standing up to defend Israelis? Each "tribe" is going to defend their own. Ackman is speaking as a well respected Harvard graduate and a Jewish man. Hopefully billionaires such as Ackman will stop hiring from racist anti-Semitic schools like Harvard. Oh and by the way, I'm not Jewish.
"Harvard has not been a bastion of free speech" claims the guy who is attempting to subjucate free speech. Mr. Ackman, stick to your job. Politics is not for you.
Positively Orwellian. As Orwell said, "In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defense of the indefensible… Thus political language has to consist largely of euphemism, question-begging and sheer cloudy vagueness…Where there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms…"
If the Chicago Statement principles catch on more widely on campuses, they could help students build skills in free and civil debate that could in turn become a bridge between their university tenures and their future careers. The statement could also serve as a reminder to business leaders about the value of free expression. One leader who could benefit: Bill Ackman-who responded to recent plagiarism allegations against his wife by declaring that he would “unleash hell” against a publication that reported on them. For corporate titans, just as for college students, it takes practice to learn how to speak out without trampling others.
What he’s looking for is the same reason that a priest could call the police on from something you say in a confession. If you threaten to harm someone he’s obligated to help the community by taking you into custody.
Bill certainly didn't mind the rampant antiwhiteism and even worse the relentless anti Christian rhetoric being proliferate on campus, but only speak out when it affects them. It's OK till it happens to you right? Right.
@jetstream3528 Why continue if its their money and the values of the organization they donated don't align with their values anymore. If I wasn't paying taxes, I'd either keep it all, or buy stuff for myself
I think Sarah Aisen summed it up well at 10:50. “It’s not free speech if it’s hate speech”. That principle should apply to all hate speech, not just one group. Ackman should have spoke up a long time ago.
Criticizing Israel is not antisemitic. Criticizing Iran is not Islamaphobic. This guy needs to pack up his double standards and incoherent rant and go home.
“Atrocity is recognized as such by victim and perpetrator alike, by all who learn about it at whatever remove. Atrocity has no excuses, no mitigating argument. Atrocity never balances or rectifies the past. Atrocity merely arms the future for more atrocity. It is self-perpetuating upon itself-a barbarous form of incest. Whoever commits atrocity also commits those future atrocities thus bred.”
This is aloud, this isn’t aloud… meanwhile the older generations had none of the same constraints…. leading by bogus safety measures in every direction.. endowment growinin markets is what they care about
The language “From the river to the sea” is in Israel charter!! what hypocrite. So it is okay when Israel commits genocide but it is not okay when Palestine supporters use the same words as chant for their freedom
I'm telling you he's like the crybaby in the school yard. He's like one of these little Jewish boys crying about how the world's taking advantage of him. - Carl Ichan
the problem with the media is you'll never get a fair opinione when the guest (ackman), interviewer (sorkin), and chairman of cnbc (hoffman) are all jews. anyway, what do you expect from a new channel that hosts creamer (a jew). p.s. bear stearns is fine.
